Having seen the highlights I actually think a yellow would have been harsh!! Phillips has gone in one footed and his foot isn't off the ground. The referee has a yellow card out before the lino makes himself busy. I think there's a case for an appeal.

I stand by my view of the goal that there's no way the lino can see through Murphy, Bentley, Keirnan and Coker to decide if that has definitely crossed the line!

That is the point of 'impact'. Phillips is clearly going in with one foot and he isn't even high. That's an honest 50/50

With Coker and Bentley obstructing the linesman, how can he call that!?

Maybe my hearing needs testing, but I have sworn that I heard the East Stand singing last night, (South stand end) especially at the end of the match. Top marks to them as we were somewhat subdued last night IMO

Yes there was indeed some vocal support from TBW (The Blue Whisper) in the East Greens - as well as some good natured humour aimed at Mr Hines - however this was somewhat spoiled when someone lowered the tone by calling him a F****** Tart!

How is Bentley obstructing the lino's view? He is in front of the line and the ball is behind. In any case it was 2 feet over at a guess (East Black, right at the goal end).

Because the lino wasn't standing on the line was he? The goal came from a long ball over the top so you're telling me he was up with play!? The lino is looking at that from at least 8 yards out diagonally so Bentley and Coker are inbetween him and the ball

I'm gutted weve lost as I thought 2nd half we took the game to them,i was watching phil brown from where I was sitting and he was constantly shouting at the players to attack Dagenham perhaps one or two were a bit wary of a quick counter which was understandable. The sending off first half changed the match we had been on top at that point but when I saw it I knew he'd go ,ive seen tackles in other adult games like that and referees don't hesitate to show red.Phillips is not a dirty player and I can believe what he said about his standing foot slipped which meant he mistimed it.On saying that he did nothing about the constant play acting from certain Daggers players especially the one who simulated a dive after being tackled by Ben coker who was understandably furious.Lots of positives though so roll on Newport and hope for 3 points.

That was never a red card , barely a foul . Sick of players screaming like big babies every time they get tackled to be honest , ref should have realised he'd been conned as soon as he came back on .

Looks to me like the ball would have clearly crossed the line, seeing as it bounces just in front of the line and is travelling before Coker can hook it away.

Red card? Maybe. It was a nasty tackle over the ball. Seen reds and yellows given for them and it's that kind of tackle than can break a leg.

To me it doesnt look like a red but can see why it was given because of the way the play gets launched. Made it look worse than it was.

Bentley doesn't seem sure it never went over as the first thing he does is look to the lino, and he was only feet away.

I have the same views after watching the highlights as I did last night. From South upper I thought the Philips tackle looked a red. Doesn't look as bad on replay but still leaves the ground and it's a bit of a launch.

If Bentley stays on his line they don't score from that angle.

Said all along it didn't look a red, so I'm glad the highlights appear back it up. Hines, Elito and Murphy were throwing themselves on the floor ALL night and getting free kicks every time, I am not advocating it but with the ref that way inclined, it would have served us well to emulate some of those tactics, and that's what I was saying Payne and Woodrow need to learn.

I do like it when our resident refs disagree!

i think phillips got a little unlucky with the tackle. it was initially made about half way up the ball, but because he was more powerful than the dagenham player, his foot seemed to me to end up rolling over the ball. as soon as it happened i said to my mate that he could be gone.

I don't really see why people are so outraged that the Ref spoke to his assistant before making his decision. Yes he had got the yellow out of his pocket but hadn't "shown" it. I see no problem with him asking the lino if he had a better view and coming to what they think is the best decision.

For what its worth, from the South Upper, i thought he had a least a 50% chance of getting a red as soon as I saw it.
The theatrical roll after contact definitely swayed the referee. If he had been half a man or even just a sport, got up a gave it a bit of a rub like anyone on here would have or had done in their playing time ..it would have been a booking at worst. But I guess that's modern professional football for you and all part and parcel of the tactics and win at all costs mentallity.

Huge amount of rolling around by Murphy and he seems to holding the leg that Phillips didn't catch. he got up and walked off pretty quick after the Red card too.

if southend are convinced it wasn't a red card then they will appeal and show the evidence, if he gets the red card receded then the ref should face the FA for making such a **** up which has cost a team the chance of gaining 3 points or maybe in our case not loosing 3 points

Having looked at the highlights, its easy to see how the ref got press-ganged into sending Phillips off. There was a lot of rolling around, which made things look a lot worse than it was. A yellow would have been justified as it was a foul, but i am still not convinced it was a red card. What happens if we appeal the red, knowing it was almost certainly a yellow?

I very much get the feeling that Daggers came down and had planned to 'win' a sending off as part of their tactics. they were going to ground every time one of our players went near them, so its no surprise we were backing off - we would have ended up with 3 or 4 sendings off if we had challenged as we should have done. John White was fortunate, I thought he was heading for an early bath; the daggers player was doing everything he could to hoodwink the ref, and White looked close to losing it completely at one point. There should have been at least 3 cards for Daggers with their diving and time wasting. Maybe they were also going for an oscar!!

It did look like it was a goal - but these are not given as often as they are. Either way, it was controversial, because the lino would have had a job seeing that clearly from where he was.

Overall, a frustrating night. Was impressed how we responded though, we looked the better side for a lot of the game, but it just wasnt our night.

Seen it on the highlights. Goal yes, sending off, not in a million years. Just a normal tackle slightly mistimed. Yellow at the very worst.

Interestingly, I think White was up against a former Col U team-mate in Medy Elito? Bet he had a few choice words with him about his tactics!

Never a red card looking at that. Clearly a goal. Would have loved to see the penalty appeals again, certainly the one on Coker as he dribbled into the box, the one where Clifford was bundled over when running in to meet a cross (just before daggers scored), the one where Corr was bundled to the ground, the one where Corr was shoved about 3 yards from a standing start and the one where Corr and another were bundled to the ground.
