Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Woking

Not sure where to start.
Is it the formation or is it the personnel?

A bit of both I think.

Formation wise, we’re so predictable. Teams have all week to prepare knowing we will just keep doing the same things. Again and again and again. It has to change. We need a plan a, b and c. Woking looked so comfortable.

Personnel wise I have to say that our midfield is just not good enough in this formation.
We are far too ponderous, lacking in imagination, and drive.
It’s turgid to watch, and it’s been like this for weeks and weeks.
5 draws in six games - with 3 of those at home against teams we should be beating, against teams with supposedly less quality.

I have real sympathy for Cardwell and Waldron, nothing to feed on. Zilch.

Urgh.

Dull, Dull, Dull. Worst game of the season IMO.

We looked dead on our feet and the passing Oh dear yes we forgot how to pass to our own players. Nothing up top and we could not score in a Brothel.

I feel sorry for the 7000 fans who watched that rubbish.
Show some respect 10 games unbeaten that’s promotion form

Thought Oxford was bad, Hartlepool just slightly better but that today was one of the worst 0-0 I’ve seen in 988 games. We look knackered and on our last legs. I’m not saying they weren’t trying as the work rate was ok but our decision making and quality on the ball was dreadful. Felt sorry for Waldron and Cardwell who were fed long hopeful balls all afternoon. Wes was so off the pace he might as well of not bothered. Defence looked ok and kept another clean sheet but Wokings few chances came from our mistakes. Most entertaining part was watching Wokings fans get ejected. Most looked about 15, apparently were breaking seats is what I heard.

So not great but let’s just take a step back and remember what this group have done for this club this season. They deserve huge credit and thanks but it I think it’s finally starting to catch up with them all. I will be at Solihull Tuesday with no doubt a couple of hundred. Going to have to dig deep against a side going for playoffs.

Think your right. These players are poss exhausted at fighting a losing battle or winning battle to keep us afloat.

A dreadful game of football.

We were under par and Woking were one of those awful spoiling teams. Cheating, time wasting, feigning injury. The lot. Only one of the top trumps they didn’t tick was fake keeper injury. As usual the ref did not get to grips with them.

Thought our players looked very tired. Quite a few were anonymous. Noor, Kensdale and Collin leave with some credit but the rest looked off pace.

It’s another point. It’s another unbeaten game. We should be all but safe now. But more importantly we are still a football club and we can build and go again next season. Keep the faith.

Dead rubber, knackered players, nearly holiday time. We’re safe, players will be wanting to avoid late season injury and book their trip to a Greek island like the rest of us. In my opinion, these chaps have done exactly what they needed this season and they have plenty of credit in the bank.

Now, with a good rest, full pre season and a couple of signings, there will be no place to hide and no excuses in the first ten matches of next seasons. That’s when we need to judge them.
I think it will take more than a couple of signings

Agree with all of that, bar the attendance comment. We’ve shown for over a decade that we have a very loyal fanbase who will always turn up for games.
Yes quite unfathomable really. Especially being sodding non league. I have too many memories of the dark old days playing in front of 3-4k no buzz whatsover. A season of dire nil nils would def shave off at least 1k tho imo.

That would be the case if half the team weren't new faces.

I worry that Kev will say he has what he needs for next season and wants to stay loyal etc. I get some are on long contracts but we need some improvements in key areas. If not, we aren't going anywhere.

This club and fan base should be challenging for the title.

Thought there was much more to it today than a bad performance.
The swirling wind and hard bobbly pitch ruined any chance of flowing football, coupled with wokings main tactic of making it a WWF competition instead of football.
Unfortunately, I felt their stronger spoiling tactics highlighted our weak physical presence in certain parts .... Fonguck, wood, miley, waldren, bridge, I felt aren't strong enough or streetwise enough to hold off players sufficiently against sides like this.
Not the end of the world but certainly a poor watch for fans. Against more footballing opposition we will look better.

It was like a last game of the season, with nothing to play for. One of those that could have been 0-0 after 300 minutes. The passing was the worst of the season. The strikers had zero service, and Crowther probably had the worst game he's ever played. Oh well, at least we didn't lose, and we move on to Tuesday.

I really hope Waldron has a good pre season and kicks on. From the evidence of today he has some way to go.
I'm not sold on Waldron yet. He was a goal machine at Rushall Olympic but not sure how much the step up is from NLN to NL but I've not seen much to think he will cut it as yet. Hopefully a full pre season will help but he doesn't look particularly quick so hoping he will be a fox in the box

Today Colin, JD, Kensdale, Ralph, Bridge, Husin, Miley, Wes, Cardwell all started
Only Crowther and Waldron are new faces. Think this team deserve some respect and thanks for what theyve achieved this season not being criticised for being off the pace as the season comes to an end. Without the -10 we’d be play off chasers. This summer is a big one fir the club and we must recruit well to complement what we already have

We need two new strikers, some pace in midfield and certainly cover at RWB. We need variety so that Kev can change things if he needs to. For me as good as Waldron and Morton look like they can be they are too similar to what we have and don’t offer variety

Time will tell but I’d expect us to start the season well, with options from the bench maybe the odd change in formation if Kev isn’t too stubborn to do so

Maybe Rushall created chances. We’ve created very little since he has been here. Not like he misses loads. Took his goal well at Maidenhead and was in the right place against Daggers but we’ve really not created many chances for him. He runs the channels well but we don’t look to slide the ball through.
