Breaking News Season Tickets - now on sale

62 is quite young for seniors discounts, at Colchester it is 65 and over, I think it should be linked to the state pension age because many older people are still working even beyond the state pension age, I am 72 so well past worrying! Many clubs offer free or heavily discounted prices for youngsters, but many families can’t afford to go because the adult pricing is too high. The kids are the future for all clubs so adult pricing in family areas need to be considered more than anything else.

This is what is happening, with the age rising from
61 last season to 62 for 2025/26. Traditionally, discounted prices were available to over 60s, but COSU realised that this was out of line with most other clubs, and announced last season:
“After discussions with supporter groups, we can confirm that from the 2024/25 season, the age of a senior category will be rising to the State Pension Age, which is currently 66. This will be done gradually over a five-year period to ensure anyone who currently qualifies as a senior will remain at the senior price category.”

The simple fact is in this Country we have evolved a culture that 'senior Citizens' (If that's still a politically correct term) are given discounts.
So season tickets for fans aged 62 and over is fair enough.
Many in that age group have supported the club for decades and on fixed incomes, probably rely on that discount to still be able to attend games.
That said there can be an argument as to whether age should be the only factor. Yes there are individuals and families on low income who are priced out and yes just because someone’s 62 doesn’t mean they’re struggling financially and just because someone’s 32 doesn’t mean they’re not.
You start to move into the consideration of means-tested discounts and the administration of the eligibility that the Club would have to pick up.
Yes in a perfect world it would be nice if Roots Hall was more financially accessible to some but regrettably we don't live in one.
But who knows maybe one day, we can but hope.
Doesn't seem that hard too me just remove the senior discount and make the adult ticket cheaper that way it affects struggling older people and struggling young people equally

Give it a rest now, you have had your say multiple times. You have been on the zone five minutes and are not going to change something that has been in place with all football clubs for many many years.

You can if you go support Yanited. They’ll be charging ol’ Mancs more than tourists soon.

Now, you see CaP, if you followed our example you could double your S/T sales and perhaps even achieve double figures on pre season sales.

You too will be older one day. I see that you don't have a problem with rewarding long term fans but do you really think that many of those entitled to the older persons' discount are new fans who have recently started attending games ? I think you will find that most older fans are happy that they are still well enough to attend Roots Hall and support the team they have followed for years,

I agree but it's historic as we had a senior's discount at 60 for a long time. No idea why & to be honest as I paid game by game I paid full price for a couple of years until I realised it was 60.

I'm now a multi-millionaire pensioner who flies in for home games from Maldon by helicopter & goes to away games on my Learjet, tough landing that near Braintree I can tell you! Just thought I'd mention that for a couple of people who think we over 62's are taking the pish by having a discount. 😇😇

But there are some pensioner's living on the state £12k. £420 is 3.5% of that which is a hefty chunk for a hobby that happens on 23 times a year.

And if I'm in a position to pay full price I will be more then happy too I wouldn't see my age as making me deserving of a discount if I was better off then other people paying full whack
Really can't see what's so controversial about suggesting that if the discount was targeted at the ones that need it or they made the overall adult season ticket price cheaper it would help more deserving people rather then just the ones that need it that are lucky enough to ne over 62

That's a fantastic idea. The club could get our financial data together & means test us all. Wouldn't cost the club much & I'd be up for that.

When you reach a certain age you get a state pension because you have paid into the system for many years, you also get a bus pass, all sorts of free vaccinations, medication if you are unfortunate enough to need it and even 10% off at Iceland on a Tuesday - that is the way it is. Enjoy your life before all of this is relevant to you.

Was it that busy that they wouldn't answer the phone?
When I went at midday when they opened there was a queue of about 20-25 people. I was about 6th in the queue and took me about 30 minutes to get to the front of the queue. It did seem to take the people at the ticket office a while to serve people for one reason or another

Because people don't fit into nice little round pigeonholes.

And just to clarify, the Club had tried to get payment plans in place before launching the STs but it's not as straightforward as you would think.
