Maher going nowhere says unhappy Ron

What a load of old tosh!

Who are the club trying to kid??

IMHO RM doesn't like the echo getting a story out before the club does, the same went for when Eastwood went to Wolves. RM went into a hissy fit then.

Throw your toys out the pram, slating the club when no statement is made.

Not really.

It's not even libellous or defamatory as it doesn't exactly lower the peoples estimation of Maher.

Fact of the matter is to write an article such as the one that appeared yesterday, Phillips must've heard from a reliable source that the deal was either a) done or, as i suspect, b) being finalised.

Risk of being a Jerno i guess, you try to be the first to break a story and if it is confirmed the editor gives you a pat on the back, and if it is completely denied then you look like an idiot who has not got a clue

Ron not very happy with the echo in statement on the OS for releasing this story and printing what we have all read

It does seem to answer some of the questions that have been across on here

Unless he plays this afternoon in the reserve game i thinks its going to be very unlikely that he plays on saturday

Indeed.

I wouldn't expect a statement from Phillips either, as it's his main priority to protect his sources.

Sorry, it's an all too familiar situation, just like when Freddy moved to Wolves and the echo got the news out first.

Report false information????

Yeah, very true that is what Journalist do

Although next time he reports on a big Southend United news story.....how credible do you think it will be viewed as......
Peter and the Wolf springs to mind

This is the problem here. If the Echo want to be relied on as a credible source of information then cant they at least confer with the club as to what the "real" news is? I bet the club are quite peed off and I wouldnt blame them.

It does sound likely that Maher is possibly off to pastures new but I think for the Echo to casually print that one of Southends longest serving players is going to be off on loan is pretty big news, especially when it clearly isnt a done deal. I appreciate that Chris Phillips is a journalist but printing things that are not yet finalised is unfair on all involved.

I would like to think that if any statement is made in the near future regarding Maher's future then it will at least be in good time for us all to give him the send off that he deserves. The club I hope at least realise how important that is to him and a large majority of the fans.

Thank you Ron for obviously only issuing the statement after reading my post on SZ recommending this :D

With all due respect, Phillips probably heard about the story some time over the weekend, drafted the story Sunday evening with it ready to print and be delivered Monday morning/afternoon.

That's a hell of a lot of time for a deal to be finalised and/or completed.

It's a difficult situation. If he runs the story and it doesn't come off, he's left with egg on his face. If he doesn't run the story and the news breaks, everybody knows by Monday evening and it's no longer newsworthy Tuesday morning.
