Recommend me a book

Just finished We all live in a Perry Groves world. A tell it like it is story of an average footballer who happened to win the League Title with Arsenal. Perry spent a lot of time living in Colchester where he met his wife. He describes meeting her as "a 20 year old Virgin, which in these parts is like finding a penny black"

It's the parts where he goes 4-up with Donut and two ladies that makes me squirm

Just started reading 'Girlfriend In A Coma' by Coupland, 50 pages in and it's excellent so far.

Recently finished reading 'Psychic Confusion: The Sonic Youth Story', an excellent account of SY's career and their contempories and Murakami's 'After Dark', another great read, although short and a very open ending.

I have just finished 'Forgotten voices of World War Two' which is a collection of transcripts from the Imperial war museums audio archive.

It is a collection of hundreds of short tales from all sorts of people involved in World War two, allied and axis, military and civillian.

There are some quite remarkable tales and I would recommend this to anyone.

Bringing uncle albert home by David p. Whithorn.
very topical for this time of year, great read enjoy.

Just finished reading:

Screwed: The Truth About Life as a Prison Officer by Ronnie Thompson.
Awesome book.

Previous to that

My Life as a Shrimper by DoDts
Also a great read.

Can recommend both books.

I believe that 1 of them is avaiable at all good bookshops and the other one is available at a dodgy one!

The Downing street years - Margaret Thatcher.

Or have we already done that one?

Personally Lee Childs is my favourite author at the mo but might not suit you. How about Kathy Reichs, the mortician woman.

I agree its an excellent book, as is Forgotten voices of WW1, Forgotten voices of the Somme and Forgotten voices of the battle of Britain and the blitz.
Also Somme Mud, excellent book, its a true story of an australian infrantryman at the battle of the Somme.

just about to embark on Shantaram, anyone else read it? apparently johnny depp will be starring in a film version next year so i'm going to read it so i can come out of the cinema saying 'the book is better':)

Just finished this last night. It was certainly a very good book, and quite thought provoking in parts. Was it as good as I was expecting? I think not, but I would certainly recommend it.

IF it's all true, the guy has lead an amazing life and I would be interested to learn of the circumstances surrounding his departure from India and what happened afterwards.

Can't imagine Jonny Depp playing the lead role in the film for one minute though.

Am currently reading James Ellroy's American Tabloid which might appeal to a few of you who like your fast-moving thrillers. It features JFK, the mafia, FBI/CIA and reads as if it was made to be converted into a Hollywood blockbuster.

I prefered the book I read prior to this, Richard Yates' Revolutionary Road. Best books I've read in the last couple of months have been Murakami's Kafka on the Shore and Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Hundred Years of Solitude.

Read that a few years ago and loved it. Wasn't the film LA Confidential (Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger, Mike off of Neighbours) based on one of his books?

Just coming towards the end of 'The Death of Marco Pantani' by Matt Rendell although given the title of the book I think I guess how it's going to end.

Love that Uxbridge - Mike off of Neighbours! Do you mean Guy Pearce?!;)

Just read A Serious Incident by Mark Haddon, which was really well-observed. Anyone who enjoyed The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is well advised to give it a go.

also re-read Generation X, which in retrospect is one of Coupland's weaker novels. Maybe the fact that it reads so disjointedly is the point, but it's not a particularly enriching experience.

Currently reading The Irresistable Inheritance of Wilberforce which is pretty good, though self deluding alcoholics are irritating!
