Right, well we didn't deserve that at the end. We deserved to win.

Personally, I didn't rate Peterborough very much. I thought they looked a bit clueless at times and often they seemed to be arguing with each other. Paul Taylor was a key man for them, but wasn't in the same class as Chris Maguire on Tuesday night (I notice he scored in their win at Bolton today).

OK, they hit the bar, but so did we.

Overall, I was a bit gutted at the end, in truth.

Oxley 7 - Can't fault him for anything and his kicking and speed off his line were quite impressive. Think he is starting to settle.
Demetriou 7 - Another good game. I like him a lot and he seems perfect for the wing-back role.
Inniss 8 - Colossal fella and colossal performance. Won pretty much everything in the air and is starting to settle well.
Barrett 7 - Got caught a couple of times, but made some saving tackles, especially that one in the second half.
Ferdinand 7 - Yep, he seems to be settling now, too and 180 minutes in four days is great news.
Coker 7 - Much better than Tuesday, especially going forward and, at last, got a few more early crosses in.
Leonard 8 MOM - Started a bit wayward, but man alive he was immense. His tackle to rob their fella and create the move that lead to the penalty was as good as you'll see.
Wordsworth 7 - Didn't have as good a game as Tuesday, but popped up with the crucial goal. Looked devastated when they equalized.
McLaughlin 6 - Worked hard, as usual, but just didn't fall for him, today.
McGlashan 7 - Good all round performance. Just wish he was 1/2 a second sharper in key situations, but that will come. Impressive and far more dangerous than poor old Myles in that role.
Mooney 6 - Not one of his better games, though can't be faulted for effort.

SUBS :

Cox 7 - You can just tell that guy knows what he is doing. Always slightly ahead of the play. Did superbly for the goal and that chance at the end came at him like a bullet. Did well to get it goalwards at all.
Fortune 7 - Great addition to the squad. Nice touches and gives us another option.
O'Neill 7 - Not really on long enough.

OVERALL :

Really starting to take shape and you can now see why the quality players brought in have upped our game. Can't see us being at the bottom for long. There seems a belief now and everyone was gutted at the end, which shows we are in much better shape.

Tomorrow's fans in the making. Great effort OBL and your chums. What happened to the penalty competition?

Elf n Safety I'm afraid, it had actually been tweeted that the walk wasn't going to take place but we decided to go with it just before kick off. The rain really wasn't helpful when you've got youngsters to consider. It's amazing how sticky and slippery that surface gets, particularly in front of the South stand.

The penalties will now be taking place against Chesterfield hopefully.

How does Maddison get away with running 50 yards to celebrate in front of Southend fans after he scored without getting booked?

That celebration was right in front of us.

Bit odd really, it seemed. You'd think he would go up to his own fans who just happened to be at the same end as the goal.

Strange fella! :dim:

We deserved to win - and really should have done. It is a work in progress but there is a great deal more to be positive after the last three home games.
I think we could be even better if we played more ball to feet rather than the regular long ball.

We were remarking upon the fact that we've had three penalties at home this season and they've ALL been for exactly the same thing, even down to the side of the pitch and the end we were attacking.

We should work on this more in training!

There is nothing in this division, so few points separate 7th and 21st place. Can see no reason why we should not not climb the table soon, especially when we are back to full strength. I am quite excited. COYBB

It could easily come down to goal difference and we will really struggle with that.

Strange game really. Think a draw was about right, but a huge disapointment not to win. First half was poor, second half thought we were the better side. However, we must kill teams off, we had chances but that second goal eluded us and we paid the price. Things to note, think the partnership of Wordsworth and Leonard looks good, but we seem to get attacked down the middle on a regular basis. Mcglashan and McLaughlin look good as well. Cox and Fortune did very well when they came on and seemed to have an understanding. Mooney battled hard but offers little. Biggest concern is the back three. The system works ok allowing Coker and Demetriou the freedom to push forward that suits their games but the back three lack pace and the goal was coming in the end. Like Tuesday we were exposed by pace at the back and only poor finishing prevented us losing the game. Not sure Ferdinand and Barrett can play Tuesday / Saturday. Inniss looks a very decent signing. Oxley had a steady game, no chance with the goal. The table is so tight and one win will see us jump 6 or 7 places so certainly signs of improvement. At least the team seem to be battling harder for PB. Our home form is good at the moment, just need sort out the away form

Wasn't on a plate. I was behind the ball and it wasn't easy.

Likewise...I'm right in the east corner of the South Upper and it appeared to be behind his foot when he went to pull the trigger, so I don't think it was as easy as it appeared.

Re. the performance, I can't tell you how close I was to not bothering to turn up today. Well, I am quite pleased I listened to my blindly loyal portion of the brain, as that was the first time I left RH feeling mildly positive in months.

It was far from the perfect all-round performance, but we moved the ball around with purpose for once, and the 3-4-3 formation places pace and attacking impetus in key areas of the pitch (down the wings...), and with the bottle-man and Ferdinand at the back together, we have aerial dominance and strength we have been crying out for for some time.
Bright sparks for me were the performance of the bottle-man (jesus - you wouldn't mess with him...evil eyes on that one!), the ever-lasting pace of McGlashan, and the physicality which Fortune brought to the game - with Ranger seemingly nearing a return, we will basically have a goalscoring version of Fortune at our disposal.

Just need to build on this and get something at Rochdale now.

Good game, dissapointing to concede late on, but probably a fair result on the overall balance of play. A word for Peterborough's no 10 who was excellent, best player I've seen this season, a bit like Jack Payne on acid. Luckily he left his shooting boots at home.

Oxley 7 - Kicking first half was patchy, other than that he didn't do much wrong. No chance for the goal and his handling was very good.

Demetriou 7 - Decent, if unspectacular performance. One shooting chance which he scuffed.
Barrett 8 - Didn't put a foot wrong and one excellent block shortly before we scored.
Ferdinand 7 - Looks a class act, certainly with the ball at his feet. My only annoyance was his continued arguing with the ref following a foul in the first half. Yes the decision was contentious, but he should be setting a better example and was lucky not to be booked.
Inness 7 - Won everything in the air, though with Peterborough's small front line I wouldn't have expected anything less. On the floor he looked OK if a bit safety first. Is he better than Thompson? debatable, but he does add some much needed aerial presence.
Coker 7 - Got caught out once early on, other than that a solid performance.

Leonard 7 - Ordinary first half, good defensively but poor going forward. Improved after half time, one brilliant run to set up the late Cox chance.
Wordsworth 7 - Ok, negatives first. He offers little to nothing defensively and the pen miss was woeful. Positives, the one centre mid player we've got with a real goal threat, and popped up when it mattered to score.

McGlashan 8 MOM - Impressed me again, Peterborough couldn't handle his pace and we're reduced to persistent fouls. My only slight niggle was the chance early second half when he shot with other players better placed.
Mooney 6 - Struggled to make an impact today. Annoyed that he was offside from a goal kick early in the second half.
McLaughlin 6 - As with Mooney, he struggled to make much impact on the game despite working hard.

Subs
Cox 7 - Made a difference and was involved in the build up for the goal. Had a chance to make it 2-0, I was sitting right behind it and it definitely wasn't a sitter as some have claimed.
Fortune 7 - Like Cox made a positive impact, he looks a real handful and has got a decent touch too. He's certainly not the donkey some were making him out to be. On first impressions he looks a decent short term signing, he certainly looks more likely to make a difference from the bench than Williams has.
O'Neill - Not enough time to rate.

I'm going to give Brown credit for the double substitution. After the pen miss, heads could have gone down. The subs made a positive difference and sparked the move which lead to the goal.

However I'm going to admonish him for the final sub. We were already sitting back, McGlashan was our best option of an out ball on the the break. Once he went off we had no threat going forward, sat deeper and deeper, before the almost inevitable sucker punch. We could even have lost, Moncur's late effort was too close for comfort.

On a real downer after conceding so late. It was a really strange sort of game - it always felt like we'd win it 1-0 to me. When Cox missed at the end I felt no trepidation at the final few minutes at all. The first half was a poor game of football - lots played in the middle third - cagey and a lack of quality. If anything they shaded it, but had no decent finisher. Both teams had a pretty good go in the second half, but our moves were slicker and more threatening. The team worked really well together - there was a surprising degree of telepathy considering the lack of a settled team, with some ambitious fancy flicks turning into sweeping moves. The performance wasn't amazing but there's definitely room for positivity.

Oxley 7 - did the basics well, off his line well, decent distribution but it feels like he's incapable of making outstanding saves ever
Coker 8 - Excellent going forward, rarely caught out at the back.
Inniss 8 - Great feet for such a unit - v calm on the ball and took pressure of the rest of the backline.
Barrett 7 - Worked hard, won a lot in the air but occasionally got caught out of position
Ferdinand 6 - Grew into the game - good in last half hour but some awful passes(straight out of play) early on.
Demetriou 7 - worked hard and lots of good work building moves but dwells on the ball longer than needed at times.
Leonard 8 - Best game I've seen from him for ages. Some fantastic saving tackles and good through balls
McGlashan 8.5 - MOM he seemed to be at the centre of most of the creative forward play. Worked tirelessly
Wordsworth 7 - Bad pen miss, good finish, didn't cover as much ground as most of the midfield.
McClaughlin 7 - Much better in the first half. V nearly scored with a trick header.
Mooney 6.5 Ran about but a bit clumsy and kept getting caught offside.

Subs - Cox- 7, Fortune - 7, O'Neill - not on long enough
Brown 7.5 - subs worked and team had spirit
Ref - did ok

Just wanted to add how annoyed I was that some booed at the final whistle. After the Fleetwood game, okay, probably deserved, but today where the team worked their nuts off and very nearly won against a decent Peterborough team?
