Good news re Innis then.....

Mrs Blue, I hate to rise to the bait, but we are Southend United, not Barcelona.... ergo Messi, Fabregas, etc are a little out of our pay structure :moon: not quite sure what you're expecting out of a team with barely a pot to **** in ?

I would like to hear of a couple of extended contracts, ie Wordsworth, i think we have had a good season so far however I don't think we are ready for the championship. If Wordsworth isn't willing to sign as I believe is contract runs out this year, I'd like to see him go if interestedb party comes in with a fair offer. This enables us to reinvest in the squad.

My head says that is a fair assessment of the position with regards to Wordsworth .............. but my heart says "oh not again - another player coming good and then moving on".

I know the money would come in use for reinvestment but I can't be the only person who sees this continual churn of players as being rather disheartening. Thank goodness for players like Tims that have stayed beyond a couple of years.

Young with pace....Coxy is neither.

If you went to games you'd realise that Cox and Ferdinand are our two most important players right now. Cox in particular is vital to how we play and has played a big part in this 13-match unbeaten run.

You think you need pace? (*cough*)....Teddy Sheringham....(*cough*)

The best example is that player for Newcastle who took 12 minutes to get from the half way line to the penalty box but was the quickest player in the world ........... once he was 3' away from the goal line and the ball came by. Was it Mickey Quinn?

Scored goals by the dozen for a while.

I do agree. If we don't gain promotion Wordsworth will want out, if we do I feel it's too early, and we will full like last time. Head is a better option in the long run, I think we are capable of gaining promotion, do we have the resources to stay there if it's not yes to both questions then it's not the right time.
A preseason of excitement for a season of of woes if not 2. #UTB

I wonder if Cauley Woodrow could be an option. Not getting any action at Fulham and we know Brown loves re-signing former players.

He does. And Woodrow wouldn't be a bad bet in this league. But surely he wouldn't drop down to us unless he was guaranteed first team football - which he couldn't be.

Yes - spot on. And once (if) the player has improved they are off. We are left with nothing and the parent club are looking at a saleable asset.
It can work out for all parties sometimes. Oxford got a young lad from WBA on loan, Roote?, he did well, they signed him, they got promoted, he got sold to LUFC for good money, and Ox (WBA, clause) moved on to. Rare enough but as the saying goes "if you don't buy a ticket you won't win".

So we have off loaded a few players off the wage bill really quick which I'm surprised it went through so early, now we have room for maybe two players, let's hope we get two good players in that can add competition for places:thumbsup:

Woodrow IMO would offer nothing !

The problem as I see it,and this isn't a dig at any player.

Ranger hasn't got 3 4 5 successive games in his locker, not his fault but the demands on his body are beginning to tell.
Fortune hasn't got 2 successive games in him.

Cox never knows who his partner will be game from game.

The club have a habit of retro players and I hope they don't go down that road...can the club unearth a gem from non league, never it's not their bag.

My tip is if Simpson has his head on right then he could be the answer.

Fortune has started the last three games in a row.

Cox knows the type of player he is playing with and that is all that matters

I meant good games in succession ,not is actual fitness, but even his fitness at his age cannot be ruled out as he hasn't trained all week due to a dead leg.
