Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-3 Barnet

Did you watch there corners and set pieces? It’s quite obvious if you understand football lol

Every set piece Golding was marking Collinge and he scored on 2 occasions after losing his marker Golding
He’s a 20 year old learning his trade. At Wealdstone on loan before us. Of course, we would love a 23/24 year old Kensdale replacement. We’ve had a few months to bring that person in- it remains one of the urgent areas for improvement

I’m not disputing that I was pulled up by sarcasm when I stated an obvious observation

If you don’t recruit a complete squad, including a second keeper you have scouted, brought in and integrated into the team then this is the risk you take.

I’m sure the recruitment situation is doing Kev’s head in.
He’s doing the crowds head in with his inability to change anything….them players are good enough but not with his mindset, just ain’t got it

One of the reasons COSU won’t react against Kev is that they know when it comes to the playing side they are equally culpable. And they won’t be sacking themselves.

If you mean act in terms of knocking heads together, and getting the transfer activity fully running, and delivering the incomings necessary to turn things around then I agree.
Maybe COSU have doubts about Kev and that’s why they’ve held back on signings, we don’t know. I’m in the “these players could do better” camp, I really don’t think some have become rubbish overnight. As I said in another post as did someone else I think, maybe the Kensdale situation did some irreversible damage. Seems more and more apparent that something’s off.

Agreed. If I didn't perform my job I'd probably be put on an improvement plan and if no improvement a quick don't let the door hit you on the way out would probably shortly follow.
And if you didn’t perform when the employer was failing to support you by investing in the product, and not giving the tools to do the job? Who puts owners and directors on an improvement plan?

This is why many business fail. Rather than address the real issues they just change employees and management, and are stunned when the product is still rubbish and the tools are still not there, and the results remain the same.

So when Collin was going thru a dodgy spell he stuck with him…..got a bit of confidence back and then ruins him by bringing in another bloke that is a lot worse……I’ve had just about enough of this useless manager!
This keeper has been brought in as Collin wasn't fit to play on Wednesday - don't know if he's fully recovered to have played today or not, but of all the things you could (and have previously) blamed kev for, this is the strangest

They just recently gave them 3 year contracts? I don’t think this is the reason for the lack of signings- I would love to know what’s behind it

We've not had a 2nd keeper all season and have had to keep relying on loans. Personally I find this highly embarrassing that we've been unable to get a second keeper on the books!

If they were there today they’d be questioning the wisdom of those 3 year contracts I’d guess.
Or questioning their own ability to implement an effective transfer policy that results in the manager getting the tools to do the job? They may also have thought he’s right we need to bring new bodies in?

They may be also questioning the wisdom of buying a football club

I’ve a nagging feeling something’s not right, team spirit or whatever .. I stand by that. It’s been the body language .. the lack of protest when our players get fouled or decisions go against us .. and notably a few of the underperforming players raised their game substantially for Charlton (funny that). It may be we need a whole new dressing room, which can’t be achieved in Jan. There’d need to be outgoings as well as incomings. Or …. maybe the coaching staff aren’t totally free from scrutiny. Ultimately football is about results.
Let’s hope we get things right soon however it’s achieved. As someone else said if today was your first match you’d never return.

He does the old fitness thing all the time when he doesn’t fancy a player….Collin on one arm/leg has got to be better than the amateur today?

Well. That match (and day) turned out exactly as I feared. When I arrived at my seat, I found it covered in bird excrement. A portent for further upcoming excrement I thought, as I was removing said guano.

Then I saw the defensive lineup. At home. Against Barnet. Maybe Kev thought we were playing prime Barcelona.

So to the match. Men against boys. Barnet thoroughly deserved their win and 3-0 was not flattering in anyway. We offered the sum of absolute zero in attacking intent.

Whilst in between the few actual attacks by the blues I had time to ponder this seasons performances I've seen at Roots Hall. Despite being a season ticket holder (for the 35th season in a row and at my expense of £375), I have only been able to attend 9 home league games this season so far. In those 9 league games, I've seen just 2 wins and 8 goals for the shrimpers. If my maths is correct that means I've paid for the privilege of £46 per goal seen this season at the Hall 😲😳

I've come to the conclusion that 'Maher football' is bland, passive, totally unentertaining, not value for money at all and thoroughly unenjoyable.
Having said all that. I'll be there at Dagenham next Saturday. More fool me.

Haha even the Kev fans must not be able to argue with this!

Any Kev fans must be literally blind/extremely clueless, you couldn’t make up how he sets up. Got away with it playing Ebsfleet and Braintree, oh please, and we hung on….he just has not got it to be a manager, so defensive it makes Saturday shopping with the missus sound exciting !
