Maher going nowhere says unhappy Ron

It is also this kind of inaccurate journalism that gets the red tops and some tabloids such a bad name.....would never get this unprofessional journalism in the broadsheets
Well I'm sure if the broadsheets were so good then they would have the highest reader figures... but they don't.

Well Matt the Shrimp seems to think it is a definite - says as much in the McCormack thread.

Sorry, I should have clarified in that thread - my views on the Maher story are based entirely on the piece in the Echo. If that piece turns out to be inaccurate, then we will post the Echo's clarification if and when they make it.

This is a life long argument of the tabloid reader.....I guess they just trot out the sort of inaccurate trash that they know there readers will believe!!!!

Broadsheets are often known as the ‘quality press’ being more informing and formal in the manner they convey information and news stories

I guess more folk are happy to read drivel than quality press!!!

More people drive a Ford Mondeo than an Aston Martin, does that make the Mondeo a better car?

Are Mondeo's more efficient, thereby consuming less petrol, for a cheaper price, but still getting you to your end destination?

The Echo runs a story on what is likely to be a decent lead or decent information.

The OS, barely a day later, confirms the current state of play.

The majority believe every word that's said by club/Echo.

I think I know which one of these actions I think is most lamentable.

On that rational you may as well by a push bike...cheaper more environmentally friendly and gets you to your destination.

Just so you are aware below is a comparative fuel consumption of the 2 cars

Ford Mondeo 2.3i Edge = 20.5 MPG
Aston Martin DB9 V12 Coupe = 17.8 MPG

The mondeo is so much more efficient isn't it??

So what you are saying is that if you could afford both and the huge 2.7 MPG difference did not worry you, then you would rather have a Mondeo than an Aston Martin......

I guess we all have different levels of ambition then!!!

Is that how you'll be getting back for the next home game?

:)

Of course.......I will be having a "backy" from Rich.

For all you to young a "backy" is a "saddler" god knows what it is called now....H&S probably don’t allow it anymore.

Although correct me if i a wrong but didn't the chopper have a similar warning on the back of the seat all those years ago......fancy that, design a seat that is perfect for a saddler then tell children that they cant do it.

I don't understand how so many people are justifying the departure of one of the finest passers of the ball in the league by saying he would "prevent the emergence of Moussa". Moussa has been entirely annonymous in every single league game I have seen him play. Correct me if I'm wrong but has he ever scored a goal, or made an assisst in competitive first team games? It seems strange that this 'presence' (or lack thereof) in the squad is enough to assure people that Maher's absense will be OK.

I entirely agree that Bailey is the best player in the squad at the moment, but I don't think Maher's absense is a prerequisite for Bailey to shine. I can't remember seeing Maher alongside Bailey for an extended period this season, but I don't think it's a partnership which would be doomed to failure like others seem to.

I am really very saddened by this news, because apart from being one of the best footballers I have seen play for Southend, he was also a personal favourite, and I loved nothing more than telling the Maher-haters to **** off when he was periodically abused.

It's a great testament to his ability that even in the League One winning squad which included Freddy, Prior, Goater, an on-form Flahavan and Gower, Kevin Maher was still perhaps the greatest influence on the way we played football.

I also think it's no coincedence that since his departure from the first team squad we've been playing a hell of a lot more long balls than we used to.

You'll be missed Kev, but perhaps you're permanent absense might finally convince some of your doubters of your supreme influence on the team, and how much we relied upon you for so many years.

Thank God that some sense has been spoken. Kevin Maher will be sorely missed and I personally think that Kevin Maher with either McCormack or Bailey is a better option than playing both. This is a personal opinion and I think that the Club appears to have acted disgracefully on this matter. It appears with the McCormack incident that all is not harmonious and the treatment of Kevin Maher I feel is appaling. I personally could understand it if he was included as a sub given his footballing brain and ability and feel we surely would have won all 3 points at Orient if he had been available and used.

I also agree that we have been playing far more long balls without him and feel in certain games it has been crying out for him and his style of play. We simply, without him, have no one to slow the game and keep the ball.

I also feel that McCormack plays far better alongside Maher, and his last few games seem to have shown a real downturn in form for him as he is no longer able to play his natural game.

I understand we all seem to think we're experts but I for one will sorely miss Kevin Maher.

Having just trawled through this lot... regardless of personal opinion relating to the merits of the decision, does anyone actualy believe that Maher will play for this club again (other than for his testimonial)?

Because I don't.

He's either gone or going. The only slightly debateable point is whether it's to Gillingham or not and as they're the only club mentioned that's 99% certain.
