Echo News Shrimpers boss Maher on Pepple's future with the club

10 at this stage in all comps. 6 in the league is it? I personally would not call it sensational. But he is a promising young player who improves the team so would like to keep him of course..
Okay ye in all comps that makes sense, my apologies. I was solely thinking about NL!

That sounds like the exact definition of luck?

Take a punt on a striker who’s only ever scored goals against Mounties and retired ice hockey players ✅

A player with considerable weaknesses like… first touch ✅

But then to find the player actually has drive and ambition to better himself at a club coming out of turmoil ✅

And has the opportunity to play regularly and improve on pitch after the clubs best striker is sold and every other striker is either injured or hasn’t scored in 20 games ✅

But no, it must be that the coaching staff are savants and that you knew all this before he had played a game.

You don't think part of the scouting process is finding out what drives the player?

I'd imagine the scouting and management team already knew about his character and that he would be willing to work on the weaknesses in his game.

You could probably make similar arguments to these as to why any successful signing at this level is ‘lucky’. After all, if a player is signing for a team in the 5th division, there is likely to be doubts about something, whether that’s ability, fitness, attitude, age etc. So what exactly is the point being made?

The management team have identified a player they think they can improve in Pepple, and they have done so. I think there’s a little more to it than blind luck.

As for the highlighted parts, Pepple having a positive attitude isn’t luck, his character is something we will have looked into before making the signing.

On the second highlighted part, Pepple was signed the same day that we sold Cardwell, most likely in response/anticipation of Cardwell leaving. So I’m not sure how that’s luck either.
