Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Yeovil Town

Any truth in what he says about us not providing stuff?
Mark Cooper is known for being economical with the truth at the best of times. Ignore, I would say.

Yeovil are clearly a club who have had hard times, almost as hard as us, in recent years. They came for a 0-0 and got a 1-0. We need to toughen up. So often teams come here for a draw and end up winning. It has got to stop.

Home team being required to provide food to visiting team is a new one to me. Just had a look and I can't find it in the NL rules or FA rules. Can anyone else find any mention of it? As for the ticket that could be a failure in email communication or simply we didn't want to give out a free ticket to an FA Cup game

I'm (not at all) shocked the Moncur thing isn't working. Never came back out to warm up second half and never got on the pitch even when chasing a game.

If Bonne scores 5 goals this season I'd be astounded. Doesn't look like he wants to be here and I genuinely don't see what he adds to the team (not sure that new goatee thing counts)
I’m glad others have picked up on this - we had a perfect club structure finding lower league talent and building it up - signing two have-been’s from the football league has not worked for us and on reflection were probably reactionary signings to our striker crisis at the time.. wouldn’t mind seeing the back of them and instead give up-and-coming players the chance who would give everything to this club.

As always a red card changes the game in terms.of competitiveness ie 11v11
Maher getting sent off irrelevant imo
Another week, same football. Side to side lacking in attacking focus expecting 2 strikers to pull a goal out of a hat.
More defensive players than attackers as usual and subs that are reactive
Charlton was great but all goals were deflections.
Our best hope in this game a penalty shout.
About sums it up
I'll repeat my view, Maher will not take us out of this league
I'm bored

And before we signed them some were complaining we were only looking at inexperienced part timers. Can't win unfortunately, they took a punt, hasn't worked out (yet?)

I think that we are below halfway in the league for several reasons.
1/ Goalkeepers- fair
2/ Defence- Good
3/ Midfield- weak
4/ Attack - Poor
This is just my take on things, consortium need to invest some money on the pitch , especially a couple of attacking mids and a couple of strikers.
If we continue like this on the pitch, what’s the point in investing in the ground. I know a lot of people will say it’s increasing the capacity and facilities.
Who for ? Gates will drop, let’s be honest. Most of the football that’s being served up is boring and lacks little excitement.
I know many of us love the club. But the consortium needs to start making a on field commitment, by that I mean, to use the January transfer window.
I’m grateful for what they have done regarding club debts ect, it’s now time for the directors to dig a little deeper into their pockets.
No chance we'll see any more midfielders coming in this season. We already have 6 central midfielders in Husin, KAF, Miley, Coker, Morton and Moncur.

I think Kev has been scarred somewhat by the way we shipped goals following the introduction of Moncur into the starting line up. The current central 3 (plus Miley) give him the reassurance that we will remain solid and keep our shape.
I don't see Moncur starting many more games for us even when fully fit.

We're crying out for pace on the flanks. Someone to challenge Jack Bridge is a must.

In terms of up front, I'm assuming we're monitoring Adarkwa currently and will make our move once he proves his fitness. He's been back on The Wealdstone bench for the past couple of weeks.

At a risk of upsetting Cris Powells virtue signalling Mate.....The 4th official certainly didn't help the ref by acting like an overbearing dad calling his daughter over to tell her what decision to make. Looked like the 4th official also jumped up on the pedestal to make it all about him.

Are there differences in how a female and man would ref the same game.... I''l let you decide. Apparently Kev got sent off for something he said 5 years ago.

Can we just sign a keeper that gives me confidence?

Also, absolutely agree with most we need to be more direct all this ****ing about outside the box. Grab it be the scruff of the neck. Playing pretty won't get us out of this league

I would say without hesitation that neither Moncur or Bonne would have been signed but for the Embargo. Whether we have a get out clause in the case of Moncur, only time will tell.

Maybe we need a bit of a reality check on here. We went down to 10 men following Zac's sending off and up until that point it was pretty much even stevens between the two teams. When you go down to 10 men it gets just gets quite a bit harder to play against 11 men (fact). We had to sacrifice a forward, and apart from the Yeovil goal, we defended pretty well. Did the ref affect the game? yes, but not because of her gender, more because she ref'd the game in such a way that the normal rough and tumble of the NL was not allowed, which in turn affected the game as a whole in terms of it flowing.

I just don't understand why the Maher out brigade jump on situations like yesterday to demand his removal, unless it's the only time they can find an opportunity to bitch. We are not the world beaters that everybody wants us to be, but we are improving, and it would not surprise me if we make the play-offs come the end of the season. On to Altrincham.

I had good view of the goal from the Greens. It was not a fluke, he meant it. Gus and Olie gave him far to much space to take couple of touches, get in range and look up. If its one v one then a right back might be forgiven for not wanting to dive in but we had two players and neither closed him down. This has happened to our cost on several occasions this season. The first Charlton goal, same at Barnet. The winner for Fylde etc.

Equally for the goal we were way to deep. Almost on our 6yd line so Collin has to take the man on the front post into account with his positioning. Either way what a TV screen never shows is the real curve an dip on shots like that. It was well executed and Collin had no chance.

The big disappointment for me was our fear factor when down to ten and Kev in the stands. The worst bit was 10 mins before half time. Yeovil worked hard to still get 10 men behind the ball. We would commit no more than 4 or 5 on attacks that would alway fail with that ratio.

I was hoping we might step up and attack with some purpose and be more direct in the second half. At times we had our 3 CB's and just the Southend reject to mark. Not testing their keeper once in 90 mins is embarrassing. 10 men, snide grass of a 4th official and female refs are no excuse.
