Leon Clarke Goes Back To The Owls

gutted to be honest... once leon started doing the business at Southend Sheffield Weds n Mr Law made sure leon clarke never played in the FA cup games the writing was really on the wall.... blame agents etc.. but I reckon they wanted leon back... and was never going to play ball if the boy came good....

Gutted... but Freddy COME HOME

COME ON U SHRIMPERS

To be fair, Tilly pulled that one out of nothing so have every faith he can do something in Jan again.....

Dont give up ladies and gents....it aint over til its over...

I've said before, I think we could've had a bit of a lucky escape. Leon just didn't seem the same player after his suspension, admittedly the rest of the team was a bit despondant as well, but at least we've not splashed the cash as yet so can look elsewhere. Chin up, onwards and upwards!

is this reported anywhere other than the star? perhaps somewhere a little more reputable?

How about this.;)

Body: my times up in essex goin bck up north im ****ed off....
gonna miss mayhem in southend an sun nites in faces....
an goin out up westend oh well bck home here i cum!!!!

We are also gutted Leon.

Leon isn't that good but he can put the ball in the net which is what strikers are there for. If he doesn't want to be here then so be it. I would rather we spent money on our defence before we sort the rest of the team out!

P.S. I am ****ed. :finger:

This is a bitter blow, but somehow I thought something like this might happen.
Well, plently of fans thought he was a waste of space just recently, so lets see how we get on wtihout him! I hope they prove to be right!

Haha, if that is real (which wouldn't surprise me) then it backs up all my worries about the size of his brain.

Clarke Back In The Fray
Posted on: Mon 31 Dec 2007

Striker Leon Clarke could be recalled to the Owls squad on New Year's Day after a proposed permanent move to Southend was put on hold.

Clarke's loan until the end of December 2007 has now expired but, while all parties will look to bring the deal to fruition in January, Brian Laws currently has an extra option in attack.

"Leon Clarke is back with us today," Laws said. "A deal has not gone through at the moment and there is a doubt that it may not go through. At this moment in time he is still a Sheffield Wednesday player so he has got to come into the equation.

"As it stands, he will be available to us against Preston and for the FA Cup trip to Derby. We will have a look at him and see if he is mentally ready for it because he has had a bit of a torrid time since he has been here, the fans haven't taken to him greatly and he knows that so I also have to take that into consideration."

Bloke behind me in the ticket office had been chatting to Brian Wheeler and sounds like the deal is dead in the water as Leon/Agent wanted more money then what was originally agreed when the loan started.

From what i've found out Leon Clarke will not return to the football club. This is due in part to agent payments but T & B have decided they no longer want him due to attitude problems.

Hold on people.

"Of course we would like to have Leon here on a permanent deal at Roots Hall, but theres more to it than that" Steve Tilson, late November.

"I like it here at Southend, but its a 50/50 chance of a permanent move." Leon Clarke, December.

"Laws hopes the deal goes through as it should improve his chances of making a signing in the January transfer window." Brian Laws, New Years Eve.

"Let's be honest, he had a bit of a torrid time here; the fans haven't taken to him; he knows that. He hasn't enjoyed playing in front of the home crowd. I also have to take that into consideration." Brian Laws, New Years Eve.

It all ties together...

However, ever since agreeing a contract he's been woeful, late, disrepectful and stormed off the pitch on saturday, T & B have decided they can't work with him and don't want, it's fine by me. I'd rather have T & B than Leon Clarke.

After listening to tillys post match comments when asked about the leon clarke deal, it is definatly a dead duck. I was quite surprised at what he said to Nick Alleker about leon not having the best of games against donnie and wether or not we as a club could afford to have someone who is not really a team player as this is the first time I have heard him slam a player who 1 week ago everyone thought was the dogs gahonnners. It is probably one thing that tilly as got right over the festive period because Although he as scored some good goals for us he never ever convinced me that he was the answer to our problems upfront.Everyone wanted someone who could score goals for us and loads of fans got caught up in the euphora of leon clarke but I.M.O its the best bit of businest we have'nt done this year.

As was pointed out in another thread recently, our strikers and midfielders have scored more between them this season than at the same stage two years ago. OK, Leon Clarke has scored a fair chunk of them but then Freddy Eastwood had scored more at this stage in 05/06.

Leon Clarke has scored just once in his last eight games and that was a tap-in that I could have scored. He's a good player and I hope he signs for us sooner rather than later but regardless goalscoring is not our primary concern - it's keeping them out at the other end.

If I wasn't on the ignore lists of 88% of SZ readers, 71% of my posts would get read at least 35% more closely.

:D

Some more stats. In our promotion season from League One, Wayne Gray got 9 goals and one assist (all comps I believe but possibly just League Cup). In the season before, he got 13 goals and 6 assists. The biggests assister that season was Maher with 13 assists and the season after Maher again with 9.
