RM and PB pay Adam's wages - even if he's not in the first team set up any more, he's got bills to pay. He won't bad mouth them in public.

I disagree with this! I'm amazed people aren't making a bigger deal of it. To be dumped from captain and starting every game to the distant back of the queue is a rare thing in football, especially for a club legend. I don't think he's being treated right at all. Nor do I think he has nothing to offer. The current pairing are doing well but I would rather have Barrett on the bench than Sokolik. I fear there must be more to this than meets the eye but it all points to a sorry demise unbefitting of his status.

He isn't good enough anymore and isn't able to play in a flat back four, so no way would he be ahead of JS!!

I said at the start of the season that if we have to rely on Barrett this season we'll be in trouble, but it sounds like you would rather as be struggling at the bottom conceding goals for fun as long as our legend is playing.

I want what's best for the team, not what's best for individuals, no matter who they are.

Obviously making a big deal out of this as the team are playing well, so need to find another way to moan!

I have heard third hand, that Barrett will not play for SUFC again, sadly. He and Brown do not see eye to eye. Also, part of the problem lies with the soccer school.Again, third hand, any decent player from the soccer school does not get recommended to SUFC,but various London clubs ?

I've seen the 'training with the Youths' suggestion online before and tweeted Chris Phillips to ask him but didn't hear back. I know the usual suspects have confirmed it as fac(as they confirmed as fact that Timlin would never play for us again) but I'm surprised if true it hasn't been stated on here before.

There appear to be Southend fans at training every day so I'd have thought it would be all over Shrimperzone and it also hasn't been confirmed in the Echo. It's a huge story if it is true. If.

If he's training with the kids, could it be he's helping them - he is not good enough for the first team, regardless what sort of legend he is, so why is everyone making a big deal of this.

Personally if I was a manager and my captain had said after 8 games of the season we're in a relagation fight, I would have dumped him as well!!

Can I ask how long you have supported this club.... When I say that I mean understood football as and adult, and your age? That's an immoral way to talk about Adam Barrett.

No it isn't.

I had hoped he would have hung his boots up before this season and carried on at the club in some coaching capacity. The fact remains he did a lot for our club/his club and rightly deserves our appreciation. Whatever is going on, or not, I hope he is remembered for his best.

Unless there is a crisis between now and the January transfer window, then I would say he has played his last game. Sad but I was surprised he was offered and accepted a contract for this season. He has been a magnificent servant to the Club and does deserve better treatment if previous information is correct.

However. there is little doubt he is no longer the player he was and I fancy he has little chance of regaining his place.

I know that AB has more going on in his life apart from SUFC, IF he doesn't play again, he should be applauded and thanked for his services, and not disrespected on this forum.

THis all started after AB's article that 'we are in a relegation battle'. Not sure if that's all there is to it, but I'm pretty sure that went down badly with PB (whose job was on the line at the time)

It isn't true or it isn't a huge story?

Sorry Beefy, I didn't make myself clear.

AB has been a wonderful servant to the club but I feel this season has been one too much for him.
Asking him to 'look after' the youngsters may not be ideal in many people's eyes but having reached the twilight of his first team place, I suspect he and PB have found a way of using his talents to keep him involved with the team. I suspect (and hope) this is his first step into coaching/management and I, for one, would love it if he eventually managed OUR team in the top league of this country and beyond.
He is a legend of this club, up with Bill Garner, Billy Best, Stan Collymore and Freddy Eastwood and I would think he is in the best position to further his career whilst maintaining a link with our club. (Unless I'm talking bollocks, I'm sure someone will let me known soon.)

So no, it's not a huge story.

Supposition, your honour!

Is that the type of thing that Chris is likely to confirm if wrong but go strangely silent on if true?
Has he responded to you/others when he's been asked this sort of question about players before?

I reckon we will know Barratt's future come January. It's obvious that Ferdinand and Thompson are now first choice as CBs and Sokolik is there as back up. As to the reasons why he is no longer first choice, we will probably never know for sure, a bit like the Timlin episode that everyone 'knew about'. We all have our own memories of the bloke, and my most recent one has to be his Wembley penalty in the play-off. If we don't see him again in FL1 then, thanks for everything Adam, and very good luck for the future.

It's not just Sokolik making the bench ahead of him though, youth team cente back Matsuzaka (or however you spell it) was on the bench last night. Barrett clearly isn't good enough to start anymore and Sokolik may be a better option on the bench but a youth team centre back definitely is not and is not in the interests of the team at all, it's just an insult to a club legend. It's not even as though he was awful at the start of the season to deserve this treatment, in some of the games where we were heavily beaten he was still the best defender, Rochdale away is an example. So to suggest that by having Barrett in the team we'd be conceding loads of goals and be at the bottom is bollocks. Our turnaround in form is more to do with a change in tactics and the return of key players from injury rather than not having Barrett.

Something is clearly not right, but one thing confuses me.

If, supposedly, AB and PB have fallen out, why did AB play at Stevenage?

Because in all likelyhood there has not been a big falling out. There are a few on here and on the facebook group who like to give the impression they know more than anyone else but as soon as you call them out they hide behind the excuse of "i can't reveal my scource i will be deemed untrustworthy and won't be given information in future" or in other words i am chatting ****!

My gut feeling on all this is that there was some sort of "discussion" and it revolved around Anton and AB not being able to play together, so PB said that Anton would always get first nod, with AB suggesting that if that's the case, there's no point in him being on the bench.

The real test is if Anton got injured. I can't see Thompson and Sokolik being the ideal pairing.
