Billy Paynter - 9 apps
Matt Harold - 52 apps
Alex Revell - 34 apps
Leon Constantine - 43
Leon Clarke - 16

I forgot who else I said, but I'm a bit tired of it now because it's difficult to express my opinion when you do not agree or see where I am coming from with a single point I make. It's always black and white for everybody on here.

So out of 7 players, 2 have made 40 appearances.

One of them Constantine who wasnt brought in by tilly and left before we got promoted. Harrold and Revell started no more than 25 each and Revell played many of his on the right wing.

The Leon Clarke one is the only one I underestimated, I cant believe he played 16 for us! However he wasnt a target man, he made that point himself when he joined.

None of the players listed after Constantine left could be considered to be first choice or successful strikers and I again point out our two main strikers in all that time were average sized and not target men.

You are more than welcome to express your opinion, its what the board is for, but if people think its not substantiated then you have to expect people to debate it.

Nothing in football is black and white, yet your statement that our style of football has not changed at all since Tilson was pretty specific...

You are so sarcastic is unbelievable, I'd like you to teach me.
I didn't say that, I said it hasn't changed dramatically. Suggesting it has changed, you keep emitting words from my sentences to suit what your opinion is like you did with the stats for who we have beaten out of our rivals.
I always see both sides, I actually think that this board is being held back from being bigger because on looking readers (and I know many) don't post because they don't like the 'wolf pack' atmosphere that there sometimes is on here.

Dave you talk about "our history" but you are something like 21 years old

hows the old time machine rattling along pal :raspberry:

i'm also VERY sarcastic :winking:

All massive blokes. Suggesting we did play long ball.

Just because a center forward is big it doesnt mean that team plays direct football. A high percentage of all professional sides have a 6"+ striker which gives the option of when playing a high ball a greater chance of success in theory.

Even when we had a one of the strikers you mentioned playing (bar Constantine who was no way a target man, much better with his feet) the first option for most the players was to find feet of another player if possible.

Under Sturrock we dont use the option to feet even when it is available, it attempts to go to the target man almost every time. Now i'm not saying that is bad because it obviously can work when done correctly. Stoke & Bolton are good examples of direct team who have been successful with this.

Im afraid im with Jam_Man on this one believing the two styles are totally different.

And you are very defensive to the point of ignoring valid arguments against your post.....

If you think Im one of the wolfpack who doesnt see both sides of any argument then youve never read many of my posts....

Ive watched Southend on and off for over 25 years and trust me we have not played long ball for all of that time. Ive seen teams like John Becks Cambridge and the Twin Towers of Lincoln and theres a big difference between us and them. Theres also a big difference in the ethos and culture between this side and the one Tilson got double promotions with.

As to the other threat about our rivals I made a point that we havent beaten any ofour rivals but accepted that we have beaten some top sides when people raised relevant facts. That was a far muddier topic as our rivals have changed throughout the season, but in light of some of the facts I accepted my perception wasnt quite right.

When given relevant facts I can accept them you see...

You've proven my point about the wolf pack atmosphere. Puts me off coming on here it really does!

How is another poster having a debate with you suddenly become a Wolf just because he does not necessarily agree with your points?

So because I, an individual, disagree with one of your posts that proves your point about a wolf pack atmosphere ?

:dizzy:

I used to think that there was a werewolf atmosphere on here, but I see that it's alright noooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww............

I'm here all week :)

HAHAHA! Prime example three people attack what I say within minutes.

I personally don't care. But others do.

Jam Man haven't you got anything better to do other than try and burn me down? LOL.

You said 'If you are referring to me as being part of the wolf pack atmosphere etc etc...' You then sarcastically (which I admire) make some points.

Anyway off topic chaps!

LOL. Don't worry about me Cricko, just don't be surprised when I don't post anymore due to stress and depression because of being abused by MENSA members.

Anyway. I think we will be okay with what we've got upfront! Always Could do with a proven GS though!

This is a forum to discuss Southend, thought thats what I was doing. Nothing personal against you but you made a pretty bold statement about what I think is the one thing wrong with the club (pitch side), the style of play. If you read my posts I actually am not as critical as many on here, I see it as a means to an end, but I do accept their views that its not attractive and was therefore baffled by your statement. Hence the discussion.

As for sarcasm, I didnt think I was doing anything than responding to points you made. Not sure thats sarcasm..
