Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Yeovil Town

I think Kev believes our style of play makes us the Man City of the national league, but in reality we are more of an Ipswich type level team.
Same set up every week makes us so predictable and beatable.
Will Kev change the team set up ?, I don’t think so, he’s just too blinkered.
I don’t think the consortium will support Kev indefinitely. They are business men and won’t accept failure. If thing’s don’t improve by the new year a change of management may be forced on them. Football is a results based sport and nobody is guaranteed to see out their contract.
It seems fairly clear that the present coaching set up has taken us as far as they can. Predictable style of play with any individual flair not allowed and stifled by stereotyped moves and patterns of play. We have regressed this season and look set for a fifth year in this awful division. I don't think it's the players fault as on paper we have a squad that should be challenging for promotion. Time for a change, for fresh faces and a more enterprising approach. Supporters deserve better than the current drab fare.

I agree with this but assume you will be lynched by the footballing hipsters lurking on here...

I agree with you for the most part. I still hope, maybe forlornly, that Maher and his crew are learning. It appears slowly if at all. Fingers crossed we can keep the three amigos and find success. That would be my preferred scenario. Clearly though, Maher will have to change tack.

There have been a host of mitigating circumstances that have hampered progress. That is indisputable. The fact remains, the team we put out is capable of more than it produces and for my money it is the set up that's wrong. Change or be the change. The option is that limited and that simple.

I’m

great fan of RHB but where are the signs that we are improving? That we’ve lost only five of the last six at home, rather than all six?
So where do I see improvement @barton west? I'll start with Eastleigh - FA Cup - Clean sheet. Rochdale away - League - Clean sheet. Aldershot away -League - Clean sheet. Tamworth home - Clean sheet and two goals. Charlton - FA Cup - we scored 3 goals (and conceded 4!). and yesterday we came perilously close to keeping another clean sheet despite having a prat for a keeper. So defensively we have improved a fair bit and all decent teams need the base of a solid defence.

It’s a shame these days that everyone has to fall into a ‘for’ or ‘against’ camp and you can’t just say you want Maher to succeed but these are genuine concerns .. soon as you voice a concern it’s like you want Maher sacked. Obviously we aren’t doing everything right else we’d be at the top of the league.

No chance we'll see any more midfielders coming in this season. We already have 6 central midfielders in Husin, KAF, Miley, Coker, Morton and Moncur.

I think Kev has been scarred somewhat by the way we shipped goals following the introduction of Moncur into the starting line up. The current central 3 (plus Miley) give him the reassurance that we will remain solid and keep our shape.
I don't see Moncur starting many more games for us even when fully fit.

We're crying out for pace on the flanks. Someone to challenge Jack Bridge is a must.

In terms of up front, I'm assuming we're monitoring Adarkwa currently and will make our move once he proves his fitness. He's been back on The Wealdstone bench for the past couple of weeks.
We could cancel moncurs loan, would anyone be that gutted?

I am all for women refereeing in the mens’s game if they are competent. But why are men not allowed/chosen for the women’s game? I would have thought in our enlightened age of equality, that should be consistent?

Absolutely this!

I’d love Maher and co to succeed more than anything else, but I am concerned with our progress. We have a good squad, but every now and then we flatter to deceive.

Yesterday was a result of a stupid moment of madness from our keeper that wrecked the game and a fluke of a goal. However, the decisions on tactics, the choice of replacement, the lateness of subs to mix things up fall down to Maher and the team.

I’d love it to work out and will be happy to be proved wrong, but we will not get promoted under Maher. I am not in the Maher Out brigade, just don’t think we will go up. We might come close but just cannot see it. I don’t know who is the option or what the answer is, just don’t think it will happen under Maher. Purely my opinion and like I said happy to be proved wrong and would love nothing more for Kev to be the one to take us back up.

I'd love Maher to succeed but to do so would require playing forwards with intent. We're in November and we've got about as much cutting edge as a spoon ffs.

If you won the league on ball retention in your own final third, we'd already be champions.

Pay is less in womens game and there are still vacancies in the higher paying mens game maybe? (this is a guess)

Well, I would argue that promotion is a distinct possibility under the Three Amigos. It could have happened last season. Without the points deduction we'd have finished top seven, and then it's a question of putting together a three-match winning streak.

Yes, we're struggling a bit at the moment. Form comes and goes. We've had plenty of constraints on us until recently. I would say be careful what you wish for. Do we want to return to chopping and changing between journeyman and novice managers every other season or so? I, for one, do not.

100 percent agree with this I’m not Maher out yet but if he isn’t going to get us out the league eventually he’ll get the sack so why not do it now and get new management for next season to have a proper go next year

Agreed, we attack plenty but with no intent. Like players are scared to take a shot and forfeit possession. Proved against Charlton when we scored 2 via deflections that we just have to ****ING SHOOT sometimes :Hilarious:
