SMS Bailey, Clarke and Francis on the list

i'm in shock, avn't been on the os in a while and to go there now and read that nearly every player is on the transfer list is a bit of a surprise.

i do agree with rm that we only want players who want to be here to be playing for the team

Would love to see the atmosphere at training this week.

Training? They're all off round the world on their breaks?

What I would like is some kind of brief interview with Tilly with his reaction. We need something out there to calm the storm that this is going to create amongst fans. Even if it is just to assure us we've got a good chance of getting good replacements. Although I suppose then again one minute all is fine, no panic with Bailey, and the next day we've chucked him on the list.

Even if it is just to assure us we've got a good chance of getting good replacements.

We have seen how hard it is to attract quality players, thats not changed.

Im afraid we dont have a good chance of getting good replacements, its going to be tough to replace the core of the side if those 3 go and I cant see what assurances can be given....

who was it who was saying last week about fielding 7 or 8 of our youths next season... he could be right!!

I've just got back from the pub, having read the SMS and thought I'd had a few too many drinks. It turns out I had, but the news is true!

This is very, very worrying indeed. It was my impression that next season was about tweaking the side, adding quality where needed around a quality group of players that had formed the spine of our team last season.

Only a week or so ago, Francis was saying he was confident of signing a new contract. That hasn't happened and he has instead being transfer listed.
I and many others were saying a couple of days ago how committed Peter Clarke was and how much the defeat at Donny had really hurt him.
Despite stories that Bailey, our player of the season, was not agreeing to a new contract many of us on here and the club were calming things buy saying that he still had another 2 years to run on his contract.

I wish I could remain positive but it is looking very, very bleak now for our squad next season and whatever happens, surely the team spirit is going to be shot to pieces. We need some further clarification from the club soon or all hell is going to break loose and I can't see many players wanting to come here with this putsch having taken place!

The only assurances that can be given are that if you join SUFC then you'll play every week!!! :madman:

I wouldn't bother taking 2 from the top and 4 from anywhere else based on your arithmetic.

Nope, still make that 15 (as you've got Clarke twice) plus two in Gower and Sir Flapalot

clarke, francis and bailey are all put twice because they rejected contracts and are on the list, I suppose it could b writen as 5 released, 7 listed and 1 rejected contract, but the other way is more dramatic and true.

Everybody give it a rest!!!

It is June 5th, players are on holiday. Give it a month for things to become clearer..There is no panic at all. Ron knows what he is doing..There is so much negativity on here about this..lets chill and see what happens, ranting and summising on here is gonna change nothing!!

Seeing as everyone is sticking up for ron and tilly here im going to make a case for the players themselves.

Siging long term contracts in the lower leagues is almost unheard of. Obviously if you get a player like barrett that is southend through and through then you are going to get some long term deals, but for lower league players it is (and i don't like saying this) all about making money for them. They have a career which won't last any longer than 15 - 20 years and alot of them won't have any skills to do anything when they retire.

I know its horrible that it would happen like this, but it is easy to be loyal to a club when you are being paid £50,000 a week. Im sure alot of the players here are on no more than £1000 - £1500 a week, which when you look in the long term scale of things isn't much in such a short career.

If the only way they are going to be able to make a living out of playing football is to play at the club that wants to pay them the most then fair play to them. If they are tied down to a long term contract it is going to be much harder for them to leave a club and therefore make a living.

Again i don't like saying this, but it is true, and if any of you were offered a job for an extra £1000 a week you wouldn't refuse because you like where you work, thats just ridiculous.

I think it is ridiculous that they have done this and only sends out a message of, if you don't wanna play for us then f*** off. Looks good for potential signings, especially of youngsters that might see us as a stepping stone.
