didnt like the bit where Laws mentions "could be used in the f.a cup game against Derby"
Gray had a knack of scuffing into the bottom corner.
is this reported anywhere other than the star? perhaps somewhere a little more reputable?

After listening to tillys post match comments when asked about the leon clarke deal, it is definatly a dead duck. I was quite surprised at what he said to Nick Alleker about leon not having the best of games against donnie and wether or not we as a club could afford to have someone who is not really a team player as this is the first time I have heard him slam a player who 1 week ago everyone thought was the dogs gahonnners. It is probably one thing that tilly as got right over the festive period because Although he as scored some good goals for us he never ever convinced me that he was the answer to our problems upfront.Everyone wanted someone who could score goals for us and loads of fans got caught up in the euphora of leon clarke but I.M.O its the best bit of businest we have'nt done this year.Hold on people.
"Of course we would like to have Leon here on a permanent deal at Roots Hall, but theres more to it than that" Steve Tilson, late November.
"I like it here at Southend, but its a 50/50 chance of a permanent move." Leon Clarke, December.
"Laws hopes the deal goes through as it should improve his chances of making a signing in the January transfer window." Brian Laws, New Years Eve.
"Let's be honest, he had a bit of a torrid time here; the fans haven't taken to him; he knows that. He hasn't enjoyed playing in front of the home crowd. I also have to take that into consideration." Brian Laws, New Years Eve.
It all ties together...
As was pointed out in another thread recently, our strikers and midfielders have scored more between them this season than at the same stage two years ago. OK, Leon Clarke has scored a fair chunk of them but then Freddy Eastwood had scored more at this stage in 05/06.
Leon Clarke has scored just once in his last eight games and that was a tap-in that I could have scored. He's a good player and I hope he signs for us sooner rather than later but regardless goalscoring is not our primary concern - it's keeping them out at the other end.
