Maher going nowhere says unhappy Ron

I don't understand how so many people are justifying the departure of one of the finest passers of the ball in the league by saying he would "prevent the emergence of Moussa". Moussa has been entirely annonymous in every single league game I have seen him play. Correct me if I'm wrong but has he ever scored a goal, or made an assisst in competitive first team games? It seems strange that this 'presence' (or lack thereof) in the squad is enough to assure people that Maher's absense will be OK.

I entirely agree that Bailey is the best player in the squad at the moment, but I don't think Maher's absense is a prerequisite for Bailey to shine. I can't remember seeing Maher alongside Bailey for an extended period this season, but I don't think it's a partnership which would be doomed to failure like others seem to.

I am really very saddened by this news, because apart from being one of the best footballers I have seen play for Southend, he was also a personal favourite, and I loved nothing more than telling the Maher-haters to **** off when he was periodically abused.

It's a great testament to his ability that even in the League One winning squad which included Freddy, Prior, Goater, an on-form Flahavan and Gower, Kevin Maher was still perhaps the greatest influence on the way we played football.

I also think it's no coincedence that since his departure from the first team squad we've been playing a hell of a lot more long balls than we used to.

You'll be missed Kev, but perhaps you're permanent absense might finally convince some of your doubters of your supreme influence on the team, and how much we relied upon you for so many years.

vERY WELL PUT. sOME PEOPLE JUST DONT UNDERSTAND . YOU DO.

Ruthless my a r s e, same as the Hooper decision, just as you need him with Macca a shadow of his former self we release Maher. Tilson's timing never ceases to amaze me and as for you lot just making this into a good luck Kev thread instead of what is Tilson doing, well nothing suprises me on Rose tinted zone anymore!

Well said.

Have to agree with you Wiggy,WTF is Tilson doing:confused:

Though very strange for the club not to have said something by now, maybe it was going to happen but someone has pulled the deal outta the water.

The thing that really grates me is that when Kev got his **** kicked out from the team it was after Tranmere at home, quite frankly there were far worse performances that day.

I'd still rather have Kev in the side in front of at least half that team that day.

For those who have said Kev needs a workhorse next to him in this thread i will have to disagree, you lot are a disgrace and truly know fcuk all about football if you really think that."Maher strolled around" i've read,if you don't like the bloke fair enough but don't talk absolute sh*t.

Hear hear !!

Hard to believe King Kev may have left the club. 10 years is a hell of a long time to be at one club and we may never see a player stay for that long at Southend again.

My favourite memory of King Kev other than lifting the trophies we won was at Preston last season played out of his skin and scored 2 great goals from outside the area including the injury time winner that sent 700 southend fans wild.
Hope he still gets his testamonial against a decent side and we see him put a Blues shirt on again.

Errr, that was McCormack.

The King Is Dead - Long Live The King

Thanks for the great memories - best of luck at Gillingham & in the future -

Live Long & Prosper.

Trust in Judgment of T & B on all playing issues.

Errr, that was McCormack.

Your half right. Kev got two that day while Macca popped up with the winner (I think)

The Essex Echo clearly has other contacts than just maher, tilly, ron, etc.... so I am quite convinced by this story.

Plus, I think it is clear they've known something was up for a while but out of respect to Kev, Southend, or whoever have possibly kept it quiet to preserve a contact and the mutual trust there (being a journo I know how important it is not to lose a very good contact, which of course the Blues are to the Echo)

I believe this is the case because in every match preview when it mentions he injured players - it has never mentioned Kev, even after the "tendonitis".

Excuse my dyslexia - working on rubbish laptop keyboard(!)

Still can't see why you would what to make a laughing stock out of such an important player to Southend United over the last 10 years!!!!

Maher was at the reserves last week. They are playing again today if he's there people can ask the man direct.

Understand maher was at a Fuction at the Harry a week or so ago for David Crown and somebody has already asked the question re his playing days at
SUFC

Its my understand that he wont be playing for us again but no reason was given

We can all speculate lets just wait and see what if anything comes out of the OS for SUFC there is still nothing on the Gills OS and its gone quiet of Gills 365 Forum Understand both clubs are saying nothing
