Depends how you look at it,

Pessimistic head: He has broke down in training.

Logical head: He still isn't ready for contact training yet, and PB has listened and taken notice of his medical staff.

I'll go with the logical option

Not on these boards you don't!
It's obvious to me that he's fallen out with Ron Martin who incidentally wants the team to get relegated.
I have this from Mickey "the hat" who I play darts with on a Wednesday. Not really a source but he is giving me some pickled onions next time I see him.

Was at b & l today. training lasted 1 hour and included full contact mini matches - Nile took a full part in it. Only saw Timlin briefly as he walked from the main building into the physio's port-a-cabin.

I wonder if during this "full contact" training session, any of his fellow squad members were brave enough to go in hard on Ranger and put him out for another 6-8 weeks

One hour? Nice work if you can get it. Maybe this is why we have only won three games. I'd have that useless shower in for a morning, afternoon and evening session. And give them homework. Lazy ****ers.

So, Ranger's record is as follows:-

In the games he has played in ..........

Sheffield Utd - 3 points
Chesterfield - 3 points
Bradford - 1 point
MK Dons - 3 points

I make that 10 from 12 in 4 games.

Southend United - with Nile Ranger - played 4 - 10 points

Southend United - without Nile Ranger - played 11 - 9 points

Quite a dramatic difference I would say.

Eh, erm, he played at Rochdale!

Just alter it to games he has started.

Can't count Rochdale. We were 2-0 down when he came on.

All too simple to analyse like that as far too many factors, eg Wordsworth has also come back and Id say has had more of an impact.

Either way Ranger being in the team makes it a far better team.

Agree both Ranger and Wordsworth have made a big impact going forward, but also Ferdinand made a difference, seems to have now organised us defensively.

Indeed, many different factors, so its unfair to give the credit to just one of them.

The worry is all 3 of them are the ones with injury issues so hope we keep them fit.

I agree that there are (as always) a number of different factors. There is the move to 4-4-2 ....... Thompson coming back into the back four, Cox being recalled, Atkinson doing his bit etcetera ................ but even so it is quite an impressive record so far.

Ranger holds the ball up very well this allows cox, Wordsworth, McLaughlin to work off him and play footy further up the pitch. Thus leading to more chances, more goals, thus relieving the pressure on the defence....which has anton Ferdinand at the heart of it, his reading of the game today was different class. He was just ahead of the play, apart from one slick dons move in the first half he was on the next page.

I watched Nile a lot today. What he does is very simple, but he does it well, and is highly effective. Every time we moved the ball forward he was there, causing all sorts of trouble for the opposition to deal with. What an asset he is. I'm just aching for him to bag his first goal.

Me too, would be a massive confidence boost for him,

His movement off the ball creates so much space for Cox and our attacking players, from what I heard on the radio reports today he's still far from being totally match fit, so hopefully things will only get better.

Ferdinand is also a class act.

I liken him, from what I've seen, to when we had 'The Goat' here.

Tall, strong and can drag players out of position, which 'The Goat' used to do perfectly for Freddy.

Ranger's the kind of player I seem to have been cursing for years, cos we so often seem to be playing against someone like him, and our defence is never capable of handling that kind of player. It feels so good to finally have a big 'unplayable handful' on our side for once.

Two players up front with movement occupy defences, which means that when a midfielder makes a run an opponent has to track back and be more aware than, say, a spare defender , who is watching the play in front of him.
The combination of Ranger & cox with Macglaughlin and Wordswoth making runs is drawing opposition midfield so back.
This gives us the upper hand when attacking, particular when we attack with a bit of speed , as well as giving the opponents fewer options in an advanced midfield should the get the ball.
Ferdinands vision at the back also picks up some of the more dangerous positions the opponents may get into.
I feel that Ferdinand is organising the other defenders well and is bringing Thompsons game on.
We may see over the next few games, as Wordsworth becomes "the man to watch" that Lenny gets a bit more space too, in the past he has been the midfielder to concentrate on and he has been shackled by attentive opponents.
