Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-3 Barnet

Full disclosure. I'm a season ticket holder and have been watching Southend for about 35 years.

Today is the first time ever I have chosen not to go to a game.

When Bim was recalled, I scoured the zone waiting.for some news on re-enforcements. I couldn't quite believe that we still haven't signed anyone as recently as last night.

When I awoke this morning, my wife was very excited. We've reached the age where we enjoy a nice coffee and she'd picked up some nice beans and suggested we take a flask to the game.

I surprised myself by saying I didn't want to go.

I've mentioned on here a lot lately about not expecting results. Of course we probably wouldn't beat high flying Barnet even with an addition or 2.

I just couldn't face watching us today. I listened on the radio and it sounded as dire as I feared.

I don't enjoy watching this style of football. I don't enjoy Maher on the touchline. I don't enjoy some decent players (Coker, Bridge, Cav) actually getting worse week on week. I don't enjoy seeing decline at a time we should be hopeful.

I don't enjoy our directors being out and and about, having pints with the fans while a professional football club with such a loyal fan base are declining week on week.

There's a lot of intelligent, wealthy people attached to our club now. A prospect unimaginable a couple of years back.

We've got the north bank back. Something about 30 lads wanted.

We got a striking off notice because someone didn't think it would be a problem not to submit some paperwork.

We've got a manager on a 3 year contract and no budget to improve the playing squad and presumably, no budget to sack him.

A fan engagement board and a qr code. A chief exec who had to be told toilets were broken and assumed they were fixed without checking.

The new chair of the trust won't have a bad word said against the management or COSU. The trust. The voice of the fans. Unless you disagree with them.

Since we were saved, this actually feels less and less like "my" team. My club.

I feel like I'm being patted on the head. Here Matt, we have 7 quid burgers. Oh but the seats are filthy. Here Matt, we've spent thousands on structural work in the north bank. Oh but we can't afford a midfielder. Oh Matt. We've spoken to Macron and we've got some really nice shirts now. Oh but you can't buy one as the stock isn't available.

The defence of poor management and mistakes by COSU are cult like.

Sorry for the rant. But today's result was completely predictable.

I'll score all the players a ten today. They were heroic.

Just call people out if you have an issue mate. No point being passive aggressive. It is a board for opinions remember.
It most certainly is, and you've got yours and I've got mine. Nothing to do with passive aggressive.

I wasn’t there can’t comment on the performance but listened on radio. Saw the Line up and knew we had no chance.
5-3-2 formation is negative we know.

However, your back 5 today are all defenders and not really wing backs in particular (GSM a mix I guess)

Miley defensive
Coke bit in the middle.

So out of the 11 including gk we have 8 defensive players on the pitch!

Husin offers not a lot now and the top two have got no chance. With 8 defensive players, creativity will also be very limited as players naturally play safe, hence sideways and backwards.

Big changes needed…big revolution needed for me, kev the first sign of madness is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result…

Sorry to hear that. I understand where you are coming from but please don't give up. Supporting Southend is always going to be more bad times than good. Your opinion is just as valuable as anyone else's. It is extremely tough at the mo especially when things were not supposed to be anymore but it's up to our voice to help work that stuff out.

but it's ok because weve got £7 burgers and more beer selection

Completely forgot about this guys atrocious kicking. I counted 3 or 4 miss-kicks and Kev barely batted an eyelid. If that was Collin he'd have been jumping a up and down and getting a right strop on.
He’s an emergency loan effectively - here because we don’t have a complete squad that includes a second keeper

This is seriously the worst watch in all Leagues I would have thought?
Why are we wasting time with this manager?
His team selection is blatantly wrong every week, the tea bar women would have a better shot at it!
This club legend thing is driving me mad, no legend to me with his crab football. Probably the least attacking/bereft of ideas manager we have ever had?
Lucky to escape relegation with Mr. Don’t shoot in charge, we’re looking at people oh please , yawnnnnn!

That was, as most of us have already suggested, a God damn awful, gutless performance. I don't wish to start aportioning blame but us fans could see it; COSU could see it; Barnet supporters could see it; Any independent viewers of that game could see it and surely KM and the management team must have seen it. There is something very wrong that needs sorting out.
I could provide an interpretation of recent events but it's certainly one which is not going to be published. It could be, as some have suggested, that our owners have accepted that this season has gone and that there's no reason to throw more money at a squad in an effort to achieve tenth place as opposed to sixteenth. Ony targets which fit medium/long term goals will be considered. Other than that, by the end of the month we'll bring in one or two loan signings to bolster the squad, consolidate our mid-division ranking and provide some strengthening to hopefully enable us to progress in the FA Trophy. IF that is correct, of course no one is going to come out openly and say it. The true nature of our ambition will therefore only become evident by the squad we have prior to the first game next season.
If today's performance wasn't enough to gripe about, I'll end with DAZN. No complaint about the actual streaming today, they even got it going before the game kicked off! I watch a live game to live it, as it happens. Therefore, I found it bloody annoying that a goal was indicated in the top right hand corner of the screen about fifteen seconds prior to it happening.

We play 352. But the players aren’t good enough and I agree too many lack creativity, attacking intent, goal threat.

There is no one on the bench particularly better than those on the pitch. You can swap them around but little will change.

Paul Clark said after the match that if you got the service our forwards get in a restaurant you would walk out. He is, of course, correct.

To do the necessary changes requires new players- and in this area thus far Kev has received the square root of nothing.

Which is another notch against the poor running of the team and the recruitment
If you don’t recruit a complete squad, including a second keeper you have scouted, brought in and integrated into the team then this is the risk you take.

I’m sure the recruitment situation is doing Kev’s head in.

Cav Miley, SHOCKING
And we have Keenan and Morton on the bench!!! WTF
COSU need to act but something tells me, the only change will be the good attendances.
One of the reasons COSU won’t react against Kev is that they know when it comes to the playing side they are equally culpable. And they won’t be sacking themselves.

If you mean act in terms of knocking heads together, and getting the transfer activity fully running, and delivering the incomings necessary to turn things around then I agree.
