Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Sittingbourne Town

Can't blame Maher - are you joking!!

Takes a forward off for a midfielder just shows his defensive mindset. Why not take a defender off, and bring Coker on 😡

No I absolutely ain't joking!

If the players think all you have to do is turn up and a win's a given once they are on the pitch then they delivered the result for the effort they put in.

He put on Bonne and Waldron, at Least Maher was keeping an eye on possible penalties, as they have both been penalty takers in their careers. Don't know if the other subs were made with penalties in mind either, but at 0-0 it's not the time to go gung ho, when we should have had enough to break them down,

Lastly, Bonne not clearing the ball first time, in the last minute is criminal! that denied us even having the chance to take it to penalties, so we won't even know if the subs were made with pens in mind for sure now.

Poor performance in the extreme, for which I hold the players responsible for not delivering, as they should have been more than capable of doing.

I can’t think of one player that came out of that game with any credit.

All three CB’s were so slow and struggled to even muster a pass that didn’t go backwards, even a sideways pass was beyond their abilities. Taylor really enjoyed getting the ball, touching it 5-6 times and then turning it around and passing back to the keeper.

Morton’s passing was terrible, so was KAF’s, although at least he drove forward at times and had a shot.

Out of all the goalkeepers in the league that are second or third choice and we pick up one that doesn’t know how to kick a football. Our recruitment has been shocking all season, hopefully the new players that have come in recently can buck that trend.

These players are quickly becoming one of the most unlikeable teams that I’ve ever seen play for Southend and that’s saying something with some of the **** that’s been produced at Roots Hall before.

Anyway looking forward to the next step forward before we inevitably take two steps back again the week later.

Can't blame Maher for that, the team he put out should have won that with a bit to spare.

The players should hang their head in shame for that performance.
Agreed. Right from the first minute when Taylor put his foot in the ball, jogged forward 5 yards and urned the ball backwards only for the ball to be passed back to him you felt that they did not have the required intensity. That was no where near good enough. Summed up by a player in extra time trying something fancy in his own 6 years box. They really should hang their heads in shame.

Maher picks the team and tactics so takes the blame.!! It’s not just this game it’s every game, plays so slow and sideways and backwards.! We need a manager who knows the art of game management. Like maxwell at Sittingbourne. Everyone thought we would roll them over and I knew they were a decent team who do their jobs well. Maher has to go after this.!

Ah yes, getting to penalties against Sittingbourne would have been an excellent achievement and would have had clubs knocking on Maher's door. Forgive me if I expected better than 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Also, it obviously wasn't Maher that kept 5 defenders on the pitch at 0-0, and decided we had too many forwards on - must have been someone else that made that sub.

Horrible performances from pretty much every player in blue. KAF as MOM? Please. Gubbins wouldn’t get in the Sittingbourne lineup. Gus turned up and thought that was enough. Goodliffe was beaten in the air again and again. Morton couldn’t pass water. Kendall/Hopper guilty of missing gilt edged chances.
I don't think any of our current starting eleven would
