Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1-1 Woking

Scoring goals is still so difficult for us, and oh, for a Timlin or a Deegan in the middle of our team now. We are a passing team which works when we get behind teams but Woking were having none of our passing game and kicked Southend players at will. Three of theirs booked before half time.

Second half was better and roared on by the crowd we penned Woking in until, finally, Dackers took his chance with aplomb and the draw outcome was sealed.

Whoops, nearly forgot, the Ref and his linos achieved something that I though was impossible, they were worse than the trio at Eastleigh.
Timlin and Deegan to do what? We have among the best defensive records in the league. Cav Miley has been a big part of that. Neither Timlin or Deegan could pass the ball. Timlin scored a goal or two that season where we went up without scoring 3 goals in a game all season if I remember correctly.

Wilkinson was attacked first by a fan.. several punches to the head.
Good. Look at their goal and how the no
3 goaded the fans. That situation at the end was engineered by Woking to waste time.

I remember last season when that utter **** Callum Reynolds jumped around like a loony for Daggers when they scored against us at Victoria Road. Sooner or later these inciteful players should get their comeuppance.

Mooney is easily our most talented player, but we need it give up trying to make him a no10. He’s a wide player and we need to find a way to use him that way.

I found it so frustrating tonight that we left our changes so late. We had so much impetus after the goal and we just let wither away. One of their centre backs was cramping up and having to constantly stretch from the 70th minute, yet we brought Powell on with four minutes left? Absolutely bizarre.

Hopefully the guy in the East hasn’t caused us to get an unneeded fine by the league tonight…

'Timlin and Degan To do what?' - See what happens when I'm tired and don't explain myself properly @Jai? I'd like a player of their pedigree, not for any passing ability or goal scoring feats, but as a mid enforcer to remind visiting teams not to try and intimidate our creative players with some crunching tackles of our own.

A frustrating night yet happy with a point

Ref awful and just got so many decisions wrong one of which resulted in them scoring. Gave them throw ins and corners that weren’t yet missed ones that should have been for us.

We were poor first half and never really got going. Conceded a poor goal. Not sure if Colin should have done better. A good shot but didn’t go in the corner. But we seemed very laboured and other than a decent headed chance for Hyde and a good Husin volley we created little

Second half we were excellant and the crowd responded. We got a cracking equaliser but then seemed to sit off then again and allowed them back in the game. In the end a draw about right

Colin- just not sure and wonder whether Blonde should be given a chance

GSM- worked hard and got forward well and defended as he does and solid

Bridge- MOM for me and looked our most dangerous player

The back three, did little wrong and defended well against tough and pacey forwards

Husin and Miley- battled hard but really need to get on the ball more and try to create

Mooney- so frustrating. Clearly a very pacey and skilful player but things just aren’t happening for him at the moment. Feel he is one goal away from kick starting his season

Hyde- I thought he was the better of the front two. Well marshalled by the Woking CB but won headers and worked hard

Dackers- didn’t think he played well and again wins very little in the air for some so tall. But took his goal very well. Hearing he is off to Altrincham after the Daggers game

So we move on. I like our squad but still don’t think we’ve hit even third gear yet. Still more to come from this group but again tight at the back and now four games unbeaten. Just need to sort out the final third and no better place to do it than Daggers saturday. Not many tickets left so let’s get that away end rocking
Their goal was a slight deflection away from the keeper - I was right behind it in the SUP

Other than a 20 mins spell where we equalised we weren’t at the races last night.
Woking were far better than us all over the pitch for the first 50 mins, strong, disciplined and very, very well organised.
They were quick, decisive and direct.
When they didn’t have the ball they were incredibly fast to get back in to shape and had multiple players on Bridge and Mooney to nullify their impact.
Collin had no chance with their goal as it was a peach of a hit and took a small deflection.
Miley was partially at fault for their goal, from what I saw he had the chance to challenge their player before the shot came in but seemed to stop?
All that said, the goal was a result of two mistakes from the officials….

After we scored anyone else notice how good Woking were at completely shutting the game down?
We were all over them when we scored, and should have gone on to win, but the 20 mins after we scored were dull, stop/start and frustrating. We need to learn how to do that when away from home….

Last thing.

The announcers microphone…..

Is it new?

Does he know how it works?

Why leave it on so we get the annoying background chatter from the people around him and the shouts from the benches??

Grrrrrrrrr

Woking worked really hard off the ball and our two luxury players, Bridge and Mooney, didn't have any end product. Their two did. Cant remember their names but one had a whistle and the other a flag

Powell for Mooney at H/T was my shout. I guess with no LB in the team, Kev was reluctant to switch over Mooney and Bridge or "risk" Powell down the left.

This time last season we lose that game against a strong, physical side who were well drilled and stuck to their game plan. I thought 1-1 before the game and to be fair I think it was a game where neither side really deserved to lose it.

I've said many times the last 2 seasons, we can't surely see worse officials than we've already seen. Time and time again I'm proved wrong .... but Christ these were on another level. I've never seen in any level of football a worse ref or 4th official. Shocking!!

The linesman on the East Side couldn't make his own decisions. The ball went off right next to him, he would have had a clear view of who it came off, yet still waited for the ref to give it first!!

I’m gonna have to disagree there. Michael Timlin had a pass in him. He was capable of defence splitting passes and did it on numerous occasions for us, not every week, but it happened. The problem is we maybe kept faith with him for too long due to him being a long serving player and good character to have around the squad. Because of that we as fans saw the decline in his play too. No arguments from me that his passing became much worse in the last year or so though.

Not the greatest of games from our point of view, but Woking are very well coached, drilled and organised, and the consensus around me in Block W of the West was a point gained rather than two points dropped.

Was crying out for a Harry Taylor run all day type of midfielder IMHO but the main issue I think is up front. For whatever reason, the current front three aren't clicking and we are simply not scoring enough goals. Defensively we look sound (even though Colin makes me nervous on occasion) but in the final third there is something missing.

We go again, onto Daggers on the telly.

That was my half time sub suggestion too.
They were playing a high line constantly, Hyde tried a few times to get beyond them but either was incredibly poor at judging his position or the lino was wrong! Every time!
Powell making his runs would have tested the big backs, Bridge was very often in the wrong starting position for running at his defender, too often facing back and static, often seemingly invisible with his arm in the air.

Haven't watched all of Shrimpers TV footage yet but watched the melee. Very good pictures. I see it's on YouTube. I presume the powers that be can use it. 2 fans ejected as far as I can see. What happens to them. They were on the running track over the wall. All a bit unnecessary.
