Echo News Shrimpers boss Maher on Pepple's future with the club

You obviously know everything about Southend united Boy Wonder, why should anyone question your superior knowledge.
Bim had a terrible record before he came here, that was backed up by an ex southend striker I know. We were lucky he started scoring when he came here.
No one is disputing his record before he arrived. If his current form is down to luck, practice, coaching, players around him - who knows, maybe bit of everything. I am reminded of, I think a golfer, who said something like the more I practice the luckier I get.

It was the great Gary Player who coined that phrase and so very very true. Bim has progressed from previous loans because he has grown stronger and now turns defenders with greater frequency and that has been spotted by both Luton and ourselves, his stamina still looks suspect but maybe next year that will also improve, its hard to say with young players, sometimes they just don't improve but the usual bench mark is about 22/23, until then, Luton will decide his best way forward.

If we look at those clubs that have got promoted recently they would have a simple answer to this scenario, they'd pony up and do the deal because that's what gets you up....Good players.
And they cost money......often lots of it.
I'm all for the sensible business approach, long term viability etc etc, however this may hamper getting out of this league for a bit as there will.always be a FGR or Wrexham who will spend a lot.

Nathan Jones said that Bim was a Luton project. Should that really be the case and provided Bim has improved as much as Luton hoped, then we have little chance of getting him permanently at the moment.
COSU are expecting a loss in the region of £2 million this season, so that may temper any thoughts of breaking the bank.

Okay 👍

Bim actually recognised some weaknesses in his game, like his first touch. First few games it was like a trampoline.

He asked some of the coaches for additional work, and he is often the last off the training pitch.

But we definitely got lucky.

That sounds like the exact definition of luck?

Take a punt on a striker who’s only ever scored goals against Mounties and retired ice hockey players ✅

A player with considerable weaknesses like… first touch ✅

But then to find the player actually has drive and ambition to better himself at a club coming out of turmoil ✅

And has the opportunity to play regularly and improve on pitch after the clubs best striker is sold and every other striker is either injured or hasn’t scored in 20 games ✅

But no, it must be that the coaching staff are savants and that you knew all this before he had played a game.

Shrimperzone at its best.... Anyone who has ever played a game three and in should be able to see the qualities and the POTENTIAL of Bim.

He was 22 last week. Lee Barnard was 23/24 when her signed for us and had barley scored goal during several loans before joining.

Claiming that Bim never scored at Grimsby as an 18 year old means we got lucky is utter tosh. The same posters who dismissed him back in August are still desperate to make their wikipedia assessment relevant.

Then we have pile in on Boywonder. Anyone with knowledge, has something worth posting, or defends the manager or any player. Often becomes a target of those that contribute the least. Especially the ones who dish it out but can't taker it.

Man up and enjoy Bim while it lasts.

Great post. Bim looked raw at the start but he also came in to a squad who were lacking match fitness, pre season etc. what is evident is that it’s not luck that he has found form. His alround play has gone up a notch the longer he has been here. Look at the types of goals he has scored, Solihull away, Halifax away, both goals at home Boxing Day. All goals very different. He seems to be loving playing here, playing for Kev. No coincidence therefore that he has improved as the season has progressed. Believe him and Kendall in particular look a decent partnership so hope there is some way he can stay for at least the season. Would be a big loss if he leaves

Coaching or not. We have got lucky. There was no evidence to suggest he’d be a success!

I wasn’t blown away by the signing but was willing to give him a chance and I personally think he has repaid that by so far having a top spell.

I think it’s really important we don’t lose him but if we do I’d rather it happened sooner rather than later, and I hope Luton don’t force something for the sake of it.

Yes. But every signing is a bit of a gamble isn’t it. According to many on here, Bonne and Moncur were way too good (on that same paper as Bim). It didn’t work out - so is that unlucky?

I think the point that is trying to be made is that if people pin poor performers on the scouting team, then don’t say the good performers were luck.

Moreover - I think it was Stan who said once that we shouldn’t pick up kids for their first loan - make sure they’ve been through that AND you know they have a bit about themselves. So maybe there is some thought that went into this

Thank you @rigsby for great post #91 - not everyone agrees, which is what forums are all about, but for most of us we will enjoy watching Bim for however long he is with us. Not sure what some expect to see.
I was referring to GSM. I wouldn’t say 10 goals for a striker half way through a season is sensational.

Cute.

No you are right, I apologise. Can’t praise the three amigos, or give them credit for anything at the moment, it’s not popular.

Its all inspite of them, no ounce of credit should go to them.

I made a prediction, nothing more than that, and posted that as a fan, whereas plenty wanted to write him off before a ball was kicked.

I’d always rather believe a signing will improve the side. I also thought Jeacock would improve our goalkeeping department and he doesn’t appear to have done that.

Lot of very touchy people on here the last few days.

Exactly right. Can’t have it both ways.

Signings work and don’t work for a variety of reasons, and a player can be a big hit because of the coaching, but can also fail to kick on because of the coaching. For example, Crowther doesn’t look anything like the player we signed at the moment, he appears to have gone backwards, as I stated after the Charlton game and got plenty of stick for that too.
