Echo News Shrimpers boss Maher on Pepple's future with the club

on topic, I don’t think Pepple will settle or be happy to commit a future to a 5th tier side even IF we could afford him (which we can’t) and Luton were willing to do a deal. A loan is fine but a permanent move for him would show a lack of ambition. As good as his attitude is he will be setting his sights higher than us that’s a certainty.

That kind of financial mismanagement is what got us relegated. What happens if we break the bank and he gets a long term injury?
Siiner or later COSO will have to decide whether or not to allow KM or his successor the players he thinks he needs to get us back in the EFL -If not this season ,then next, IMO.

I imagine it will depend on what he thinks his prospects are in the summer - will Luton trigger the contract extension, are there EFL clubs sniffing around? Otherwise he might think it's better to join us and earn the next move up, 1 step back, 2 steps forwards and all that, to progress

I couldnt disagree more with this statement.

He has had several loan spells and done nothing in any of them.

He is doing very well in this spell but it's the first time in his career he has done so.

He is Lutons player but is a reserve. He has never played for them and there is a high chance he never will. The jump from league 1 to championship is huge so the jump from national league is gargantuan.

Playing football is about wages, ambition and getting game time.

Here, he would get game time, wages and maybe a promotion or two in the next few seasons.

He probably has another 12 years of pro football ahead of him and at his age, getting games is the most important thing.

How many youngsters of 20-23 years old never play a game for a top Premier league side or go out on loan and just end up in part time football.

If he goes back to Luton and sits in the reserves or goes back to Luton and gets loaned to a league side and doesn't play, he will look back and realise its better the devil you know.

No, no, no, a couple of posters have said we were lucky with Bim, nothing to do with scouting, recruiting or coaching.
You do know i am sure that we all have all views on here. "Being in the know" can sometimes be your worst atribute,so let others have their say as they are not so well informed as you are, which i am sure is not a blessing but:

We are a forum for debate after all.

That has nothing to do with being “well informed”, it’s all to do with giving zero credit to the management team, scouting department or COSU for securing the deal. Don’t know why that has to be brought up.

I said I think he’d surprise people, which he has, and I’m delighted I was right. On the flip side, I’ve rated players like Drewe Broughton, so don’t always get things right. None of that has anything to do with what you’re suggesting. How dare I suggest that people should have egg on their faces for their comments…

You have your views , others have theirs, nobody is denying you are well informed, it does not matter a **** to us whether you are right or wrong, but it does not help when you patronise others for having their own opinions, right or wrong, then dance on their grave.

It seems to be an infectious nature at the moment. Taking great pleasure in one upping someone or belittling their posts.

I wasn’t overly excited about Bim signing, happy to be proved wrong and have egg on my face. What isn’t needed is people rubbing it in your face. You can’t get everything right! Otherwise it would be boring.

I said Dan Bentley would play for England, I said Charlie Kelman would be our record transfer. I wasn’t very complimentary about Barry Corr when he signed due to his previous record.

I have also said Kevin Maher will not get us promoted, id love nothing more than to be proved wrong. What I don’t want is a load of people rubbing it in my face or acting all smug. It’s an opinion.

But you brought the whole “well informed” thing into it, which was strange.

As it happens, I didn’t know anything about Bim coming in. His transfer took me by surprise as it did 95% of our fanbase, so no idea why that’s being called upon.

I take it you’ll say the same to the Maher Out people next time we lose a game, or the Maher In next time we win a game?

I’m happy if you want to delete my account, moderate my posts, or whatever.

Thank you! I’ve been getting fed up with the sarcastic responses from one or two ‘ITK’s’ recently, whenever anyone disagrees.

@BoyWonder2 takes issue with a poster saying we got lucky with Pepple and not crediting the coaches. This might be a fair point, but by the same logic are the coaches to blame for the failure of Waldron or Crowther for example? You can’t have it both ways surely?
