Promotion and relegation 2019/20 season

Another thing i have heard this morning is that the national league is unlikely to be back until January, but that wint be confirmed until issues from this season are sorted out

I see rumours are growing in the press that EFL clubs certainly below the Championship are starting to think its unrealistic to re-start the seaon & it needs to stop. Why its taking so long to come to a decision that 99% of fans could see was obvious weeks ago is beyond me. There's talk of averaging out the points to give final placings. Not sure whether this will mean promotions & relegations (again there's talk of the former without the latter which will get confusing) and I know it would mean the mother of all unfair escapes for us, but regardless of our situation I can't see how anyone can be promoted or relegated without all games being played. The season needs to be cancelled, nothing changes, start again late in the year or January with the new season.

The absolute stark reality is that for clubs at our level, this season is finished. It is not financially viable to pay players and play behind closed doors. That is the death knell for many clubs in the EFL.

This is the paradox. At the level of the Premier League it is the huge contracts with Sky and BT Sport and advertisers that is driving the push for football to resume (the players don't want it, I'm sure), but at our level clubs can't even afford to pay the players necessary to play the games. It takes a crisis like this to reveal the contradictions that have made English football unsustainable.

PSG officially awarded Ligue 1 title, apparently. Can see the same being done here with Liverpool and it’s looking more and more unlikely this season will resume. Scrap it, everyone knows where they stand, look at next season however that might be able to kick off.

It looks as though they have attributed a mathematical average for the games not played.
e classement final
  1. Paris Saint-Germin (indice de ),52)
  2. Olympique de Marseille (indice de 2,00)
  3. Stade Rennais F.C. (indice de 1,79)
  4. LOSC (indice de 1,75)
  5. O.G.C. Nice Côte d'Azur (indice de 1,46)
  6. Stade de Reims (indice de 1,46)
  7. Olympique Lyonnais (indice de 1,43)
  8. Montpellier Hérault S.C. (indice de 1,43)
  9. A.S. Monaco (indice de 1,43)
  10. R.C. Strasbourg Alsace (indice de 1,41)
  11. Angers S.C.O. (indice de 1,39)
  12. F.C. Girondins de Bordeaux (indice de 1,32)
  13. F.C. Nantes (indice de 1,32)
  14. Stade Brestois (indice de 1,21)
  15. Football Club de Metz (indice de 1,21)
  16. Dijon Football Côte d'Or (infice de 1,07)
  17. A.S. Saint-Etienne (indice de 1,07)
  18. Nîmes Olympique (indice de 0,96)
  19. Amiens S.C. (indice de 0,82)
  20. Toulouse Football Club (indice de 0,46)

They have applied the same calculation to relegation, so my team tfc (Toulouse) are relegated (in all honesty, they deserved it!) along with Amiens. However the tfc situation could be challenged legally.

"football" it's not uniformly the same. The prem are desperate to get going as they might lose income from not playing, and behind closed doors is fine as TV outweighs turnstile income, we are not keen to get going as that scenario costs us money. We are only linked by the tiniest of relegation and promotion ladders. They are not comparable things.

Sorry about Toulouse but as you say they deserved it_as do SUFC but I suspect we might well get away with it.Bit miffed about Montpellier who IIRC were 8th when the season finished.

Interesting that there is now a leaked conversation that confirms the EFL are considering doing away with relegation this season.

Its always been the obvious solution to upset the minimum number of people. Particularly as not relegating from the Pram and at the same time allowing promotion from the Championship takes away the biggest threats financially. Then the rest just flows. Been the obvious end point for weeks- doesn't mean it will happen necessarily. This is where Scotland will end up too as they will restrict SPL to allow more teams to the same affect.

Yes but it does raise the question as to how the hell we're going to survive in L1 again next season?

Agree 100%, how they do that needs to be sorted asap.

in relation to the prem, the idea as i have heard is to put all players, staff, officials and whoever up in hotels and they do not leave them, thus they are not coming into contact with anyone else (for me i see a flaw as in hotel staff but lets put that aside for now). They will use a limited number of grounds so games likely to be at neutral venues (St George’s park has even been mentioned) and behind closed doors. Please tell me I am not the only one that sees that this isnt possible.

As for hotel staff do they also then get tested prior? And then fall under the tests being carried out twice weekly to ensure everyone is safe, should point out that apparently the EPL will play for and source the tests themselves and not burden the government or health service with this.

That in itself begs the questions of they can get 20,000 to 30,000 testing kits just like that why cant the governments around thee world do so

The hotel staff could also 'live' in the hotel with minimal contact with outsiders
