Can we please not mention Peterboroughs highly successful business model Im a bit sick of hearing about it to be honest :Winking:,

There business model is not to get promoted to the Championship. A lot of their fans don't like it and i'm not sure many of ours would accept it......If they did we wouldn't be in such trouble now.

Ivan Toney cost Posh around £650,000.....We have spent about £50,000 in the last 10 years.

Their Customer Charter, which sets out their business model. states that their aim is 'championship football in the short term'. This is dated June 2019. See theposh.com.

Ron said we are not going to be relegated.

Obviously they won't be saying as much but according to some Posh fans who know their stuff, thats the reason they fade off.

You need far more money and wouldn't be able to blood the players they do if they moved their successful model up to the Championship.....We shall see.

An official Mission Statement is of greater significance than an off the cuff remark in an interview by a chairman notorious for such 'hostages to fortune' comments and not really comparable in any way. Whether they achieve their aim or are able to sustain it is another matter of course.

Mission statements might mean something in Star Trek.... but in lower league football ?

Promotion to the Championship can be costly, apparently Luton had to spend a million pounds on redirecting their media base to the other side of the stadium just to satisfy the TV companies, they will probably be relegated anyway.

Precisely this.

Ron could offer up whatever “mission statements” he wants, but at the end of the day, who’s going to pull him up on it, if it doesn’t materialise? Who does he answer to?

There should only ever be one concrete plan for a club like ours, and that’s to stay in business. Anything else is a bonus.

Mission statements FFS :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Going on like we’re a supermarket or some clothing shop.

Totally disagree. It's admirable that a football club is prepared to go on record as to what its business model and aims are for the benefit of supporters so they can see exactly what they are getting for their money. It might pay you to spend a few minutes reading the entire document to understand what it says. A model of transparency that other clubs would do well to emulate.
Far better than to be in our situation where none of us know exactly what is going on (despite certain posters claiming they have inside knowledge but can't share it and similar tedious, attention seeking nonsense) where we are being strung along by a chairman whose only claim to consistency is that he never delivers on his promises.

i think it is good to have one, but it doesn't mean too much. They say we aspire to be or do ...... but if they don't then nothing much is done. It some ways it is like a new years resolution, nice to have but thats about it.

Not having a pop at you or peterboro but it is basically nice to have and say but counts for very little

Oh indeed. How incredibly admirable of Posh to tell their fans that they aim to gain promotion from their current league. Marvellous insight.

I’m sure that if/when Posh don’t get promoted, their complaints team will be inundated with work, from people who feel that they’ve been mislead by the wonderful mission statement.

You’re right on one count though, greater transparency is an absolute must between Football Chairmen & fans, IMHO.

Maybe that way, when people start getting a bit giddy and demanding managers sacked after a mere month or so, then The Chairman could turn around and say outright; we have no money, we’re barely able to deal with the current debts, why are demanding we add to those debts, further increasing our risk of folding?

If you actually read the entire document, there is a lot more to it than just aspiring to the Championship, it sets out in some detail the structure of the club and many other aspects of how things work and the whole aim appears to be to build trust and understanding between the club, its supporters and the community. Surely this is something to applaud rather than sneer at. Even if they don't always succeed in every respect this is infinitely preferable to a basket case of a club dependent upon the embarrassing ducking and diving of Ron Martin.

Did that include the dodgy deal to sell of their huge car park that pocketed a nice bung for their Chairman and Judas....Allegedly that is.

Hints and innuendos don't really help very much, do they. Please be more explicit, or is this another 'if you knew what I know' attempted teaser.

That Belgian geezer who just sold Charlton was on the radio a month or so back saying how the Championship is the most expensive league in the world to be in, as the amount you need to spend to be remotely competitive vastly outweighs the amount you get back in ticket sales & TV money etc. He estimated even for a decent sized club like Charlton you have to budget to lose around £15m a year just to stand still. So you either find a very rich owner who's not afraid to splash the cash to get you to the PL and its riches ala Bournmouth, or you accept you won't be there more than a season or so before coming back down. So for clubs like us its really a pipe dream to survive for long at that level. We either accept L1 & 2 is our home, or hope for a rich Russian who confuses us with Southampton..

In the grand scheme of things, it’s totally irrelevant though.

Sure, it’d be nice to have better communication between the club and us. Granted.

But the club can say whatever they want, without any form of recourse at all. So it’s a lovey idea in principle, but almost pointless in reality.

It’s like a sprig of garnish on a steak dinner. It’s not important, doesn’t change anything, but gives you something to look at.
