Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-1 Sittingbourne Town

Something else I meant to mention, I wasn't happy with Goodliffe screaming at a distraught Bonne after we conceded that goal. Guy was absolutely beside himself at what had happened. Good on Nathan Ralph though, for running back to Bonne, helping him up and giving him a few words of encouragement.
Don’t be happy about it. Who cares. Loser mentality. Goodliffes a winner.

Absolutely, his interviews are tetchy and sulky. Don't want to go on about Cowley but his interviews you can just hear that he cares and wants changes if not going to plan....such a difference!
I also think that he gets a very easy ride from the interviewers. He continually gets asked such lame questions. I’m not saying put pressure on him but the interviewers , like the crowd, must be seeing some of the things that are not going well and as such should ask more searching questions of him

Very hypocritical imo. Reading the messages on here week in week out is exactly the same as the thing's you're saying ruins team moral and destrys confidence so how do we expect them perform 🤷‍♂️
How are fans slagging players off on here anywhere near the same as Maher publicly blaming them?

Or is he a destroyer of team spirit - who knows?
Unfortunately in the age of social media, everyone who buys a ticket has a right to be abusive, a player needs to have the right head on him as well as ability, and the strength to stand up to criticism from wherever it comes. We seem to have a squad with ability but not the mental strength to play to that ability week in week out. We don't have winners we have nice blokes.

Can they not read or hear the reaction they get from the same people voicing on here abd who watch them then berate them thus knocking their confidence more? Very public to me.

I think your post is slightly in jest but there is fans code of conduct and ticket terms and conditions that should deal with this.

Agree that players and mgmt need a bloody thick skin though. Said it before nobody deserves the level of abuse some footballers get at their place of work.

part of the game surely, if you can lap up the plaudits you should expect to be berated if you dont perform.

If you cant handle that get a different job that isnt in the public eye and is less stressful.

I get that modern society (on the face of it) wants everyone to be lovely and talk about feelings, not be 'mean' etc. But i hope this doesnt completely ruin the live football experience.

I'm saying there was slim pickings bearing in mind the embargo and budget.
I'm saying none of the above would have been first picks in an even-handed world.
I'm saying he had to make up the numbers somehow, and you fail to mention the Pepple loan which was an undoubted success.
I don't want to sound a KM apologist, but he had to punt on someone.
Might you concede the side were up for it against Daggers before illness yesterday also played a part?
At what point do we stop using the embargo as an excuse for poor recruitment?

I wish my post was in jest HJ. Nobody deserves the abuse chucked around in every direction. Teachers, Doctors, Politicians, Light entertainment performers, Footballers, Managers and Coaches, everyone. As you say, you need a bloody thick skin and I don't think enough of our guys have it or the will to win.

Agree to an extent but surely berating players has to have some constructiveness to what is said not just outright abuse.
We all want them to be more confident and improve but think this current approach has the adverse effect. A vicious cycle.

Its hardly susprising tho given the last decade we've had, and being non league etc etc,

Tbh i think even when our fans are ****ed off they are pretty mild compared to other clubs...

As said i do agree with a lot you say and couldn't agree more that things have not been good and the fans at home and those who travel relentlessly deserve so much better on and off the pitch but from the old skool of thought that never left a game before the full-time whistle no matter the score or boo ones team i just find some of the abuse hard to accept at times. 🤷‍♂️

If Goodliffe did give Bonne both barrels then maybe that’s what we need. Sometimes you need people who come in and question the quality of everyone around them. That’s what we need - leaders on the pitch. That decision from Bonne was the poor quality.
I agree. I do think as a team we’re too ‘nice’, Ralph seems a great bloke, and is a consistent performer, but I’m still not convinced he’s really captain material. The fact his first thought was to console Bonne, rather than being ****ed off at his error, sums this up for me.

We needed someone yesterday to fire a rocket up certain players backsides for underperforming, if Goodliffe can do this, fantastic. Ralph certainly can’t. You don’t win football matches by being a team of ‘Mr nice guys’, unfortunately.
