Echo News Shrimpers boss Maher on Pepple's future with the club

There is also the question of what Bim wants, he seems happy here and has pointed out that our crowds are bigger than most in L2.

I'd hate to see him go but I could understand it if he did

Where Bim spends the second half of this season has absolutely nothing to do with Bim.

He has three options:

1) He completes the season here.
2) Luton recall him in January and involve him there.
3) Luton recall him and loan him higher up the food chain.

I’d suggest, in probability, it goes 3, 1 then 2, but Luton have been impressed with him here.

I think they’d probably stick with #1.

He had a few loans before that didn’t work quite so well. It will take him a month or two to fight his way into the starting line up for another team when he’s getting minutes here.

There is reward in getting him out higher up, but I don’t see the risk being worth it. If it were the start of the season - definitely he won’t be coming back

Other than a decent short spell in the Canadian League, we’re the first club he’s really performed at (1 goal in 30 games over three loan spells prior). I’d like to think Bim would be keen on the move, as he seems to have settled well and is obviously in an environment that’s getting the best out of him.

So I think there’s definitely a conversation to be had. It’s a risk for Luton, as if they recall him and loan him to a league club, only for him to sit on the bench and not make much impact for the rest of the season, his stock will have fallen. At the moment, his stock is pretty high, so if we’re prepared to offer them a good fee, a decent sell on percentage, and potentially a buy back clause etc., it could work for all parties.

I think Bim is class, but I still maintain I’ve not seen enough to suggest he’s close to being able to make a good impact in League One this season. And the gap between League Two and NL isn’t exactly massive. So I’d hope at the very least we can keep hold of him on loan for the remainder of the season.

Bim was loaned to Grimsby in early August 2023 just after joining Luton. 5 months later his loan was terminated by Grimsby saying he didnt get as many chances as he would have liked although he made 11 appearances and failed to score
He was then loaned out to Bromley but after just 6 games got recalled by Luton because of lack of game time over a 5 month period

3 weeks later he was off to Inverness Caledonian Thistle until the end of last season and managed 13 games scoring 1 goal

So before us that 3 quick loan moves, none particularly successful, 30 games and one goal !

The point is, the move to us as clearly been the most successful and productive to date for all parties. Surely Luton can see that? I think they would therefore be wise to extend the contract to the end of this season

I dont think we stand a chance of getting him, but ;like others never saw Lopata as us in with a chance However if Bim and Golding leave soon, they were both great loanees , but we could get 5 more in of similar calibre ( just half of what leagues leading teams have managed )

Whilst loan decisions are typically made by the clubs involved, with the primary goal of benefiting both the parent club and the player, players can express their preferences or concerns, and clubs often consider their input when making loan arrangements.

So come on Bim. Speak up son. You know it makes sense. Better to be one of the first names on the team sheet playing in front of 6-8k than possibly warming the bench (if you make it) and playing in front of 3-4k

I am not sure this "playing in front of bigger crowds" argument holds a great deal of water.

I would have thought that playing against better quality opposition (defenders) in the league(s) above would be a factor in a player's development.

"There's no such thing as a bad player ............. just someone who is playing at the wrong level" says my postman.

Can’t see him getting in to Luton’s first team in the Championship, but they might want to put him in the shop window at a L1 or 2 club & increase his sale value 🤷‍♂️

Nobody is saying break the bank but if we can get one or two off the wage bill ie Moncur and Waldron/wood then we could afford a decent wage for him.

That says a lot about our scouting and coaching. Clearly we saw something in him that others couldn't, and were able to help him succeed where others have failed.

I posted the following in the Transfer thread previously so apologies if already read but this is my take on Bim
I along with many would love to see Bim in a Southend shirt on a permanent basis but the reality is whilst in theory it wouldn't be unattainable the practicalities are difficult to ignore.
Luton have Bim under contract with a further option. Now Luton may have already made an assessment that it is unlikely he will become a 1st team squad member in the timescale of his current contract, but equally they will appreciate they have a good potential to still make some financial gain from his time with them rather than leaving on a free. If you like where Bim is concerned for Luton it's a sellers market.
Leaving aside the personal financial aspects that may be required to secure Bim, by any club, not that I believe this aspect is beyond us if COSU deemed fit. You would need to structure a deal that satisfies Luton's outlay on Bim already and make them feel comfortable with a potential windfall from a sell on clause.
The difficulty is for us I believe at this stage of Bim's contract Luton would not entertain an offer less than £150,000, not saying that's what I think he's worth, but the £100,000 that I have seen expressed by some posters whilst arguably realistic I doubt meets Luton's operating module at this time. Also I doubt that the normal pitch of 25 or 30 per cent sell on fee would cut it, more like a 40% rigid stance.
So in the here and now does the intial financial outlay and the prospective reduced 'return' on our own buy to sell for profit module sit with the COSU approach?
I do believe if a deal can be done with Luton which COSU are comfortable with, we wouldn't be disappointed in both the short and long term outcome of Bim becoming a permanent Shrimper.

You have only got to read your posts, stating that you don't mind putting up with our position in the league all because of what we have gone through. I don't want to put up with it, we have had years of Rat not putting any money in, I don't want the new owners to do the same.
Bim was lucky, as his record of only scoring a couple in the Scottish league denotes that.
If we had more bodies, even loanees, we could see if they work or not. We signed Bonne for a year, without knowing what he could do for us, now we are stuck.
