Ron Martin from Badger 74

This is NOT the club I've known, cherished, agonised over, pulled sickies for, missed appointments for over the last 38 years. It has no soul and seemingly very little future. I feel numb and have no affinity with the players that started yesterday, the current management team and Ron Martin.

It will take much more than that for me to stop going to Roots Hall but to those saying we couldn't survive without moving grounds, bollocks. We've been there 20 years ago, survived and thrived.

absolutely spot on, we do not need a new stadium. One thing all the "we need to move forwards, and the only way to do that is FF" brigade forget is how can one move forwards with £30m debt for building the place? who's going to pick that up? anyone who buys the club, will saddle that debt, glazer style, on the sufc balance sheet and pokey little southend aren't going to generate the money to cover those interest payments. we will go from one very dodgy businessman to another profiteer who will only seek a return regardless of how, who or what they upset. PLEASE GRASP THIS FACT!

look at blackpool, re-developed bloomfield on the existing site (not in the style I like) which you could easily do at the hall, bit by bit (as they have) when money permits. The only thing wrong with the Hall at the moment is the away fans have the wrong stand.

No, I absolutely disagree. Roots Hall, much as I've loved the place, is in far too bad a state both practically and logistically to be a viable option long term. Just have a good look at the condition of the "steps" in the west stand, and the practicality of the bar in the west...and don't even get me started on the toilets! It also has absolutely zero scope for outside corporate use which is where Fossetts will come into its own. I can't tell you how many Essex County Council things I've been invited to that are taking place at Cuckoo Farm...THIS is where we will reap the benefits which Roots Hall simply can't offer.

couldnt have agreed more, although i think Ron Martin lives in a dream world trying to acheive it, his head may be the clouds to much

If we dont own Fossets and are only tenants there surely the clown that is Ron Martin can't saddle SUFC with the debt to build it , that would just be decietful and nasty of him.

I played at Roots Hall this year, it is so very tired, old and in a shocking state ... we sadly do need to move. We cannot redevelop Roots Hall as we have no cash. You can only get cash to build a new ground by selling your old one. I hate to say it, I love Roots Hall and have done for 25 years, but you have to face facts, that sometimes things have gone beyond repair, hence why I would suggest that over 60% of Clubs have moved into new grounds over the past 15 years. Actually, I reckon that 60% is on the low side !

something I don't think he's particularly afraid of, especially when he's got 4,800+ ostriches with their heads buried in the sand, giving him £20 every fortnigh

Good post OBL. Tried to green rep you, but apparently I have to spread my love around.
Don't get me started on the toilets, also. In the men's, even if you are lucky enough to find some toilet paper and a seat that isn't half hanging off, you would rather hold on.

I don't feel the need to say on a public forum that kids read, that I would hurt Ron Martin enough to go to jail for it. Disgusting comment and one I would distance myself from as much as possible if I were you.

Martin is killing our club? much like Jobson and Johnson then. We came through that, we will come through this. Nobody knows exactly what has gone on these last couple of years, but everyone thinks they know. We are all experts aren't we!!!

Boooooorrrrriinnggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!

And for what its worth this clubs in a lot worse state than when Johnson or Jobson was here.....for a start we owned our ground.......and not in debt by as much....we owe more to sainsburys than we ever owed anyone thats without other debts.

Prem - 6 new grounds
CCC - 11 new grounds
League 1 - 6 new grounds
League 2 - 5 new grounds

I make that 28 new League grounds out of the current 92 over the past 20 years. The number of grounds totally redeveloped with 4 new stands on existing site in the last 20 years is a bit harder to work out but I make it about 15. Also I'm not sure about some of the newer clubs, I did not include Yeovil as having a new ground because they were not in the League when they moved to their new ground.

I agree with you there is no way we could redevelop Roots Hall unless we had a mega rich owner.

And while losers like you won't support the team at home, we will never be able to clear off that debt. By boycotting home games, you are not hurting Ron Martin, you are hurting SUFC as a club.

no you are giving Ron a stay of execution - go to the game by all means if you can't help yourself and don't care how the club is run, but please please do not claim moral high ground

I will support my team thank you, not Ron, but my team SUFC, the 11 players on the pitch. Yes, they may play badly sometimes, but they are my team.

We need the new stadium, Ron knows we need the new stadium, and if most of the supporters on here were honest, they would admit that too. Ron has his shortcomings, as we all do, but he had no crystal ball that would have help him foresee the banks u-turn on lending. That's not Ron's fault. You all bang on about Ron needing to go etc etc and he has done this and that, but how many of you actually have any cold hard facts about any of this....That's right, none of you, it's all speculation!

Not convinced our gate money has a significant effect on the clubs financial position or that it would be spent wisely. Blow it all on lawyers rather than buying the basic stationery needed to print tickets.
