was you even at the game, think you were watching a different game pal, as for paterson he looks the only one that looks as if he actually wants to play up front for the club and do well not some two bob player thats on a short two bob contract that cant be arsed.

I was but it seems you weren't as you haven't spotted the fact Corr played up front with Sturrock and scored. Having said that Corr was poor (very poetical), for a big bloke he doesn't get off the ground. As you seem to have superior knowledge to I as to the value of players contracts I'll genuflect to you for possessing such knowledge.

I think there is a lot of over-reaction on here today - don't get me wrong, I am as disappointed as the rest of you but certainly not despondent after today or last week's defeat at Northampton.

My ratings as follows:

Morris 6 - didn't have a lot to do except pick the ball out of his net 3 times

Clohessy 7 - I thought he was the pick of the back 4 today
Mohsni 5 - I thought he was slightly better than last week, but still needs to work on the tactical side of defending and communication. I think we need Phillips back.
Barker 6 - looks class a lot of the time, but at fault for the 3rd goal
Gilbert 5 - I thought he looked poor both last week and today - Barker back to LB for a while?

Simpson 6 - disappointing today compared to previous performances
Timlin 6 - not bad for a debut, looks a decent enough player
Grant 7.5 - MOM performance (again)
Hall 7 - He looks a better player every week, like Clohessy is now adjusting to the step up in class

Sturrock 6 - has a good touch, just wished he had an eye for goal to match
Corr 6 - Wins a lot in the air but needs to play with players who can feed off his flicks

Subs:

Herd 6 - he can throw the ball a long way......er, that's it
Spencer 6 - ran around a lot
Soares 3 - just awful

We still haven't got the right pair up front - Blair holds the ball up well for midfield runners in a 4-5-1 and Corr will flick the ball on to a "fox in the box" nippy player. Sadly although on current form they're probably the best two strikers we've got, they're not great playing together.

Cheer up people - we're not playing that badly, I think the results will come soon.

are you the sort of bloke that bowls around on canvey with a 1990"s bazil brush clung on the back of his head, not like ive got nothing against canvey guys as alot of me old mates come from canvey ?

total cobbs wallop mate, if you are from canvey i would like to meet you on thursday at the questions and answers evening matew or aint you got the balls ?

A strange quote responding to someone who has just put his honest opinion of todays entertainment(!). I presume you'd like to meet Canvey Shrimper to buy him a beer and thank him for his valued contribution on this site for a considerable time?.

Where was the drive and passion we displayed for 60 mins against Torquay, no ideas or real desire but still should have won if could defended averagely.

Morris 6 - Not much to do, but no saves either, rooted for second goal
Clohessy 6.5 - Probably best defender, did not get forward as previous games until last 15 mins
Mohsni 5.5 - Better than last week but still costs us
Gilbert 4.5 - Shocker, all threat from their right and he cut out nothing
Simpson 5.5 - poor today, disintrested on the right
Timlin 6 - Easton without the presence or command
Grant 7 - Excellent goal, quiet in the second half
Hall 7.5 - Thought our best player, ran all day, trying to unlock defence
Sturrock 5.5 - Needs a break, looked lost apart from first 10 mins of second half after a probable rollicking at half time
Corr 6.5 - Better player than I thought when first signed.

Herd 6 - Correct substitution, why did he not take throw ins on right late in game
Soares 5 - Usual runnuing into blind aleys
Spencer 5 - Not given any time to make an impression

Shocking display with only Grant able to hold his head up.

Gilbert and Hall woeful, were battered by the two blonde Morecambe players Parrish and Duffy. Bilel completely out of his depth against Mullin and little Shuker caused problems all day. Simpson didn't turn up and Timlin looks overweight and disinterested. Corr looks completely unfit and Blair is very good 30 yards away from goal but as soon as he gets to 29 yards out he goes to pieces.

I am sat here dazed at our substitutions today. We need a goal to get it back to 3-3, there's 15 minutes to go, hey lets bring on a left back and the worst player in the squad and leave two goalscorers on the bench.

Absolute crap Mr Sturrock.

Sorry forgot Captain Barker 6 - Powerless to stop the shambles around him.

A woeful performance today for which Sturrock Snr must take most of the flack. A switch to 4-4-2 meant that our major stength ... Simpson, Grant + Holding Midfield Player (Timlin today rather than Easton) .... was sacrificed and Simpson had to take a wide right position which doesn't suit him. If you play two up front then it is clear that Corr + Sturrock is not the right balance so one of them should have started partnered by Spencer or Paterson. Defensively Moshni is so all over the place positionally. "One for the future" he may well be, but at present a slow Coughlan or erratic Prosser (yes I saw the Port Vale game but I also saw the Bristol C game when he was excellent) would be a better bet until Phillips is fit. But ratings:

Morris 5 - Was less active than his opposite number but his lack of height was brutally exposed by Morecambe's second goal. He was going to claim the ball, then changed his mind. A truly Flahavanesque moment.

Clohessy 7 - Did well today
Mohsni 3 - When it's simple - jump and head clear -he's superb but tactically he's so much to learn. Would be 2 were it not for his assist for Corr's goal. Was knackered after 70 mins.
Barker 6 - Sound performance. Blames himself for their winner but I blame our kamikaze midfield .... Simpson and Grant trying to charge down the Shrimps keeper???? Along with two other Southend players??? Schoolboy errors. 4 Southend players stranded up field for their counter attack. Unbelieveable.
Gilbert 4 - Couldn't cope with his winger today.

Simpson 5 - Out of position (wide right) and did not contibute. Knackered/injured towards the end.
Timlin 6 - Tidy performance
Grant 7 - Great first 70 minutes with great goal but lost concentration/fitness/ was knackered towards the end.
Hall 6 - Like him, did some good work but was knackered after 70 mins like too many others
Sturrock 5 - Awful first half - one defender between him and goal and he bottles it. Better second half but as we all know has no goal threat
Corr 5 - Would have been less were it not for his goal. Big bloke does not make the most of it. Was knackered after 70 mins.

Subs:

Herd 6 - Tidy performance
Spencer 4 - Did he anything??
Soares 3 - A player you expect to come good, but hasn't so far.

Sturrock Snr wants us to be the fittest team in the league - there's a hell of a lot of work to be done there. He must look beyond Corr and Sturrock as his first choice strikers.

Now then shipmates, although my secondary school education was based at Belfairs High (1968-72) and the only qualifications i learnt were for thieving and scamming, one thing i did absorb was that Basil was spelt with a S and not a Z. I presume your education was not at Westcliff or Southend High?.
