Promotion and relegation 2019/20 season

If relegation is crapped, will the bookies pay out on my bet of Southend avoiding relegation? The bookies didn't stipulate how we would avoid relegation so as far as I am concerned, if the season is ended with no relegation, then I have won by bet.

If the season is scrapped I would only expect my stake back though

Same here i bet on us escaping relegation with Sky Bet at christmas it was 750/1.....

There surely has to be a case for reducing costs for next season. The easiest way of doing this, is by reverting back to old concept of the bottom two divisions being regionalised for a couple of seasons. Would reduce quite considerably the number of overnight stays and increase the number of more local fixtures. Mind in our case no one is particularly close.

Would solve the relegation and promotion issues between Leagues one and two, without a ball being kicked.

The longer this goes on, the more I feel that full attention should be turned away from trying to finish this tainted joke of a season and onto the more important matter of conducting a root-and-branch appraisal of the game in this country and putting in place sweeping reforms to its financial structure ready for next season.

Aside from the redistribution of broadcasting money, start with salary caps and the abolition of parachute payments.

but surely relegation and promotion would still happen? what is the incentive for playing otherwise?

Exactly, no need to restart provided relegation and promotion issues can be resolved between the Championship and League 1. Leagues 1 and 2 would be combined and then divided into North and South.

Personally, I think geography is one of the few things that aren't problematic in 2020, the regionalisation of the lower tiers was related into a time of very different circumstance. If you are doing it purely to sidestep relegation and promotion there are other ways to address that. My personal take at least.

there has been no mention of geographical splits in meetings i have been at, some clubs would strongly object. Sunderland in league 1 are a massive source of income for some clubs, while it is only one team they bring 2-3000 fans with them, Pompey also naming a large following. Teams would not want to miss out on those

Everybody wants someone else to make a decision, which they can then point to and follow. Who wants the litigation on their doorstep? Nobody, understandably. It would help if the FA and/or DCMS would do something. The PL and EFL are at the behest of their members - they won’t do anything they can’t get agreement for, and clearly there are hugely conflicting positions among clubs for every scenario. Clubs want what works best for them. As such the lead needs to be given from above, but the FA and DCMS seem to be very silent indeed...

Just been on a conference call that had someone who previously was an FA bigwig on it, they were saying leagues have to say what is happening by 20th May.
I appreciate that these deadlines have probably come and gone before but thought it worth a mention.

1 think there are a couple of things around this date 1. UEFA need to be informed how seasons will be completed in line with their deadlines (probably this is only the Prem)
2 I think clubs should be releasing their retained lists (this wont happen/will be extended as in no-ones interests not to)

Yeah as you say not so sure a regional North/South divide really helps us that much. We could lose some of the Northern teams but end up with Plymouth, Exeter, Cheltenham, FGR, Newport & Swindon etc. Not exactly local derbies.

Have to be honest i am losing some of the love for the game, this is just dragging on and i am involved in it, so frustrating.

for me i am 100% against regional divisions. Anyway time to go home for the day

What about school?! The kids have spend almost a year until March 2020 studying for their GCSE or A Level, then their school is cancelled until they can go back in September, which effectively voided & nulled & they start all over again ??‍♂️

I think they are getting the GCSE grades based on school work and mock exams, not sure of same for A levels

A Level kids are getting the same, strangely some Uni's are using the first semester grades as a safety net whilst requiring all work to still be submitted, other Uni's are still requiring all assessments to be completed with no safety net, mainly due to each Uni making their own rules with the minister responsible not giving any clear guidance.

But anyway back on topic, I reckon the seasons just going to be abandoned as incomplete with no ups or downs, not a null and void simply a we didn't finish it. I wouldn't expect the new season to start until September 2021 and the players and staff may need to have to find other employment until games can resume.

What about plumbing? It was good enough for Tom Finney.
