Funny old world though ! Ashley Cole can take a gun to training and shoot a student. Rooney can commit GBH on the football field. Celtic and Rangers can use a football match as an excuse for war. All are free to play on Saturday save those who got a red card. Not condoning Ryan Hall's actions for one minute but it as though footballers especially household names have the same sort of immunity as diplomats !!!

Yeah, If I shot someone and almost killed him/her, I would end up in prison for that! Because his name is Ashley Cole, he can get away with it.

Hang on, I'm getting confused here. Half of you are arguing he got a harsh sentence because he was a footballer, the other half of you are arguing that footballers can get away with anything!

And the other half can't even add up, let alone debate the merits of the subject matter.

I just hope he remember to give half his snout to Striper each week.

They don't hand out dolly mixtures in there.

If someone racially abused my son I wouldn't want him to kick the **** out of them.

I will concede that because he looks like a whiter version of David Soul his is unlikely to be racially abused in the first place.

If he gets bailed by a crown court judge whilst sentanced it means the re sentancing judge has to be looking at giving him a community order.

If the judge feels a prison sentance is correct but just shorter he will not get bail.

Call me cynical but I think the club may be waiting on the hearing for bail pending an appeal tomorrow before deciding whether or not to sack him.

I doubt it, the fact is we need to keep our best players and Hall is one. With our financial problems it wouldn't make sense to get rid of someone who is a very saleable asset when under contract (or at least he will be to somebody in the future). It would also be hypocritical for the club to bitch about the harsh sentence but then sack him once his appeal is rejected. We're now in March, the season ends in May and Hall will be released by then. I'm not condoning what he did, no way would I do that but racist abuse is disgusting and if he was provoked I do have some kind of sympathy for his predicament. If we sack one of our best players we are cutting our nose off to spite our face, we need players like Hall both on the pitch and financially - he's a talented player and wouldn't find it hard to find a contract somewhere else.

I just hope he remembers the loyalty we will presumably show and realises he owes it to the club to sign a new contract upon his release.

Just to add to that as I stated earlier in this thread, with the whole squad seemingly right behind Ryan Hall on this issue (and bearing in mind most of them must have seen it happen) sacking him would be an excellent way to wreck the team spirit at the club which has taken all season to materialise. Now that really would be bad man-management and would singe-handedly end all hope of the play-offs.

So if he's a decent player, stand by him. If he's crap, sack him, yes?

Hey I didn't say it was black and white like that, I'm just saying that if it was a player the club have been keen to move on you can bet your life the outcome would be different.

The facts surrounding this case are a bit sketchy from what i've read off here, not quite sure what went on.
But Hall will be sorely missed, the boy has been in a rich vein of form. Coupled with injuries to the better players in the team he will be missed as the squad gets depleted.
I fear for the attacking nature of the team now.

All though Ryan Hall pleaded guilty it was probably on advice from his good or bad solicitor and offered some sort of mitigating circumstances as to why it happened but the judges who do not always make the right decisions had no sympathy on him ......... i believe had he been at a inner London court he would not have been looked upon as a serial bad boy with a record as long as your arm and would have been given community service with a view to IF you come before me again you will go to jail.
Like many people on this forum no one condones violence but at some stage to a lesser or more degrees our tempers have got the better of us ....if it has not happened to you yet do not rule out that it might and if it did you would hope that the people around you friends and employers would stick by you because they know you better than any judge and would know that your not a bad person just someone that must have been pushed momentarily over the edge .....NOT a bad boy with attitude.
No one would like to be Ryan this morning who will not have slept for one minute and is probably feeling very very alone and football will be his last concern right
now and his mum and dad will be feeling the same ........... i am not a judge and dont want to be but this boy needs the support of all of you regardless of whether he plays for the club again .............still its all about opinions this is just mine

I hope we stick by him, everyone makes mistakes, that's just the way it is.
Hopefully he gets away with this appeal, which is probably quite likely.

In todays echo there is a story about a 19 year old amatuer boxer who struck a man in an unprevoked attack and broke his cheekbone , requiring surgery.

He got a year in a young offenders institute Suspended for 18 months and 240 hours unpaid work.

Some disparity with Halls sentence....
