Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Yeovil Town

...and as per previous post, five senior men's games this season so far.
Not sure whether she has refereed one or twenty makes any difference. The general standard at this level is very poor and probably, therefore, there are a number of her male counterparts who have both refereed more games, and are as bad or quite possibly worse.

In the end the league/FA/whoever need to address standards (its on them) rather than castigate individual refereeing performances (particularly when it’s all too often reflective of the overall standard).

As has been as said in the end for all of the above it was a rush of blood/misjudgement by an inexperienced keeper that undid us today.

Am dreading the misogyny that's coming.
Please @Cricko and staffers - keep an eye on it. Yeah, the ref might have been poor but let comments reflect decisions on the pitch rather than anything else.
I made a comment in the match thread - post 165 that some people got and some didnt

With hindsight I should have added a line at the bottom of the post —-how many did you get which might have made it more obvious

some people got my post, some didn’t

For clarity I’m not anti female refs

The context of my post was answering a post with a ‘joy division’ song which was in reply to another ‘joy division’ song post . Mine was the third joy division post and I included six joy division titles in it .
Normally people ‘get these posts, but I guess JD aren’t as well known as I thought they were

Absolutely fuming after that. Referee completely destroyed the game and atmosphere at the Hall today. Nit picking decisions, needlessly going over to the management area time and time again, swayed by players and generally way way way out of her depth.

Jeacock…look he came out recklessly and the ball hit his arm outside the area (ball to arm not arm to ball). Yeovil continued to play and were only denied by a clearance off the line. Referee then decided to bring the game back and send off Jeacock. Now I am not aware of the rules fully but to me there was no denial of a goalscoring opportunity and therefore a yellow and freekick should have sufficed in this case for me. Those that state it was a definite red and easy decision for ref…please explain how you came to that conclusion?

Performance…well once referee had finished playing around with the game we were a man and a manager down so difficult to judge but we still at least tried to take the game to Yeovil and were caught cold by a very lucky goal when Collin was caught under the ball due to his positioning.

Generally though a little of an “after the Lord Mayors show” feel about the whole thing. Onwards to the next one but we really need to start stringing some results together now, it’s starting to look a little bleak.

I was quite optimistic today after last weeks performance
The new burger/hot food van out the back of the West looked good and some of the hot dogs/burgers looked lovely as well.

Thought the minutes silence went a bit wrong and I have never heard clapping at one before?

Thought the game was pretty boring tbh and up until the red card we matched Yeovil. Was it just me but I swear I saw the ref go for a yellow card on the keeper and then once surrender by Yeovil players changed her mind and issued the red. Personally I thought the ref lost the game in the first 10-15 mins with her making some strange decisions and it has to be up there amoung the worst refs at RH but, saying that I generally do think the standard of refereeing is abysmal in this league whether they be male or female.

Felt a little for Bim today he worked hard and their no.5 couldn’t cope with him so they double up on him every time he got the ball. I also felt a little for Walker as he finally started and then had to be subbed after 10 mins.
Thought Taylor, Ralph & Crowther done ok this afternoon and everyone else tried hard but it just never came together for us. It was always going to be an uphill task with 10 men and Yeovil are on a roll atm BUT, we have to (at least) win our home games.
The goal I thought was a cross rather than a shot and there was not many shots on either goal today.
I had no idea what the red was for Kev as I am over in the West but guessed he said something. This will be his second ban this season and should be wary he doesn’t get a name for himself but I suppose you can understand his frustrations.

We were just not good enough today.

Last week the ref allowed everything physical to go. Shirt pulling wasn’t a foul.
- How did we react? Free headers for Charlton.
- How did Charlton react? They wrestled Bim half to death, so much that he was knackered by 60 mins.

This week, the awful ref allowed nothing physical and any contact was a foul IF the player hit the floor
- How did we react? We got frustrated and continually gave free kicks away. But we didn’t do it ourselves. We fought to stay on our feet
- How did Yeovil react? The continued to hit the deck - so much so that they took a couple of blatant dives in the first part of the second half (in case you wonder what the half time team talk comprised of).

We should be scouting the refs as much as the opposition, and / or we need to learn how to adapt to them as the game starts. Until that happens we will continue to come off worse than the likes of Yeovil who weren’t as good at football as us, but managed the game better.

For the rest of the game - Bim was great again. Collin made a great save. Having Bonne as the only striker sub is a problem. It was a sending off from a poor decision from a young keeper. The ref played the advantage but was right to pull it back for a red.

We are mid table, despite having 7 or 8 players who are there or thereabouts to are top 3 teams quality. But that’s about where we are as a team as the gaps are in some of the most important positions. We will be mid table until we can sign a commanding centre back, a goalscorer to work with Bim and Walker and perhaps a keeper with a bit more experience.

We must have one of the worst home records in the league , and to think RH used to be a fortress. Almost 7000 people at the match, im thinking unless things change very quickly numbers are going to fall dramatically and thats not what COSU want . I really believe Kev is skating on thin ice now . His tactics are woeful , or the team arent playing to instructions , I will go back to what ive said many times now ,what we need is a McCormack type midfielder and a leader in defence like Barrett was What we have is a team full ( well not quite ) of pussies , I think Cav will be back verses Altrincham but in place of who im not sure , Obviously with Kev getting a red card he wont be on the side line , Currie and Benno only .

Anyway.,, Walker, Bonne, Husain Moncur not at the level we require.. for goodness sake either give Jack Wood a chance or let him move on.. Giving Coker Colin and Miley the benefit of the doubt…

Tally all this up and it’s no surprise we are where we are… season over… I fear we will lose Gus in Jan now..

Tend to agree.
The standard is poor, and I said it before Day 1 in this wretched league. I've had to cover other NL clubs before we got here, and it's not got any better.
I wonder if there is a ref report made to the squad beforehand?
Part of me hopes 'no', If there was - how thick are we not to react accordingly?

I wasn't convinced it hit his arm straight away, and then I thought the resulting shot at an open goal was advantage. If it goes in its a goal right?

Having watched it back, the ball is going away from goal and would have fallen to Ralph's safe side as Jeacock forced the Yeovil player wider than he wanted.

Not only would have Ralph probably had control of the ball or certainly made an attempt to play it, it would have not been a clear and obvious opportunity. Yellow card it should have been.

Never mind.
