Labour/SNP coalition

Interestingly, Sheffield Hallam was Tory until 97. Clegg has destroyed his credibility with students, but there are a lot of upper-middle class people who live in that area who will probably provide Clegg and co with enough support (academics, medics, environmentally aware people etc etc).

Will be interesting how it pans out.

Just can't see him losing his seat. I think his party is going to get a mauling but he will survive with a slender win.

Yeah it's definitely unlikely, but it's going to get bloody - might wander past the students union tomorrow to see if there's much campaigning going on. The fact that lots of students have been auto-enrolled will probably help him too.

Ed Miliband has said that claims about Nicola Sturgeon preferring a Tory government, which she denies, are "damning revelations".

The Daily Telegraph says she made the claim in private to the French ambassador to the UK but all parties have denied it ever happened.

The Labour leader repeated his pledge that there would be no coalition with the SNP but refused to rule out any other possible post-election agreements.

oh dear oh dear.

A bit like Michael Gove who coughed and spluttered about an alliance with UKIP on this weeks question time.. They are all liars and will make alliances that are needed to get into power. Lets face it NO party is going to have an outright majority.

This is a little unfortunate

Sad news about #JimmySavile. Once had lovely chat with him in Franco's at Central Station. A real treat for a child of the Jim'll Fix It era

Would have thought she might have got around to deleting that one. No malice intended, it just popped up on my timeline so I thought I'd share.

In fairness, she wasn't the only person who got hoodwinked in to thinking that **** was a decent man.

Nick Cohen in the Observer on the impact of a 'leave' vote in an EU referendum on Scotland and the Union - and yet some say that a minority Labour government would be the danger:

Scotland may join the rush to the door. I oppose nationalists, but accept that the SNP would have every right to demand a new independence referendum if England votes to leave the EU and Scotland does not.

A Britain outside the EU would no longer be the country Scotland voted to stay with in 2014.

Fine. I wanted them to stay initially, but following the attitude of the sweaties throughout that campaign, I'd quite happily pack their bags for them this time around.

Don't you find it just a tiny bit ironic that Sturgen would deny a vote on the continued membership of the EU to not only Scotland but the rest of the UK, yet will demand another referendum on Scottish Independence as part of the deal she will no doubt broker with Milliband should he get in with a minority.

Ironic - I guess. But I disagree with her fundamentally in that I don't think there should be any referendums for large scale irreversible change unless there has consistently been more than 50% calling for change.
The additional irony is that if she supports a minority Labour government there will not be a referendum to end the UK or to leave the EU but under the Tories if a referendum did lead to us leaving the EU Scotland would be within their rights to call for a second referendum to end the UK under successive Tory governments.
Irony explosion. Can't hear the Queen purring then...

Q: Will the SNP continue to campaign for full independence despite the referendum result?

From tonights TV debate;

Sturgeon says she is not going to pretend she does not still want independence. But she respects the result of the referendum.

This is a Westminster election. If the SNP win, that does not mean there will be another referendum.

Q: What about after 2016?

That’s another matter, says Sturgeon. Let’s fight one election at a time.

This generates some jeers from the audience.

Q: You said it would not happen again for a generation. Will you respect that?

Sturgeon says if the people of Scotland do not vote for a party pledging a referendum, there won’t be a referendum
