Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Sittingbourne Town

Bonne was at fault for the goal as he knows but it was something of a freak ricochet because he didn’t just put his foot through the ball as soon as he could. They should’ve never been in that position in the first place as we were far too soft in midfield and wasteful upfront and for all the talk of sittingbourne being an excellent team and unbeaten in forever, I actually thought they offered very little which is even more shaming on us not being able to put them to the sword.

After back to back wins coupled with good performances, I allowed myself to be fooled in to thinking things could be heading back in the direction. Then, this bunch of dislikable mob go and put in a performance like that and get dumped out of a cup we are more than capable of winning. It's just yet another reminder as to why I will never fully be behind this group of players or manager. I'm embarrassed to be a blue today.

Thing's go right, it's all Kev's fault. Thing's go embarrassingly wrong.. none of it's Kev's fault. Right?
Not at all, I was in the Kev out a few weeks ago playing 5-3-2 and accruing 1 maybe two shots on target during a game.

But today, the players he put out, should have had enough in the tank to put us through in this tie. We had enough pressure and corners to have forced a result.

On days like this when the players don't perform it's them I hold accountable.

If I was Maher, I'd have the whole sorry bunch of them on the beach on a Phil Brown run tomorrow morning.

I can only remember their keeper making one save of any meaning.

On a day when they can't score, you have to make sure you don't concede and in the last minute Bonne puts his foot through the ball, or should have done. I hope he goes in the summer.

Gubbins just lives up to his name and is really disappointing.

I hope GUS isn't out for too long, but at least we'll see what Wind has to offer.

Disappointing all round and one the players should not be allowed to forget for a very long time!

What a disgrace. From the minute our club decided to open our unopenable West Stand to away fans, this game had farce written all over it. And so it came to pass.

Horrible performances from pretty much every player in blue. KAF as MOM? Please. Gubbins wouldn’t get in the Sittingbourne lineup. Gus turned up and thought that was enough. Goodliffe was beaten in the air again and again. Morton couldn’t pass water. Kendall/Hopper guilty of missing gilt edged chances.

Bonne will get the pelters - and I can’t blame people for that - but we failed long before that moment.

Maher should hang his head in shame after that too. I thought the lineup was wrong, the formation was wrong & the subs were wrong.

Have we ever, ever lost a competitive game to a team this low before? Take nothing away from Sittingbourne. The team of butchers, bakers and candlestick makers deserve their celebrations tonight. Go well lads.

As for Southend, you have been embarrassed today, which of course is bad enough, but you have embarrassed us too. We won’t stand for it.

Shape the **** up, or ship the **** out.

As long as the club think it’s acceptable to have a retired goalkeeper coach and a Wealdstone reject as a short-term loan as goalkeepers while putting away fans in the west stand, we can’t expect much more. Says it all about COSU’s priorities this season.
