The Shrimpers Trust has their AGM tomorrow night in the Shrimpers Bar at 7.30pm. Special guest with Q&As is.............Adam Barrett, Lol. Hope someone asks him about his current situation. I know that Shrimpers Trust lot can be too polite and a bit shy to ask the right questions when given the chance.

Yeah it's about time there was a Brown/Martin bashing thread. It's disgusting and just typical of them two that the team is rising up the league, scoring goals and entertaining the fans at the same time.
Any more wins and clean sheets and I just can't see how the man can carry on. Does he have no shame?
Brown OUT!

Anyone who asks Barrett the 'right questions' is being totally naïve if they think he will speak openly about his situation at a Trust meeting. He is still employed by the club, his wages are paid by the club and he still has a contract until 2017.

The trouble is we wouldn't get the real reason. The club are gutless and PB is a bully. Everyone can give reasons as to why Barrett isn't playing but it will never come out. Feel really sorry for Barrett. He was the mouthpiece of the discontent of the players yet he bears the brunt of PB's wrath. Had Barrett not spoken up, we would still be getting tonked week in, week out, playing the managers negative tactics in a formation the players don't want to play. I applaud you Barrett

Get a grip FFS

More to the point if it it did not fit in with your anti-Brown agenda you would simply dismiss it.

You have regularly stated that Brown is an egotist who listens to no one but now we are lead to believe that the only reason we are winning games is because of something Barrett said and Brown has suddenly changed his tactics and team selection because of it. Odd really because I thought the only reason we were winning games was because of Coughlan's rousing team talks.

Simple question; which one of Ferdinand or Thompson would you drop to accommodate Barrett?

He might answer truthfully, he might answer diplomatically. He may refuse, fair enough, but as we already have 6 pages about it on here, and over 80 posts, and over 3300 views, then I'm sure it should be asked. I've known players to answer all questions honestly and openly, even the dodgy questions, whilst still under contract and employed by the club.

If Phil Brown has to start a game then we are in deep deep ****. Even Barratt would be quicker than PB.

We have no god given right to know anything. I admire your optimism but I don't think he would offer anything concrete.

The only fact we know:

A massive improvement in form since Barrett's absence.

Anything else is being pointlessly discussed. The only thing that is worth discussing is how well we're playing. If Barrett is 'blue through and through', he would fully appreciate how well we are doing and be supportive of his teammates. I've no doubt AB is doing exactly that. If he is needed again this season, he will give his all for manager, badge, fans and himself.

I half-feel that one of the reasons we were playing the unpopular 5 at the back formation at the start of the season was to accommodate AB into the team, and I also half-feel that some of the strongest critics of that formation are also now the strongest critics of his treatment.

IMO as much of a club legend as he is, we simply can't play him in a 4-4-2 at this level at present and he has a lot to teach the youths. If he is indeed training with them it would be a very good starting point for his transition into a coaching role.

We were playing 3 at the back because every time we played 4 at the back we looked powderpuff. Some teams doing very well playing a back 3 higher up the pyramid. Always find it funny that fans always favour a 442 because it's the only formation they understand. Typically English.

Plenty of people understand other formations.

I always favour 4-4-2, because 2 strikers pushes the oppo back and you don't need 5 in midfield, if the team is well organized and your full-backs are good going forward, like ours are.

Tinkering around to 3-5-1-1 and so on is just trying to be too clever at our level.

Two good strikers, two engine midfielders, two more creative/goalscoring ones, two solid centre-halves and two full-backs comfortable at both defending and going forwards, plus a reliable keeper.

Everyone knows their roles and as long as they are good enough to perform them, it's then just a case of playing the system until it becomes automatic.

It worked under Webby and Tilly and is now starting to work under PB, as well.

Football Isn't a complicated game, so why try and make it so.

As a player in our history Adam Barrett has been part of almost all of our recent successes.

He is the local boy who gets to play for the local league team in what has been a very very useful career.

But the truth is, Adam Barrett was always a league 1 player at best. The championship proved too much for him. As part of our league 1 title team he was very much a big player. But that was 10 years ago.

I for one will always be grateful for everything that adam had done for this club. And I'm sure that adam would be ready in an injury crisis, but I'm sorry old friend, but your legs don't match your heart anymore.

I genuinely hope the club give adam the chance to take his coaching badges and maybe assist with the youths and reserves as he makes a transition from player to coach, but for this season I would rather others had the shirt throughout.

Copy that, 4/4/2 for me if you have really mobile left and right backs that can bomb forward when needed, it works a treat....loads of people going back to 442.... people know their roll, it's simple.

Teams higher up the pyramid have the resources to buy players to fit other systems and players that are better at adapting.

Teams at our level have relatively small squads (certainly compared to the Premiership) and players that are generally used to playing with 4 at the back. Other systems can work when required, and we have had short term success last season and this with 3 centre backs. Generally though we have done better with 2 centre backs and look more comfortable in that formation.

We prefer 4-4-2 because it clearly suits this squad of players better. Also it is only 4-4-2 going forward and morphs whilst defending into any formation you care to name with the likes of Leonard, Atkinson, Cox and Ranger, all likely to pop up in the rearguard at any given moment.

Unless I am mistaken it has been confirmed earlier on this thread that Adam is training with the youngsters, or is training the youngsters- I’m not sure which.

Regardless of whether he is good enough to start , or even to get on the bench, isn't it unusual for a member of the first team squad to train with the kids purely for footballing reasons? I can’t think of when this would ever make sense ? You normally train with the kids because you have done something wrong . Without wanting to sound disrespectful, many on here think Jason William’s is nowhere near good enough to play, and he hasn't been making the bench but he still (rightly) trains with the first team.

So why is Barret training with the kids ? I do think it is worth mentioning that unless you know what is going on it is entirely possible that Barrett is happy with the situation - regardless of how unlikely it seems
