Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Woking

How about experiment with using different players and tactics so we can maybe have a plan B next year 🤔
The impression I got was that we did experiment today, and that's partly why it was so crap. We sat deep and played very directly (usually straight to a defender) instead of passing it around like we usually do.

Both teams seemed to be "afraid to lose" which summed it up for me when we took off a striker and put on a midfielder.

Vanarama National League Round Up

So what happened in the National League today?

Chesterfield made certain of automatic promotion.

Boreham Wood slipped into the relegation zone.

York City gained a vital three points at Bromley.

Barnet scored six to thrash Dorking.

AFC Fylde continued their impressive progress up the table with victory over Oxford City.

Phil Brown's Kidderminster, dead and buried a few months ago, inch further towards survival with a draw at Wealdstone.

At Roots Hall Southend United played Woking. 7,251 attended. Nothing of any consequence happened. Nothing at all.
Did Oxford City get relegated today?

much the same as already said. Looked and felt like a dead rubber, played like a dead rubber. Must be a dead rubber. Seasons finished now and if the guys don’t have it in the tank to win these types of games then back the draw under 2.5 goals at the bookies and you should be alright.

Neither team could string 4 passes together, neither team could get a shot off, neither team could have walked in a straight line if asked today.

Bring on summer, few signings, proper pre season at the new training ground let’s have a proper go next year.

Well what do you say after that. One of many dreadful games I’ve witnessed in March over the years. What you get when it’s windy and the top of the pitch is drying off and bumpy. Inevitably a game of poor quality.

What you shouldn’t get is a game of rugby. The game was so full of arm tugging, shirt pulling, wrestling, petty fouling, pushing shoving and professional fouling from both sides.

After the first half I thought that maybe Woking had reformed but boy didn’t they make up for it in the second. Sadly we were almost as bad and of course we got the yellows

So a mid table game with little to play for and there was little football.

I thought Noor had a decent game in the first half digging us out of trouble a few times and looking to try and create. But we got caught in possession so often dithering on the ball and misplaced so many passes.

Adam Crowther was as bad in this game as as good he has been last month without Kensdale playing where Kensdale played. Perhaps rhey can’t okay together.

Cav didn’t want to come out of his own half. We never leave anyone - not even one player- up when defending a corner.

I can’t believe some one is giving Collin stick. He kept us in the game yet again. His first clearance in the second half went way too long - wind assisted - so Kev bawled him out - so he then kept playing short to players who couldn’t control the ball.

Ralph was decent as for the rest pretty nondescript. I’ve still waiting to see what Waldron has got to offer.

So the first of 4 games in 10 days done, god knows how they will be come Easter Monday - I dread to think.

Did their keeper make a save today?

That’s me done this season.

From their board;

I thought earlier in the season they were the best team we played whilst under the embargo. Not sure what going on there but not moved forwards by the looks. Robinson benched by boring wood today, still got stuffed and bang in trouble for anyone thinking we should of kept him

What can you say about that performance? Probably best to say nothing.
Most predictable “positive” comment from Kev on BBC Essex? 10 games unbeaten
Most amusing highlights? 1) Seeing six separate Woking fans being thrown out. What exactly did they find to get worked up about?
2) Crowd figure given as over 7,200. You are having a laugh. Never seen so many empty seats in the West Stand. No more than 5,500.

Dead rubber, knackered players, nearly holiday time. We’re safe, players will be wanting to avoid late season injury and book their trip to a Greek island like the rest of us. In my opinion, these chaps have done exactly what they needed this season and they have plenty of credit in the bank.

Now, with a good rest, full pre season and a couple of signings, there will be no place to hide and no excuses in the first ten matches of next seasons. That’s when we need to judge them.

A quick summary of the highlights:

Right..... that's that done. Both teams were poor but another point, another clean sheet and another game unbeaten. PS I swear some of the players who went down injured were TRYING to get themselves taken out of that dire game. As for the 6 mins extra time, what did the crowd do to upset the ref?!?

What a shocking game of football, definitely one to forget.

I must just comment on Colin continually passing to defenders and putting them in immediate trouble, his decision making is woeful and he doesn't seem to learn while his shot stopping (don't think he had any today) is getting better all the time.

I really hope Waldron has a good pre season and kicks on. From the evidence of today he has some way to go.

Not good enough, 10 games unbeaten what a load of bollocks new signings bang average getting bullied by Woking … lots of changes needed in the summer if we’re to be up there next year. Players been a **** since Christmas. sign new contracts and there on the beach but never mind at least boywonder can tell us how good the new players are

Least said about today the better. The only positive is we are 10 games unbeaten and a clean sheet after complete dross by both sides.Oh the officials weren't bad

For those of you old enough that was like watching Germany v Austria in Spain 82.

When we had those 3 shocking seasons that ended with us relegated to the NL I said we were like a boxer without a punch. Now we look like boxer who wont throw a punch. Not sure whats worse

Plus we need to cut out the long season and small squad excuses. If all of us hide behind that then we have no chance of a top 5 finish next season. Everyone needs to stand up and be honest. Not pin their hopes on a 20 a season man to solve our problems.
