Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Yeovil Town

I think that we are below halfway in the league for several reasons.
1/ Goalkeepers- fair
2/ Defence- Good
3/ Midfield- weak
4/ Attack - Poor
This is just my take on things, consortium need to invest some money on the pitch , especially a couple of attacking mids and a couple of strikers.
If we continue like this on the pitch, what’s the point in investing in the ground. I know a lot of people will say it’s increasing the capacity and facilities.
Who for ? Gates will drop, let’s be honest. Most of the football that’s being served up is boring and lacks little excitement.
I know many of us love the club. But the consortium needs to start making a on field commitment, by that I mean, to use the January transfer window.
I’m grateful for what they have done regarding club debts ect, it’s now time for the directors to dig a little deeper into their pockets.

The proposed investment in the ground is so it can be used to generate revenue more than 20 times per year. Its not match day revenues it's attempting to increase, although that would be welcome to

A tale of 2 goalkeepers, and 2 mistakes which played a big part in us losing this match.

Jeacock - Really poor decision making, you’re better off letting the player play on and shoot rather than obviously handling outside the box. I was hugely disappointed that he postured and refused to leave the pitch for a while, very poor, you ****ed up, own it.

Collin - Took a big step off his line prior to the cross/shot that went in. Much less of an error than Jeacock’s for sure, but predicting where a cross is going prior to it actually being delivered is asking for trouble. It was a shame as I felt other than then he looked far more assured today. With Jeacock suspended it’ll give him another chance to impress and reclaim his place I guess.

Other than that, we probably deserved a draw. I don’t recall Yeovil testing either keeper apart from the goal. I was frustrated late on that we didn’t play the percentages and gain bit a more direct to get the ball in box more, trying to out pass a team with a man advantage seemed foolish.

What are your thoughts on
5/Management,
6/Recruitment?

Given a lot of our fans still seem to dislike the bloke, I’m not surprised by this. He didn’t give much stick back to the West today (sensibly maybe) but he didn’t look happy. He’d love to have scored and nearly did at one point!
Can you blame us after he celebrated us getting relegated to the National League. Took great pleasure in enjoying our struggles. Blokes a ****, plain and simple. Deserves every bit of stick from any Southend fan.

Collin made a good save 2nd half diving low to his left. He also had an easier one to his left that was a deflection. I thought our defence was brilliant again today. Yeovil didn't have many shots considering they were up against ten men.

Ok, that’s one take. I don’t really care what ex players think, Nouble included. He got a lot of stick I remember for missing a chance at was it, Charlton away?! Maybe that’s why.

We've lost 5 of our last six at the hall, what's going on? This needs addressing sooner than soon.
On a positive note, I love the new facilities in the West/ North West corner.
Yeah really liked the new snack bar and the burger was really nice .. even had lettuce in it. Friendly people behind the counter too and tea was cheaper than inside! Good COSU are gradually making these little changes. More than the previous regime managed in 20 odd years, more to come hopefully!!

Ref was lamentable. The red card to Jeacock was the only decision she got right all day. It wasn’t a penalty for the one Maher got sent off for but it wasn’t a corner either. The only thing I’d offer in the ref’s favour was that she was consistent. The slightest contact was awarded a free kick and it ruined the game. What was already a poor game was then made unwatchable by the red card as we then sat back to try and protect the draw and Yeovil had nothing to offer. Eventually a cross flew in but even after that they had nothing.

Maher will have nightmares about that one. His decision to drop Collin has cost us the game. He’s possibly also ruined his keeper’s confidence in doing so. Jeacock’s performance was everything people thought Collin’s was. His distribution was dire, his decision making fatal. It changed the game and turned us from strong favourites into a long shot. Bim looked to have the beating of their defence but once Walker was sacrificed for a keeper he’d beat a man or two but run into a third defender. Had he had a partner to draw away a man I think he’d have scored sooner or later.

It’s hard to read more into the match when it’s 10 v 11 and there wasn’t really any other action to report.
I don’t think Collin is fully fit. He was nursing his leg and seemed to be limping so I think that’s possibly why
