Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Yeovil Town

Game wasn’t great but thought we shaded it even with 10.. thought they was really poor to be honest creating very little (same for us) and only scored with a miss hit cross.

From where I sat the red seemed harsh, and others have said the ref played advantage so seems odd to let them have and miss the shot then let them have the free kick and a red card?

Some saying the ref was no worse than others we’ve had since being NL, but I’d have to disagree, the standard of officiating today was the worst I’ve seen, might have got a bit more right if the ref ventured more than 3 paces out side of the centre circle. Was practically marking Morton 90% of the game!

Collin made a good save 2nd half diving low to his left. He also had an easier one to his left that was a deflection. I thought our defence was brilliant again today. Yeovil didn't have many shots considering they were up against ten men.
I’m not sure I’d class either Yeovil chance you mention as a shot, more decent balls into the box that he claimed well. Other than the goal, I felt Collin looked assured. I also agree that our defence looked very good overall, we just need to add more attacking threat to get back to competing towards the top half IMO.

Agree with a lot of the comments in this thread. Yes the game was ruined by the red card, but we were still quite poor, given how little Yeovil had of the play in our half.

We consistently struggle to create good chances or have shots on goal - but nothing ever seems to change. We play the same system with negative tactics, even when there’s a clear chance to get back in the game.

We wait until going 1-0 down before making a sub week in and week out, yet don’t learn from this. Watching the amateur management of the substitutions today when Bentley was trying to speak to Maher over the non-working walkie talkie msssively slowed down the much needed changes. Surely Bentley/Currie can make decisions like this when Maher’s been banished to the stands rather than flapping and delaying the subs, which is what happened today… just pretty poor all round. We need to make some changes both in personnel and tactics if we’re ever going to take a chance to get out of this league.

From where I sat the red seemed harsh,
He handled the ball outside his area. It gas to be a red!
The only thing she did incorrectly was that she should not have bought it back for a free kick once she played the advantage. Although I may be incorrect with that assumption.

I don’t think that’s right. The advantage law/rule suggests that having played the advantage which they fluffed, it should then be a yellow for unsporting behaviour. 🤷🏼‍♂️

YEOVIL Town boss Mark Cooper feels emotion is being eradicated from football.

Cooper led the Glovers to a 1-0 win at Southend United this afternoon.

But the manner of the match and the officiating meant Cooper took little joy from the victory.

“I didn’t enjoy one minute of it,” Cooper told the club’s Twitter account.

“I didn’t enjoy anything about the day and I can’t wait to go and get on the bus.

“I’m so pleased with the players and they’re an incredible set of players but for me the emotion is going out of the game, you’re not allowed to sneeze!

“The position the FA are putting the officials in, they have nowhere to go.

“It’s taking the soul and emotion out of the game for me.

I'm (not at all) shocked the Moncur thing isn't working. Never came back out to warm up second half and never got on the pitch even when chasing a game.
Can't fathom this out?. 1st couple of games many were saying he was the missing link in midfield?. Johnny Stokes posts about him were dismissed, and unless still partially injured he doesn't get any time on the pitch?.
So what is the purpose of having him for the season?. Will he play against a certain type of opposition which he will excel against, or will we say goodbye in January?.

Carrying a hip problem

It's a fitness thing T. He's had a troublesome groin, and possibly a hip problem. He's ready to come on as sub if needed. But they probably don't want to risk it until he's 100%.

The referee didn't cover herself in glory today with some strange decisions, and at times I thought she nearly lost control of the game. That said I thought it was disappointing that she took a hammering on here from some just because she was female, as I have seen just as bad performances from male referees in this league without them being rinsed for being male. She didn't make Jeacock get himself sent off and she didn't magic up the Yeovil cross that became a shot. Probably better to judge someone on how they did, rather than what sex they are.

Walked out today feeling like i've not enjoyed that at all, these players throwing themselves down is so tedious and its so constant in this division.
Still dismayed that we cannot manage a central midfielder to get a shot off the whole game and disappointed not to see KAF starting in a very defensive midfield. I agree with RHB its time to give Noor a rest. We simply have to start shooting from midfield, i mean its unbelievable a team that doesnt.

Gutted to lose to Yeovil who offered zero, after watching possibly the worst Southend side in our history go down to them at their place in the FA cup last year. The saving grace driving away from that game last year was how proud of the effort the boys put in and hoping Yeovil would be promoted so we could smash them at Roots Hall if so, if we still had a club to support.

Still early days for this rebuilt squad, i literally spent all morning dodging traffic in London around the Lord Mayors Show to make it back in time, only to watch a very disappointing game of football. Funniest thing though, actually managed to find a team that created as much as us. Think i'll give the return fixture a miss !
Onto Alty.

Ref was lamentable. The red card to Jeacock was the only decision she got right all day. It wasn’t a penalty for the one Maher got sent off for but it wasn’t a corner either. The only thing I’d offer in the ref’s favour was that she was consistent. The slightest contact was awarded a free kick and it ruined the game. What was already a poor game was then made unwatchable by the red card as we then sat back to try and protect the draw and Yeovil had nothing to offer. Eventually a cross flew in but even after that they had nothing.

Maher will have nightmares about that one. His decision to drop Collin has cost us the game. He’s possibly also ruined his keeper’s confidence in doing so. Jeacock’s performance was everything people thought Collin’s was. His distribution was dire, his decision making fatal. It changed the game and turned us from strong favourites into a long shot. Bim looked to have the beating of their defence but once Walker was sacrificed for a keeper he’d beat a man or two but run into a third defender. Had he had a partner to draw away a man I think he’d have scored sooner or later.

It’s hard to read more into the match when it’s 10 v 11 and there wasn’t really any other action to report.
Maybe the keepers are not the problem

Ref killed the game, terrible performance from her.

We play like a higher division team, probably why we did so well against Charlton, but we need to be far more direct in this division.

Players did OK, no one really stood out apart from Taylor. Fluke of a goal to win it - we move on
The ref didn't kill the game. Us failing to deal with a simple ball down the middle killed the game
