Some Club Staff Salaries Late/Embargo Chat - now resolved (for now)

So in the time these rumours have been posted on here about staff not being pay {we still have no evidence of this}
We have signed 5 NEW PLAYERS extended the contracts for other players, appointed a NEW HEAD OF FINANCE and taken on NEW ticket office staff
Oh yes and coughed up 2 MILLION for work to start on a new training pitch which is phase one of the new stadium complex does this sound like a club that has got money problems
...SERIOUSLY...
I don't know the ins and outs of the funding for the training ground, but I'd imagine it's fair to assume this hasn't been funded from the club and is tied-up in the whole deal.

Whether all staff have been paid or not, there is no doubting the club still has money problems. We can't even get a partner to take card payments!

Quite easy for the club to partner with a card merchant.

It's another to get one that will release all of the money and not take that big a cut for the privilege based on our industry and past financial records. Most card merchants provide bespoke quotes tailored to the individual client. Their merchant service charges will therefore depend on varying factors which affect the fees that would be charged and when full payment for the transaction is received.

Im afraid that with our 'previous', it means that sometimes third party companies refuse to do business with us any more unless paid up front - which isnt always possible, depending on the size type and amount in question.
Ive already given a recent example of this in a thread, where a player had to pay for his own treatment because the specialist wouldnt do it if he had to wait for southend (not) to pay. :Thumbs up:
Taking people on is one thing...paying them down the line is another.
I believe large building projects like this one are generally funded by interested parties or leveraged against future capital income.
Our problem appears to be everyday cash flow..... as usual.
However, its likely that sometime around october things could develop favourably if RM actually gets some large wonga and manages to attribute it to SUFC appropriately

Basically without the land deal the club, (like many others in football) is a totally unsustainable multi million pound loss making business.

If we truly lived within our means we should be a part time team playing at southchurch park.

Shame as we have a good loyal fanbase.

Nice try Ron

The club advertised a head of medical back in June so from that i'd imagine they received notice of the current Physios intentions to leave then. Notice period may now be up and this the removal of the name from the whos who section of the website

Lets not try and turn a blank missing from a whos who into a conspiracy. Plenty of other forums out there for conspiracy theories

And they’ve just re advertised

Either no takers or the applicant might have felt it wasn't right for them. Hopefully someone will be in place by the start of the season (although with training in full swing you would hope someone should ideally have been in place now)

Late additional item added to agenda for sponsors meeting on Wednesday relates to Budget Setting . It appears that poor budget setting is being blamed for current cash flow problems . We must hope that the new finance supremo can sort all this out . Will update everyone on what happens on Thursday .
I’m afraid the only thing or person that can be blamed for cash flow problems is Ron Martin. He has a great team of people at the club in Tom, John, Stan, Kev, Darren and Mark but he clearly can not afford to keep the club going anymore but won’t ask for the much needed help he needs cos all he cares about is his housing dream at Fossetts. Hope the meeting goes well guys, but don’t believe a word that comes out of Ron’s mouth. The guy is a born bullshitter

Totally agree, I appreciate that the off-season will bring little or no income to the club but we know when that happens, every season and we’re never prepared. It shouldn’t and doesn’t have to be this way (doesn’t seem to be an issue at other clubs with much smaller fan bases and less overall income over the year) and certainly shouldn’t be expected because of the Chairman’s past exploits. I’m not at all having a go at Tom Lawrence, as said, you can assemble a great team but if hands are tied, it’s very difficult for them to have a positive impact.

We can whinge all we like about Ron but the question surely is, what can we as fans do. For me it is to put my hand in my pocket and support the club not Ron, whilst recognising my pockets are not that deep. The dilemma is that this would be criticised as subsidising Ron. I remember years ago the Trust getting flack for loaning the club for something or other. Often the fans can't win. Of course one recourse would be for the sponsors to pay the unpaid wages i e. ring fencing their sponsorship for this and nothing more.

What exactly is the aim of this meeting?

Not true if we didn’t have a chairman that uses our clubs revenues to bank roll his pie dreams we might be half sustainable with our crowds good will and catch meant area .. he charged our club money for consultancy works and survey works for the new stadium .. maybe you do that if you are going to own it, but you don’t use our money to then rent it to us ? That’s like renting a property and the LL saying he’s looking to have an extension built so he can house other families and you ( the tenant) will need to pay for it … 7000 people a week wouldn’t make us a park football team only huge mismanagement and ciphering of club funds will do that ( hence we find ourselves a league away from the semi pro game )

No football team in this country is sustainable, there is too much money in the game.

Football is broken, it's supposed to be a game not a business

True - but not in Southend's case.
Our Chairman is expected to give managers whatever players they want and be immune to financial or cash-flow issues. Do that and he'll be ignored. Fail on either front and he'll be pilloried by fans who expect him to plug all gaps in income to meet their desired expenditure.

Its not just in Southends case, if someone can explain to me just how Barcelona can afford to sign anyone I'll be very grateful

I believe, but I'm not sure, that Spanish clubs get considerable financial support from the city councils in their area.
