Jeremy Corbyn's Labour

Burnham steps down from the Shadow Cabinet.

Miss Cooper offers to home 500 immigrants in her mouth,..its big enough for 600 at least:smile:

In that case why spend billions on something that will never be used?

We don't know it wont be used. We HOPE it wont be used, but who knows what craziness is going to happen in this world in the coming decades?

If every country handed their arms in and we could be 100% sure they were disclosing everything then I would be totally against Trident.

But to be wide open with no defence makes us sitting ducks and I'm not comfortable with that at all.

What are the figures you are using for each of these?

Foreign Aid - 12BN per year - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34176846
Trident - 41 BN over entire lifetime, which is unclear or I'm not reading the figure - http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-13442735

So unless the project is only 4 years long, I'm pretty certain that this point is true.

Either way, it's a little irrelevant since 409 MPs backed it against 61 which in this day and age of politics is an absolute pasting and not even likely to be a topic for debate going forward.

it was Mrsblue that decided it was relevant and so I was asking her which figures she was using largely because I am curious about her thought patterns

Jezza saying they will borrow money and lots of it whilst low interest rates are in force.

Problem for this maniac is...interest rates in 2021 may well be far higher.

Jezza promises 1 million houses to be built, yeah of course Jez,how many did Labour build when last in power?

More than the Tories.

Analysis by the House of Commons Library has confirmed that the in the 2010-15 Parliament, the Conservatives built fewer homes than any government since David Lloyd George in the period after the first world war.

The Barnett formula

England every year gives Scotland,Wales and Ireland somewhere in the tune of 20 billion...every year.
England give every year 12 billion to overseas aid every year.

32 billion per year.
A lot of what is classed as overseas aid is actually perpetration on trade deals.
The cost of Trident is an ever rising estimate and your total depends on what length of time you are covering - which is why I asked what data you were using.

To keep 30,000 highly skilled people in their jobs I would imagine, look at when the tories scrapped that aircraft carrier, perfectly good ship which required updating,no too easy scrap it and spend billions on new stock.

To be fair, the last proper Aircraft Carrier was the Ark Royal (R09), which went to the breakers yard in 1978. Hermes was, by then, a commando/helicopter carrier, and the Invincible class (which I believe is what you were referring to) were designated as "Through Deck Cruisers". They were too small for modern jets (possibly have been ok for the F35), operated a tiny air group, and were designed around 40 years ago.

I can see the argument for a similar sized replacement, but the Invincibles would've required a huge amount of updating, which would have probably extended their operational life for only a relatively short term.

:off topic:

Re Diane Abbot. Personally I think she's an odious, self absorbed, hypocritical woman who's only to happy to play the race card when it suits but God forbid you should ever stand up for the working class white folk within ear shot of her.

As if Labour didn't have enough self inflicted wounds already JC goes and cuts it's own jugular.

Even as a JC supporter I think that was a very stupid move.

Of course he has balanced up the shadow cabinet with the appointment of Baroness Chakrabarti.

For those of you with short memories she's the one who said don't leave me in a room with Essex man.
