Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-3 Barnet

Prior to kick off I thought it would be tight game due to losing Bim we would struggle to score.Well I was correct on that one but didn't expect such a lack luster display.Totally devoid on any creative play and tactically inept.Kev has a massive job on his hands to turn this around my big concern if we dont put in an improvement against Dagenham next week the fanbase will turn as they clearly shown today as many walked out early and the booing at the end.
Oh yes the Referee wasnt great but we didn't loose because of him

Spot on. We said at half time that we needed Bonne on to win headers and keep the ball. It did happen, but way too late, I would have also swopped Bonne with Walker, not Kendall.
I would have swapped Bonne with Ralph at half time and got rid of Miley or Husin as well for KAF.

Well that was 90 mins of my life wasted, possibly the worst ive ever seen us play, Sorry Kev and COSU, Somethings gotta change here as ive seen better creative football from the kids up the local park, most of these players just havent got it , creativity and passion looks likes its a thing thats departed, the midfield is non existant, the strike force has no bite , its woefull.
Outplayed and rightfully so, clearout definately needed.
Ok we are lucky to have a club , i accept this , but if this negativity continues on the pitch the crowd is gonna drop and you can forget about large gates next year.

Maher has got until the end of this season and into next season with no embargo crap or other excuses etc but performances like that would make me want to get rid of him before the end of the season.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I get if 5-3-2 is Kevs preferred formation, but to wheel it out every match is getting a little bit tired now. Barnet played with 1 up top, so we had 3 centre backs marking 1 guy. Change it and push one further or 2 further forward and assist in the midfield.

Why not change the formation to suite the team we are playing rather than have a formation and then scramble around our limited squad to then locate players to fit into that system.

Thought the ref was crap and was very confused why the goal was disallowed. Will be interesting to see that again on a replay. Even if it wasn't though Barnet (said begrudgingly) were far and away the better side. But that's why they are where they are in the league and we are where we are.

Special mention to Dan on the drum in the North Bank. Fair play to keep going all match when that performance was being served up. Heard it loud and clear in the East Reds. And because the drum was in there only time i heard Barnet was when they scored. Thought it worked well at the beginning with the drum and some combined signing between the West and the East. But after the 2nd goal went in it did become a bit disjointed with what seemed like the majority of the vocal in the West but the drum and the noise it generates in the North.

Hmm, 'what's a footballing hipster?', I wondered. So I looked it up. There's plenty of research out there. For anyone who has ever defended any of Kev's tactical decisions, read the following and see if it's you:

"After watching live, you’ll eagerly sit through a recording of the match, pausing and rewinding on multiple occasions to dissect tactical trends, analyse changes to the formational shape of the teams, and note ‘player movement’. For the fully-fledged football hipster, you may also freeze and screenshot examples of said play, adding them to an online ‘tactical trends scrapbook’ and writing a blog about Uruguay’s inverted wing-backs, Colombia’s ‘false nine’ or whatever."

Guilty as charged?
I very much doubt anyone on here fits that description, but when supporters are at the point where they are despairing/angry/or whatever, they will sometimes chuck those sort of phrases in for effect. Another one is descrying those that applaud at the end. I didn't this time, as the team didn't deserve it in my view, but if some did, then so what, it's their choice.

Today was sll sbout Maher's stubbornness and inability to manage our great club.
Stubbornly played the same awful formation that has not worked all season.
Stubbornly started players who are out of form.
The stubborness of bringing in mainly defensive midfielders in the years with us.
Stubbornly telling the team to play a non-direct game with more passes than needed before even thinking of a shot.
Stubbornly not playing the best striker pairings.
Stubbornly won't resign so we, as a club, can move foward with a more progressive coach.

Currie and Benno don't necessarily need to go with him but Maher has to go, or if we are rewarding his loyalty give him an ambassadorial role but keep him away from the first team.
I don’t reckon Kevin could afford to resign, unless he had a job lined up first.

The bloke has an aggregate 42% win rate in the Championship with a Club who have the fourth lowest budget in the division...
Impressive stats, and maybe he'd be the answer. Tedious football though. I'm in the success before entertainment camp, so wouldn't bother me, but there are plenty who say entertainment is the most important thing.

Just call people out if you have an issue mate. No point being passive aggressive. It is a board for opinions remember.

To be fair, I don't think he's being passive-aggressive at all. It seems to me, he's being empathetic about people's anger.

Making out that those who 'chuck phrases around for effect' just smacks of a superiority of opinion complex.
Ironically, exactly the profile of a footballing hipster.

I haven’t read the rest of the thread but can guess at it. The atmosphere in V/W block today was toxic, first time I’ve really seen it to that extent under Maher. Today was so poor .. what was telling for me was the body language of the players after the first went in. It reminded me of the dark days under Bond/Waddock etc.
We lacked passion and ideas and Barnet took the **** really. Don’t think they even had to get out of first gear.

I’ve said all along I want Kev to succeed but he changed nothing today that had the slightest impact on the match, something isn’t right. Maybe in truth it hasn’t been since the Kensdale saga. He’d have heard the chants today .. if would’ve hurt him. But as much as the bloke is a Southend legend he needs to get this sorted or the atmosphere will get worse and all last season’s goodwill will be gone. People are turning.

This season has been completely draining. I can count on one hand the number of games this season that have been genuinely enjoyable, most of those due to Pepple who isn’t here anymore.

Morton sets up KAF for the only goal against Southport. Yet both drop to the bench for the completely pedestrian Miley and Husin. Both have not been anywhere near good enough this season, and that isn’t going to change if their mediocrity keeps being rewarded with a place in the starting lineup. The midfield overall was just non-existent.

I feel sorry for the strikers, the service just isn’t there. And unfortunately neither of them are like Pepple who could create chances from nothing.

You can see why Harness is available as a short notice panic loan, hopefully Collin is ok for next week.

Defending from corners absolutely shambolic, and not for the first time this season.

I don’t think I’m Maher out yet personally, but at any ‘normal’ club, he would be close to the sack. He has clearly built up some credit in the bank with COSU based on what he has done over the past couple of years, and not undeservedly so. But I have serious doubts about whether he is the one to get us promoted, which begs the question how much longer do COSU give him? They either need to back him more with transfers, or make a change. Because carrying on as we are is not a viable option.

Intrigued as to what chants were heard by Kev as I didn't hear much apart from the usual moaning and complaints (mostly from myself!) in the South Upper.

The sideways and backwards one, “give us our money back” .. fans chanting “off off” at Bonne when he fouled someone .. sure he would’ve heard some of it. Plus the general feeling around the ground.
