I feel absolutely gutted for Sturrock to be honest and when you talk to the players you get the high regard they hold him in. The timing of this is atrocious to be honest.
Have to agree there - so near to the end of the season and all that

Ridiculous decision done a great job on limited resources. Just don't understand why people have been getting on his case still I expect they will now be pleased that the good ship Southend appears to be rudderless.

What complete c**t came up with this idea, a fortnight before leading the team out at wembley, whats the point????? The play offs have gone unless the new manager has promised we will wqin every game and make those above us drop points, laughable

There is no reason to get rid of Sturrock at all, whether now or December. We still have a slight chance of the play offs and I can't see us getting there with a new manager who doesn't know the players at all. Ridiculous to get rid now.

Sturrock can just as easily be planning for next season as well as any new manager could.

Other than we're still a league two club?!

Yes we will have a nice day out at Wembley in an effectively meaningless game. Last year we finished 4th then ****ed up play offs when we really have gone straight up. For me likely not even making the play offs this year is a failure

Is the timing that bad though? Not endorsing the decision but if true it gives the new manager a few games to evaluate the squad not simply based on pre season training. Realistically not going to the play offs so nothing major to play for in these final games excluding the JPT of course.

Good old Ronald. Wouldn't be surprised if he made his first trip into management after telling PS what to do and who to sign for the majority of this season.

Yes, I've heard he's done it because he (Ron) wants to lead the team out at Wembley.

I haven't really.

Good of the club to come out and make a statement NOT.
Would be nice for something official from them after all

Maybe were getting rid of him so we can give GC seven games to prove himself.

Sturrock did an amazing job season one, he did a fair job season two and he has done a poor job this season IMHO. I am behind Ron on this. Sorry that PS missed his day at Wembley but results have been woeful since the turn of the season and there is no room for sentiment in football.

Maybe he had to move now as he has someone lined up.

Correct decision imo as home form has been abysmal for some time now with no sign of change happening. Strange so close to end of season though.

Bizarre timing. What's changed since we last played? Had we lost Saturday I could understand it, but as it was a postponement why not either sack Paul after the Plymouth loss? What would have happened had Saturday's game been played and we'd won, would Sturrock still have been sacked (to be fair Alan little was sacked after a draw, which was as good as a win in those days!)? If not, and they were willing to give the Rochdale game as a final chance, then why not wait until after Bradford?

to me, it looks like either
a) There's been a huge row, and Paul's quit, or
b) Ron's got someone ready to take over now but didn't have last weel.

After the way Tilly was dismissed, I'm going for b)

*edit* Just seen the statement from RM, and looks like it's b) then. Right choice to let PS lead them out at Wembley, but it's not the same as managing them there

*edit of edit* seems he will be managing them at Wembley (must read more carefully), that's bound to be a difficult time for all concerned. What if he wins, but the new manager's first few games are losses?
