You can say 'oh it's only a few flimsy seats' but for me its the general lack of awareness that actions have consequences that is so frustrating. When we doubtless get a reduced allocation next time we play Orient, or we don't get any of the north bank for the home leg, people will wonder why.

My seat was fine and I celebrated the goal like a lunatic.

Ditto. Sadly we now live in a society where respect for others and their belongings has long since vanished

On T.V the stand looked at least 2/3 full. I would'nt mind betting there were 500+ pay on the gate Shrimpers. Are'nt Orient a tiny club given their catchment area. Spose if they wer'nt they would be able to afford seating that could withstand the robust usage of the average away fan......... And on another note if the broken seating was'nt up to being stood upon when we scored, then, is'nt that a health and safety issue ?.......If any Shrimpers were hurt when seats collapsed they could try and sue.
isn't a seat supposed to be sat on? If you injure yourself jumping on a chair the most sensible thing would be not to jump on a chair.

Well they can stay out of Roots Hall, lol. Ive been going for 34 years and have sat in the east stand for many of those and of the loyal group that ive know for a long time, none are west ham fans, so loads may be an exaggeration, a few maybe.

Out of my 6 mates that go to Southend games, 3 of them also support West Ham :stunned:

The 'who cares it's only a few seat backs' attitude doesn't really make any sense. By that token, when walking back from the pub and you decide to trample over a few flowers in someone's garden, they might not cost much but it's still utterly pointless vandalism. It's just respect, plain and simple.

You are kidding? There are still loads of supporters who follow both and this hatred is one way, West Ham fans couldnt give a monkeys about Southend.

So true. I also wonder where this Orient hatred comes from. How can we hate a little lower-league club, especially one on the fringes of London. Their fans could get a bus to any number of big clubs, but they stick with their local one. If they live in Essex, even better. I haven't lived in Essex for twenty-five years and still have a season ticket, and I respect others who travel to games. That's why I found the 'We hate Orient' song so cringeworthy. As they said, we only have one song, and it's one based on an irrational hatred.

So, the discomfort of the Old Testament vengeance chants on Saturday, and now a travelling army of seat-smashing haters. I'm exaggerating, but that's the common language on here. It would be silly to think that smashing up seats doesn't tarnish our image and ensure that the Policing is heavy-handed at every away game.

I'm aware that I've become all grown-up, and that I sound like 'angry of Tunbridge Wells' (I don't live in Tunbridge Wells) so I'll sign off with an assurance that I am still screamingly immature. Additionally, I truly believe that the entire population of Colchester is intellectually and socially deficient. They also smell of poo.

This is my first post but i had to say something i actually cringe at this, an entire thread on broken seats. It's rubbish like this which whip up a storm out of nothing, whats next southend fans drop litter somewhwere in london hang them all.Get a grip people.

I do wonder if people ever say outloud some of the rubbish they say on here 'it's taken the shine off of the evening' well it certainly hasn't mine. Did you get beat up last night or mugged or hit by a car those are all good reasons for having the evening ruined but a few seats get a grip, if that is the biggest thing you sit at home worrying about you have it very lucky.

No, but I had my briefcase stolen while I was watching the game in a pub. It'll cost me over 50 quid to replace teaching materials, cd's/DVD-rom etc not to mention the cost of the bag.
Still we won.

this
I think they have a pretty tidy ground these days - for the size of the club I think the ground is a good set up.
Quite surprised it was just seats that got damaged last night, there have been a few incidents recently and there was one nasty ****er skinhead there last night who I've not seen for a few years but he always used to be kicking off and I asssumed that's what had dragged him out of the woodwork last night.

Personally, as a Southend fan, I'm embarrassed that my kin seem unable to use a seat that is evidently fragile without breaking it.

If something's not mine, and I've been given temporary use of it by someone else, and it's fragile, I would instinctively avoid risking breaking it, especially if I've hired it. I have never jumped on seats when we've scored (I've fallen over a few, but that's just cos I lost my balance after a beer or three), precisely because I wouldn't trust a plastic seat in most grounds to not break. Seats are for sitting on, not for standing on, let alone jumping on.

O's would be quite within their rights to throw the book at you. And if you answer back 'your seats were too flimsy' then why didn't you tell the stewards before the game if they were that unfit for purpose?

Without a shred of irony, turning a blind eye is exactly how the Nazi party got to power in pre-war Germany. It's a pathetic, irresponsible 'not my problem' attitude that typifies modern society. Grow some balls and stand up for what you know is right!

So. Did anyone witness any of our fans "deliberately" vandalising the seats last night?

Just throwing this one out there.
#

Did anyone see 30+ seats all located together at the back of the stand break from accident damage ??

'Maybe' as all of theses seats were tgether they were all from a rouge batch that were well past their sell by date and it is a wonder they had lasted so long?

I have no idea.-- Weird how no ones who knows the facts is poting them here

If people are saying 'big deal' and 'its going to happen' are referring to 'accidents' then I can understand that viewpoint, if they are saying this knowing it to be deliberate vandalism then its very difficult for some of us to understand and agree that view point--- in much the same way as they may find it difficult to understand why others (self included ) think they are wrong.

It didn't spoil my night, it isn't the end of the world etc etc etc , but that does not make it 'right' or 'OK'

Please tell me that this is tongue in cheek and that you haven't just genuinley had a bite on the comment!!! :duh:

The 'sue' comment was sarcasm btw

I don't see how the colour of the seats is relevant.

That sort of comment just makes me see red.

Checking round my house having read through this thread.
1- Up stairs TV not working well since switch over.
2- Scratch on living room table
3- Toilet push button keeps getting stuck in now and then

Lenny/Trueblue can you please come round and give above items a good kicking, go at TV with a hammer if needed.
This has to be done because I am sure these items will not be good enough to pass your quality inspection test.
Thanks in advance.
