Tottenham 541, you're having a go at one of the most respected of posters on here. If you'll take my advice (which I doubt) you'll rein your neck in and pack it in now. Canvey Shrimper made comments in pretty much the same way as many have seen it, yet for some reason you're giving him a rough ride. Is it purely the fact that you dislike the island that's making you act in such a ridiculous manner?

Now then shipmates, although my secondary school education was based at Belfairs High (1968-72) and the only qualifications i learnt were for thieving and scamming, one thing i did absorb was that Basil was spelt with a S and not a Z. I presume your education was not at Westcliff or Southend High?.

I wasn't far behind you.
You must be in this photo full of tough kids. You can magnify, but most names and faces are in the wrong place.

OBL and as for nearly 18,000 posts full credit to the guy,but that dont mean jack shoot to anyone, ask tilson and past players that have clocked up over 200 hundred games for the club and been spat out again after with no thanks from the club what so ever.

Complete and utter rubbish.

Defensively all over the place. After his two mistakes last week I just don't think Bilel should have started this week, and it showed with another school boy performance. Gilbert and Hall were terrible, they were out run and out fought from the first to last minute. I just don't get the Corr/Blair show. Substitutions were bizarre, bringing on a left back and the terrible Soares and leaving our strikers on the bench, I just don't get it?

For what it's worth

Morris 5
Clohessy 6
Barker 5
Bilel 3
Gilbert 2
Hall 2
Simpson 4
Grant 6
Timlin 3
Corr 5
Blair 4

Subs

Soares 1
Herd 4
Screech no point in scoring

Well, back to the game... for what it is worth.

I'm not that downhearted, just a bit disappointed we didnt do better. We have a team that barely know each other, and were only really assembled 2 weeks before the season started, so on that basis we are still experimenting with what works and what doesnt! For this team we are not yet where we should have been at the end of pre-season.

The big negative was the decision to just book their no 9 after the nasty 2 footed kick on Moshni, which the ref didnt see as Moshni was blocking his view of what happened, but the lino and 4th official must have seen. It was a straight red, no doubt about it, and he was lucky to stay on the pitch. For me, that was a defining moment in the match, and after that the ref was struggling to keep control.

The other difficulty today was the lack of organisation and focus in the defence, which cost us 2 very soft goals, thought the other one was well worked and deserved. Thought we missed Easton, which surprised me a bit as he had been quite anonymous in the previous games I have seen, but I am starting to think that Easton is in the same category that was there with Maher, you didnt notice him till he wasnt on the pitch!!

To their credit, Morcombe were awful, but not as bad as others in this league. They do know how to play in this league, they were all big and strong, and what they lacked in skill they made up for in exploiting our fairly obvious weaknesses, ie our woeful defending, inability to get the ball back when we gave it away and us not playing the ball on the floor, all of which suited them completely and proved to be our undoing.

Morris 5 - some reasonable saves, but not the best performance I have seen. Could be much worse!
Clohessy 6 - pretty good performance considering - didnt do anything terribly wrong
Mohsni 4.5 - Poor defending for all 3 goals, went wandering too often and kept going for the same ball as the rest of the defence. Has potential, but at what cost?
Barker 6.5 - Somehow the defence isnt working together, but Barker was doing his best to try and pull it into some sort of shape.
Gilbert 5 - Struggled a bit, looked a bit off the pace of their winger
Simpson 5 - not a good performance today, expected better.
Grant 7 - started brightly, good goal (again) but seems to be running out of steam in the second half still. Nonetheless, best performance in the team. MOM
Timlin 5 - looks a useful player, but not in that holding role. Easton is far better at this, and needs to get back in the side asap.
Hall 6 - some lovely touches, but struggled against a big physical side
Corr 6 - decent finish, missed a few chances but somehow just not very effective today.
Sturrock 6 - Cant see why he is getting such a hard time. Not a great performance, but not the worst either. I like the way he plays wil intelligence, which is working well with Granty who also plays an intelligent game. Between them they opened up a lot of space that the rest of the team didnt exploit properly. Worst thing is, he isnt a 20 goal a year striker, he's more an an Emile Heskey type of player, which isnt helped by the accident of birth that made him the son of the manager. Get off his case!

Subs - no point, were all ineffective. Have to say that Herd looked as out of his depth today as he did last season, a good reason why he is currently bench-sitting! Despite the rest of the defence being poor, I dont think it wouold be helped by Herd in the back 4 at the moment.

Not overly disappointed with the result, would have preferred a draw at least, but it isnt a disaster if we can learn from it and do better next time. It is early days still, would be more worried if we are still in this postion in January!

Some brief ratinga for Pringello:

Morris 6 (Meh)

Clohessy 6 (Steady as usual)
Moshni 4 (All over the place, drop him now before he costs us more points)
Barker 7 (If it wasn't for him we could have conceded 5 or 6 today)
Gilbert 5 (Made Duffy look like a cross between Messi and Ronaldo)

Timlin 6 (Decent enough, some good passes and a few decent long range shots)
Simpson 4 (Didn't even notice he was playing til he was subbed, please please Sturrock play him in the middle of the park, his worst game for us by an absolute mile)
Grant 7 (Another great goal but faded towards the end)
Hall 7 (Can't believe some of the stuff i've read on here, thought he was good today, good set pieces and had a number of shots in the first half, a class above Soares)

Blair 4 (Ineffective, slows all our attacks down, cant play Blair and Corr together)
Corr 5 (Same as Blair, extra mark for the goal)

Subs:

Herd 5 (Well off the pace)
Soares 4 (Did he actually touch the ball?)
Spencer 5 (Wasnt on for long, but all he did was over run the ball and then do an embarrasingly poor header which went in completely the wrong direction. All that despite the fact there was nobody anywhere near him)

Would like to see Coughlan come in next week, maybe time to see what Evans can do in between the sticks as well?

Don't normally do ratings but here goes.

Morris 6 Not at fault for goals and did everything ok

Clohessy 6 Our 2nd best crosser of the ball, will come to the our best later
Moshni 5 Wins a lot in the air but positional sense is awful, potential possibly but is 22 already
Barker 7 A class above at the back
Gilbert 5 Outclassed by their winger

Timlin 6 Never really got into the game
Simpson 5 Barely noticed him not a right midfielder and saw little of the ball
Grant 6.5 Pick of midfield but not his best performance
Hall 6 Had no joy against their right back seemed better on other side cutting in on his left foot

Corr 5 Poor, leggy and slow. Is he fit?
Sturrock 6 Thought he was ok, good lay offs and he is our best crosser of the ball shame neither Corr or midfield run beyond front line.

not going to score subs as they were not on long enough.

Ok Morecombe - They were a lot better than their position suggested and knocked the ball around well and broke with pace and accuracy. As others have stated played the target man up top perfectly and had great support and willing runners behind the striker. Also had midfielders who made intelligent runs beyond the front men into space hence why our defence had a difficult afternoon.

To be honest i thought they were the better side and deserved the win and looked dangerous everytime they came forward.

Ok, having slept on it these are my ratings and observations:

Morris - 6, still believe it's time to give Evans a run. If this were Mildenhall or Flavs then they'd be being crucified on here for the number of goals conceded
Clohessy - 6, solid and used far more effectively than at Northampton but the threat was always down the oppo's right hand side
Barker - 7.5, captain played well, but it's obvious there is a communication issue
Mohsni - 4, I'm sorry, but I did say at the beginning of the season that there were going to be problems and the last 2 games have shown exactly this. I really don't get this argument that he needs to keep being played to get him the game experience. If it's costing us then he needs to be dropped back to the bench. Our best pairing this season has been Prosser and Phillips. Prosser had one nightmare game against his former side who he was trying too hard against, time for changes at the back, even if that means moving Barker wide again
Gilbert - 5, all over the place, but down to Mohsni so not too harsh on him
Simpson - 5, two poor performances on the back of a blinder, maybe we're seeing now why he couldn't get in the P'boro side
Timlin - 6.5, did ok, very similar to Easton but not as authoritative
Grant - 7.5, good performance from the POTM and another quality goal, January is looming ever closer
Hall - 7, I thought Hall was pretty good, and it's great to see players having a go, he can put in a decent cross but there were too many balls to him that were far beyond his range to retrieve
Sturrock - 5, that's enough and PS has to stop putting his name down first on the team sheet and look at viable alternatives, though having said that, I disagreed with the booing when he had a shot from range, he's a striker FFS, he's entitled to shoot at goal
Corr - 5, blatantly unfit, won very little

Subs:
Soares for Sturrock - 4, did only bad stuff
Herd for Gilbert - ridiculous substitution, 3-2 down and bring on a defender? Did nothing to show anything to rate
Spencer for Simpson - not on long enough

Officials: Reckon the ref owes us another apology, shockingly poor on the crucial decisions though played the advantage well and called play back when necessary

TBV - 8, good stuff

Well what do we expect from a 4th division Side!!

Here are my ratings:

Morris : 6 - not directly at fault but worrying that he is so quiet and not marshalling the defence - time to give Evans a chance inho
Clohessy: 7 - solid and secure not helped by Simpson or Soares in front of him
Gilbert : 4 - awfull - does not want to tackle and offers little going forward - should have been taken off at half time
Moshni - 5 - tries hard and passionate but not disciplined enouugh at the moment - will become a great player though
Barker - 7 - solid but needs to keep Moshni under control - not vocal enough as captain
Hall - 7 - tried hard and good first touch, needs to improve decision making and get the ball in earlier
Simpson - 5 - like this player but really disappointed in him today - he is not a wide man
Grant - 7 - great first half but lost way in second half due to total crap playing around him
Timlin - 5- looked unfit and offered very little either defensively or attacking - worrying that we have not got antyone better than him in the squad (Milsom all over again)
Corr - 6 - not sharp but a good target man IF we get crosses in - can't remember that many in open play yesterday - needs a partner who goes forward though
Sturrock - 4 - nothing to do with being the Managers son but he is a forward who won't/can't or is unable to score goals. Yes he plays ok with his back to goal but his first thought is always to go back - never to turn and go for goal - needs replacing sooner rather than later - GOALS WIN MATCHES AND HE WON'T SCORE THEM OR MAKE THEM. Positive is that he does work hard and never goes hiding - but sorry - not enough for me

Subs
Herd - 6 - looked ok, long throws a plus and should have been on at ghalf time as Gilbert was so poor
Spencer - 5 - too little time to make any impact
Soares - 1 - a complete waste of air, would this man show any sense of urgency even if his own arse was on fire?!

Sturrock Senior - 4 - wrong selcetion up front, in the middle of midfield and at CB - sub for Gilbert was too late

We have three major problems at the moment:

1) Our strikers look as dangerous as Dale Winton in a brothel. Yes we scored 2 goals but Morecambe were almost as bad as we were defensively! We need a reasonably clinical finisher.
2) Easton is a massive massive loss - only yesterday did I realise what a huge difference he makes to us in front of the back 4.
3) Mohsni - while having huge potential - HAS to be dropped for Coughlan or Phillips now as the communication in the back 4 is shocking and it's costing us big time. He should be taken out of the firing line at least until he has learnt the language.

Herd for Gilbert - ridiculous substitution, 3-2 down and bring on a defender? Did nothing to show anything to rate

Why was this a ridiculous substitution? Gilbert was taken off because Parrish was giving him the absolute run around and the sensible decision was to bring on another left-back to stop the problem. If he'd taken Gilbert off and replaced him with a striker or a midfielder, You'd have Parrish running into free space and it could've ended up even worse for us.

don't think attendance was that bad seeing as there were only about 50 away fans

Morris 5, Let in 3, poor defending doesn't help but he still looked shaky

Clohessy 6, Continues to look a threat while still being good defensively
Barker 6, Out of position for the third, other than that decent I think
Mohsni 4, Can look threatening going forward, but doesn't matter if hes so bad at defending
Gilbert 5, Didn't notice him, which is weird as everyone else says he was dreadful

Hall 7, MotM Tried hard, made good tackles and got into good positions, needs to improve his end ball though
Grant 6, Great goal then suddenly became frustratingly anonymous
Simpson 5, Did nothing today
Timlin 6, Very much like Easton, looked one of our better midfielders today

Corr 6, Got a goal, did little else, needs a player other than Sturrock to reach his potential
Sturrock 4, I'm usually not too harsh on him, but he was poor today and seems to lack confidence right now

SUBS

Herd 4, Did nothing, forgot he existed, his long throw ins don't do anything because he just throws them long and hopes for the best, never aims them at someone and if he does they are so slow its easy to defend
Soares 3, Rubbish player, why not get Spencer earlier instead?
Spencer n/a, Not enough time on to judge

Ref 7, Didn't see the red card incident myself so can't judge, other than that he had a good game

It was a ridiculous substitution because Johnny Herd offers us precisely nothing better than Gilbert, oh hang on.......cancel that, the long throw. Of course, the great saviour of our season last year

Herd was given the run around by loads of players no better than Parrish last year, the midfield were not doing enough yesterday to help Gilbert out when he was obviously in difficulties because of Mohsni's positional errors. IF Gilbert needed to come off, then the sensible option would have been to bring Coughlan on and bring Barker wide. As it was, with us losing at the time, surely the best option would have been to chuck forwards on and use Simpson as defensive cover. I fail to see how losing by more would have been "worse".
