Promotion and relegation 2019/20 season

It’s all relative though, as this is an entirely unprecedented time. If Ron were to poke the bear, it would almost certainly backfire on him and us. The EFL aren’t just going to roll over.

I hear ya, but at the end of the day, rules are rules, and as I mentioned above, if the powers-that-be are provoked by frivolous lawsuits, they’ll get as heavy handed as they (arbitrarily) can.
Rules are rules as long as it suits the EFL. If they truly want to follow their rules, then the season would be voided with no promotion or relegation

Sorry, didn't make myself clear.
The 'we' I mentioned included Bolton.

But that was exactly my point though!! The previous post suggested there could be a scenario where we are voted to be relegated and Bolton are not and I was pointing that can't happen, as that's not how the voting would work.

It's not that easy though is it. Every club knows this week go on after the end of June (if it does start) and know they don't want to have to sort out contacts in order to get a side out.

That 6, may not have to worry about that, and promotion to the Championship is a big financial bonus.
Point taken, no pun intended!
But if the six have their way, it drives a hole in EFL plans. In effect, it says wheels that screech loudest get the most oil.
We'll see how the EFL reacts on Monday, but six out of 24 is still a quarter of all clubs.

In our case yes, but I’d be ****ed off if I were the other club being relegated. I genuinely don’t think it’s the fairest way.

Exactly, it may be fair to relegate us (if that happens, so be it, at least I won't be at the game we go down!!)

However for a team just inside/outside the relegation places, that end up going down like this, wouldn't be fair IMO, and you can't just send one or two teams down.

We certainly know in future there will be rules to cover this ?, but the league are hoping the club's make the decision, so that way they can't argue with the outcome, but I can't see all clubs coming to an equal agreement.

I personally don't care what League we are in, add long as we still have a team. Actually, maybe this is the League's plan, let a few teams go out of business and then they can promote without relegation!!

Precisely my point, it’s whatever suits them.

Hence why I believe if Ron tried to sue them, then they’d hit us up the ribs, as hard as they possibly can. And we’d lose.

It's not in the EFL's interests to see clubs go to the wall - it damages the product, especially as those likely to profit have names like Harrogate and a budget like mine!
if we can stay in League One, I shall be pleased despite the merits or not of our situation.
If the likes of Fleetwood can manipulate the situation, I shall be hopping mad!

I don’t think it will be us who sues- and this has a long way to run. Likely however someone will- it only requires one club- but the ruling will apply to all. Therein lies the nightmare scenario for the EFL as the likelihood, although not certainty, is an injunction and the embarrassment of the EFL having their own rules enforced on them. Who knows how it ends.

Ron will sit back. Worst case we end up in L2 where we were all but certainly heading anyway. There will enough other clubs far far more aggrieved to lead the way.

There is always the possibility the EFL will somehow pull off their compromise. Seems somewhat unlikely.

a nice breakdown from each club in L2 what the ending of the season means - makes for an interesting read

The decision is the "best outcome in a bad situation", according to Cambridge United chief executive Ian Mather.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Sport: "We are happy with it. If you look at the cost of completing our five home games and four away games it was somewhere in the region of £200,000.

"The testing costs was estimated to be about £140,000. We would have had to take players off furlough and other staff off furlough and we would have had travel costs for away games, so £200,000 to make no difference to our league status for next season just doesn't stack up.

Why are people/clubs still rattling on about testing costs? The EFL have said the League would pay!

Maybe cash flow but more likely it's not a good use of money in their scenario (regardless of who is paying), oh, and the fact they could be used better testing frontline workers I imagine

So as League 2 is done and they are promoting 3 plus 1 via play offs. (why are they having play-offs???). Therefore there must be relegation from League 1, So we are relegated.
League 1 can't have different rules and say there will be no relegation. can they!!!???

Logically speaking, no.
So, a season where the malaise started with a Kevin and was ended by a Covid.
We can always think about what might have been had we been allowed to fight for those 27 points.

Not sure that’s exactly right, read several reports yesterday and today saying the championship clubs need to cover the cost for that division.

there is so much misinformation flying around due to all the not wanting to decide who does what

If the EFL ignore their own rules im sure some clubs will sue,and good luck to them , rulesare laid in place for a reason and apply to all.

Exactly this. If there was no provision within the EFL regulations at the start of the season that included a clause on how a final positions table would be calculated in the event of a curtailment of the season, then it cannot be included, lawfully or otherwise, after the season had started. The EFL and clubs knew the conditions of competition at the beginning of the season and to amend those, prior to the full completion of fixtures, would deem any involvement until the point of amendment as null and void.
