Exactly this.

Last season against Chesterfield, there were people saying AB was caught upfield and we got hit on the break and lost 1-0.

Sometimes football works that way.

I remember it well- by then we needed wins to have any chance of finishing in the top six.

Chesterfield's goal came from a slip up by Cain Bolger - who never played for the club again.

Of course, The Bolger. He was a little unlucky on that one, as he got caught between closing down the runner and picking up Novak and was off-balance with his attempted clearance.

Ps, Whatever happened to Lee Novak and his Charlton goalscoring!

Novak has only started two games - I bet he didn't see that coming when he signed for them - and Ajose has not done much better.

Your probably right but at least he has £2,000 per week more, to help soften the bench.

Just finally seen the 10 minutes highlights on BluesPlayer. Admittedly the other 80 minutes weren't there, but the highlights made it look like a good game and made it look like we were all over Peterborough especially in the first half. Certainly seems like a strong effort from the lads, just need a bit more luck. Not quite such a poor penalty as the radio commentary suggested, but Wordsworth should have belted it! I'm not sure that Lennie's cross was behind Cox but he was running in so fast that it's difficult to be sure - nice embarrased, or resigned, smile from him afterwards though. If I was a Posh supporter watching those highlights I'd have said that Peterborough were bloomin' fortunate to gain a point.

I wonder if they showed him a powerpoint of all the potential bench designs, as well as the comfiest position to sit  In other news, has Jay Simpson played yet? Or are they saving him for tonight?

I'm pretty sure PB wasn't shouting "play deeper, play deeper" in the last 10 minutes!!

And shock horror, team leading tries to defend lead, whilst losing team starts attacking more; who would have thought

The message from the bench was quite clear by taking off an attacking midfielder and replacing him with a 6th defender.

....or what about that wing-back and centre half who both nearly added a 3rd against Oxford.

... and that defensive midfielder who scored a match-clinching injury time 2nd goal away at Barnsley, last season.

I thought it was a good game and we looked far more confident and solid than we have this season. Whilst we were the better team in the second half Peterborough started stronger and probably shaded the first half. I felt we were unlucky not to win but the victory over Oxford flattered us so on balance 4 points over the 2 games is a pretty fair return.

On the Cox chance Lenny hit it very hard and slightly behind Cox so probably a tougher chance than replays may suggest.

At the beginning of the season with a back 4 of Demetriou, Barrett, Thompson, and Coker plus King or Atkinson in Midfield we looked lightweight and especially shaky at set pieces against taller attackers. With Innis and Ferdinand in defence plus Wordsworth in midfield we look far more robust. Oxley also looks more confident with greater protection in front of him.

I was disappointed with Demetriou early season but the last 2 games in a slightly more advanced role he has looked a lot better. McGlashan has also looked a lot better and for a short player he wins more than his fair share of high long balls by taking the ball low with good control and turning the defender. Combined with the returning Wordsworth and options up front with Fortune (and soon Ranger) whilst I came away disappointed with the late equaliser I am feeling far more confident about the rest of the season.

Does that mean you want to congratulate Brown on helping him to improve his striking ability?

Yes, congratulations to Brown for getting him to raise O'Neill's goal rate back up a little towards the merely low rate it was before Brown started managing him.

Hopefully this resounding managerial success will be sufficient to get him a job elsewhere.

ok my third game in three years beat oxford 1-0 , 3 years ago, shrewsbury 1-0 2 years ago and I thought another 1-0 beckoned. I sat in the West next to a guy that moaned all game seemed Coker was his main man to moan at. My thoughts even forst half with their number 10 making some good runs coming to nothing. I thought the defense was excellent and looked really solid with 5 at the back although we were being over run in midfield and I felt we were humping the long ball up the field too much. second half we were very good started using the wing backs and playing through midfield. Looked better than bottom 4 team I thought. I thought Coker played Ok. I thought Southend were a big team , lots of physicality. The crowd were good and got behind the team and gave them a good clap for their efforts at the end. So that was my take on it. As for Roots Hall brought so many memories back for me , just thinking of all that chewing gum still in the middle of the North Bank where we stood.

Most people would agree that no player for us had a duff game or lacked the effort. When chaps like you travel all the way from Jockland to watch then you deserve to see some product. Safe journey back to the barren wastelands.
