Labour/SNP coalition

Admittedly I've never voted Labour, nor have I ever ruled it out. Yet I made a pact with myself to never vote Labour whilst Ed Miliband is in charge. The thought of him being PM just scares the life out of me. Ed Miliband being PM, flanked by the SNP scares me even more. You'd seriously take the SNP over another a Tory government? The Scottish party that wanted to break up the union?
They lost the vote that Cameron gave them, so they are now still in the UK parliament, but with a fairly small amount of seats. I'd suggest you must have been asleep for gre last five years if your biggest fear is 50 MPs who want to but failed to break away from the UK.

I suspect that no one on here who is oh so very stressed about the SNP have ever voted Labour so really it doesn't matter that you are not going to now. You can't vote if you stress yourself into an early grave. Chillax right wing Shrimpers - whatever will be will be.

It's not just that though. 50 MPs who want to break away from the UK, with Ed Miliband as their scout leader. That's pretty petrifying by anyone's standards.

How many MPs did the Lib Dems have in the current coalition? What impact did they have.

Stop scare mongering - you don't vote Labour and so see everything they do in a bad light, that is all this is, IF Labour need a coalition party SNP may need to make up the numbers - you won't even know they are there, but it will be a Labour government so you won't be happy. Same conclusion if there are a few men in kts hanging round or not.

Excellent advise, rattle off a e-mail to Mr Balls to that affect would you.

He wasn't giving it the big un, he answer a question in an interview by saying you should ask for receipts when paying cash - and you should.

Maybe not the "big un", but he did make a statement without practising what he preaches.

It was a slow news day, anyone using it to score points still probably needs to prioritise.

Stop deciding for others what is important and what is not. "Slow news day" for you may be important to others. If I'm annoyed that Labour wants to uproot a flowerbed in the town center, then that's my decision not yours.

If you think a Tory UKIP alliance is less likely does that mean you don't expect the Tories to be the biggest party?

I predict them to make a majority if Milliband doesn't move to rubbish these SNP rumors.

Or you think the Lib Dems can make up the numbers still?

No, they wont have anywhere near enough to compliment any party.

How come Labour would be desperate to form a Coalition but the Tories aren't?

Because Milliband knows he wont have a majority and is having to change his course. The Tories are confident they will get a majority, and I think they will and therefore not scrambling for a new gameplan.

What is your solution - no government at all?

Why would I think that is an even remotely acceptable solution?

If the is no majority part then a coalition will happen, I don't know you are so alarmed. You'll have a right wing coalition or a left wing coalition so half us us will not be pleased. How many of the left on here have expressed horror at the prospect of a coalition with SNP? None.

Um, I'm not alarmed and perfectly aware of the rules.

I have a couple of Labour voting friends who will change their vote to avoid SNP getting into the government if that looks like a prospect. Are they the only two in the UK who are thinking like that?

If the other option is another Tory government then I'll take the SNP any day. All a load of crying wolf.

That's your prerogative, but I think it will be a disaster......As do many others.

Did you read the story of "The boy who cried wolf"? Not sure you've used the right adage there.

Pot, kettle, black.

The point is, at what price..... How much will Labour have to give away to strike a deal?

You are predicting a Tory majority so I don't know what you are worried about.

Do you adopt that view when out canvassing?
I mean dismiss other peoples concerns?

You ask how people are intending to vote and how they voted last time and that way you can see what the likelihood is that they may be persuadable. If they want to chat you chat whatever the answer to those questions but if the intend to vote Tory and voted Tory last time then taking it further is generally a waste of their and my time. Same policy here really - if someone who doesn't intend to vote Labour is alarmed about the SNP I advise them not to waste their time as it's just 2 versions of the left wing with one distinguishable difference that has already recently come into play.

I don't mean to be rude AAS....but if you told me that the SNP was just another left wing party....then I would think you were slightly tapped.
Have you stopped to consider even for one nano second why the SNP is taking votes from Labour in Scotland?....is it just to get a different left wing party....or is the clue in the name?

SNP are considered to be more active in supporting the constituents. Labour were seen as complacent about the Scottish voters sticking with them. The referendum energised people who had previously become disillusioned with politics and SNP were considered to be more positive in their outlook. They changed their leader. All other parties have lost votes to SNP but obviously Labour had more to lose.
