Another prospect is Scott Kashket at Wycombe, skillful and scores goals..

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/2377...off-but-is-finally-wowing-with-prolific-form/

Hypothetically speaking, if we tabled an acceptable offer for Kashket, I could see Wycombe rejecting simply because we're in League One instead of them and they wouldn't want to sell to the club... He would command a hell of a fee I would assume, not long signed for the club and then a contract extension soon after I believe, hasn't scored as many goals as Akinde but has time on his side...

So, to summarise the last 15 pages ......

We are after Jay Simpson but he has gone elsewhere.

And ..........

........... errhhh - we haven't got a clue who the club is targeting. :omg:

I'm happy with that - I prefer the "behind closed doors"/in private approach.

The only clue from our Browness is he said we are targeting 5, making enquiries for that is, and within that we are after a striker and a centre back, 2 weeks left to find out if successful or otherwise, plenty of time for us on here to come up with another 200 possibilities?? slight exaggeration for effect!:'(

Frank Nouble, according to wiki and my mental maths skills, has:
  • Played 177 games
  • Scored 22 goals
A calculator tells me that this is:
  • 1 goal every 8.045 games
  • 1.467 average goals per club he has played for.. as a striker...
  • 40% of clubs he has played for he has scored 0 times.

I cannot believe that Brown would be targeting this!

To be fair to PB he did say he was looking for a centreback as well. Might be time Nouble tried his luck somewhere else on the pitch.

If we are serious about getting promotion i think we should push the boat out + get Curtis Nelson ( supposedly unsettled at Oxford - ex Plymouth Centre back who looks pure class ) and super quick striker Mark Cullen ( rumoured to want away from Blackpool )

Good quality players in the positions we need. The rest of our squad looks strong enough in all departments.

Would be happy with both of these. But unless players like this are out of contract in the summer then we probably haven't got much chance of signing them in January. Presumably both of these guys are regulars for their current sides and Oxford and Blackpool would only sell if they got stupid offers for them. Can't see us throwing money around unless we get a very good deal from the Bentley tribunal.

CP confirms Matt Smith at Fulham is one of three strikers on a shortlist.

Would be a very impressive signing, but can't see him coming to sit on the bench and he would be very expensive. With the likes of Cox and Ferdinand, with Fortune and a few others unlikely to be cheap, you have to wonder how far Ron can stretch.

Smith is a beast and would be a major coup....blimey if we get him my god it will be fun watching the lads.

It baffles me that we're interested is Matt Smith, it seems so unlikely unless it's on loan until the end of the season.

If we needed an extra striker before this Ranger debacle, without knowing whether he'll be eligible to play, we need two strikers really...

Get him in....would be a fantastic signing for any League 1 side.

Why is it unlikely? He went on loan to a good League One side last season, who went on to be promoted. For whatever reason his career hasn't kicked on this season so why is it so unlikely he would be interested in joining another decent League One side with a good shout at being in the promotion picture (especially with him in the side)?

That was two years ago, and he went to Bristol City who had a lot more money and were running away with the league title by January. Since then he established himself in the first team and has fallen out of favour again.

Ok I misread the year, but otherwise it's more or less the same. I can't agree that this transfer is unlikely, it's certainly worth a try for an ambitious manager / club.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying 'This is a waste of time, we should be looking at more realistic targets!' I'm just surprised to think our budget could stretch that much more - that's what baffles me - not saying I have any idea what he's earning but I'll put my money on a lot. If it were to happen, it's a fantastic bit of business.

We are on the edge of the play off, Smith would be fantastic with either Cox or Fortune. It's a realistic target, plus he don't have to live in a digs somewhere further away from London area & he can have a short travel around M25 & A13 to reach Southend & back home, no problem.
