The difference being with those two is we dont have any better in the squad.

Maher was being out played by Bailey and McCormack and whilst he would have been useful to have for McCormacks ban he is no longer considered 1st choice, a decision I agree with.

The whole issue is pretty obvious, Maher isnt first choice anymore and wants to play and isnt happy to sit on the bench. His attitude to this doesnt sound to have been particulary great, which is understandable from someone at his age who wants to play.
 
Maher isn't in the reserves squad, and it mentions how Grant, Moousa and Lokando will all be trying to impress Tilly. It looks like Maher is gone
 
Tilly would have to give him at least 60 mins in the reserves if he were thinking about playing on saturday - I have no doubt about that.

Maher rumours are rife not to mention it actually being on the Echo website. So shouldnt the club come and say either way whether these rumours are true or not? Maher is a Southend legend in a lot of peoples eyes and it seems sad that he will not get the send off he deserves by almost being "snuk out" of the club.

Think the club have ballsed up PR wise on this one. Like I say, true or not, something needs to be said now.

Completely agree....I would imagine that they are 100% aware of the posts on here so why they have not made some sort of a statement is beyond me.

As you say not the best PR day they have ever had.

I have to agree. If he's staying, a clarification from the club would be helpful. If, on the other hand, he's going, it would be good to put this to bed, to wish him good luck and then move on and concentrate on matters on the pitch.

There is every chance the deal hasn't been finalised. It's a no win situation for the club really because if they announce it just before it's all be signed (a la Walker) then it looks stupid when it falls through. If the news breaks before it's all been done then it looks like they aren't on the ball. It's unfair for all concerned to start posting rumours and unfinished deals on the OS, and so we'll just have to wait. I'm sure that the news will be released when it can be, and the reason for the delay may even be announced too.

From what I can see, Maher is gone, and the club are just tying things up. The one thing they could probably do is ban Chris Phillips from the ground for being a prat who always breaks the news before the club can!

I think this maybe the issue here. How comes the news is broken first in the Echo? They need to come to some sort of agreement or set of PR rules with them. Whether the club are tying up loose ends or not, the bottom line is that the news is out already and its clearly before the club are ready to announce anything so something needs to be said, to the fans or Chris Phillips/Echo.
