Recommend me a book

Bloody hell, was just about to bump this thread myself.

Are you reading my mind or the bit on my profile where it says 'is currently viewing'?

Alas, my library, sorry Idea Centre, doesn't seem to stock this, or seemingly anything else worthwhile.

Any more suggestions?

Yes mate, I'm cyber-stalking you......

I have two copies if you want one. And BEE's 'Lunar Park' ain't bad either. Saw a mention of Amis's 'Money', that's probably my number one selection, though 'London Fields' is close.

Survivor has to be one of his best too. But Rant wasn't that great.

Besides Fight Club his best would be Survivor, Choke and Lullaby

i'll definitely check survivor out... been meaning for a long time to get back into phalahniuk and BEE

Probably ignoring everyone who recommended me a read (sorry!) I'm current reading the new Iain Banks, the title of which escape me at the moment.

Very good!

Halfway through The Battle For Spain by Anthony Beevors, which unsuprisingly is about the Spanish Civil War. Anyone looking for a guide on how not to win a war should follow the example of the Republic...

"The Rats" trilogy by James Herbert

The Rats
Lair
Domain

Its all about ... well, i'm sure you can work that one out for yourselves !!!!!

James Herbert is my favourite author by a country mile, he's like the English Stephen King to the uninitiated, very graphic and very gory ... but thoroughly enjoyable if the horror genre is your bag and virtually all of his books are simply "unputdownable" IMO ... i've even been known to book last minute holidays from work in order to finish one of his books

With your love of music Paul, I can recommend the following

John Peel A Life In Music - Michael Heatley
Slash - Slash (Guns n Roses)

I can only half recommend the Slash book, as I'm only half way through, but I'm struggling to put it down.

The John Peel book was fascinating & a real eye opener. His connections in life were amazing. He was also VERY posh!! you might be able to buy it in WH Smith for 99p!!

If you want an old classic, George Orwell's 1984. I waited until I left school to read it. That way I know I would have a good chance of enjoying it!!

I would recommend getting the official autobiography Margrave Of The Marshes instead. Much better than the plethora of unofficial biographies that followed after his death.

I get through a lot of books on the Daily commute and instead of books I will go with authors as you can find their books in any book shop and smiths
I have enjoyed all the books I have read by the following authors and would recoment any of them

Patrick O'Brien
Bernard Cornwell
Simon Scarrow
David Gemmel
Conn Igguden
Raymond Feist
Martina Cole
Ben Elton
RA Salvatore
Wilber Smith

Patrick o'brian- all 21 0f the aubrey/maturin series just finished the unfinished 21st, fantastic series, the film master @ commander is taken from the books

Just read Palahniuk's Rant.

Its the first Palahniuk I've read and I really enjoyed it. I've now added a load of his other titles to my wishlist, although as I saw a few similarities with the Fight Club film, I expect it may get a bit samey if I read too many of his books.

Any more good recommendations always welcome.

Double Indemnity by James Cain, which the film was based on. A cracking story.

Also, currently reading The Rabbit Factory by Marshall Karp, which is a brilliant debut novel.

Any of the Rumpole books - Rumpole and the Golden Thread possibly the best, but all of them are brilliant.
